This man was born with only one arm but has become the world's only one-handed professional pianist.
Nicholas McCarthy, 24, from Tadworth, Surrey, was told at his first audition for a music school that he should stop trying to learn because he was wasting his time.
But Nicholas has had the last laugh - after becoming the first and only known one-handed pianist to graduate from the Royal College of Music and now tours the world performing.
The inspirational man has made it his aim to show people in a similar position that no matter what life throws at you, with enough dedication and spirit they can beat their odds and follow their dreams.

He's not the only one ever. Paul Wittgenstein (the brother of the philosopher Ludwig) had been an accomplished pianist before he lost his arm in WWI and subsequently developed a new career, performing the pieces he rearranged and also the pieces he commissioned from some of the most famous composers of his day (luckily for him, the Wittgensteins were very wealthy). So there is a large oeuvre of piano works waiting for him to perform and I'm sure he's quite aware of it. Good luck to him!

Yeah I got electrocuted and lost my left side to the four arm. Originally played Guitar and bass a little piano. All self taught. But when I lost it I started playing piano a lot more. And I’ve become an exceptional drummer. But you can definitely do it. I’ll write something on the right side, put it on KZbin then you listen to it and put something to the left side, put it together and it’s like two minds playing one sound 😱🤣🤙 that would shut down the internet 🤣🤙

I will love to learn how to play as well with 1 arm. I had got into a bad wreck, while the surburon was rolling...my arm hit the window ...this had happened so fast. Faster then in eye could blink. I went in shock because as that was happening the surburon rolled right on my arm just ripped right off. Long story short... I'm still here for a reason . only God knows.huhhh While still here ,I want to see what I can do or learn how to do with just 1 arm. Playing the piano would be a blessing & something I acknowledged from you sir!!! Inbox me if you would like an we go from there.💯💯💯🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊

I lost the use of my entire left-side, due to the rupture of a huge racquetball-sized Arteriovenous Malformation, but was able to overcome most of my physical and intellectual deficits in karate, piano-playing, teaching and coaching kids, with what's remaining of my brain, my right hand, and my right leg. Most recently, I left my position as a one-handed musical memory therapist who plays piano with only my right hand.

@danninja & @patricia. hiya peeps. hope you're all doing well. first of all, if you're brand new to piano, dont be discouraged to learn to read "sheet music" (once you've gotten used to the basics of piano : aka what *"notes"* mean) as opposed to watching someone play the song you'd like online (either live, or by a form called "midi"). sheet music will help you immensely, since it'll basically be like reading a book once you understand the "language" of the sheet music. if you're comfortable with that, you may want to start learning *"scales"* , as that seems to be what this guy uses the most. scales are basically the fast travelling parts typically used by the left hand during playing (to add bass, depth, and speed to the songs) (pretty common for right hands to play them too, actually. maybe even more common ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) once you get used to the scales (basically repeating patterns of notes played upwards, then downwards), you can learn *"arpeggios"* , which are like scales, but with gaps between each following note (compared to scales which, for the most part, has notes all adjacent to each other) after that, uhhhh, maybe give some of your favourite songs a go. songs typically use *"chords"* , which are just the notes of the scale that fit best with each other (like a C major would be the notes : C E G, because those sound the nicest together as opposed to something like C D A). you can use what you've learnt from scales and arpeggios to spice up the song, while trying to add some "melody", (the main voice of the song). sorry if i couldnt provide any new info/didnt help. not used to teaching what i know. hope y'all do well and/or are doing well. take care 👍
