Apparently, before this, Wolverine was meant to be around the same age as Scott, Jean, and the others ie late teens/young adult. However, the artist didn’t get the memo, and he was drawn looking older when he unmasked, and they stick with it, eventually giving him the long lived backstory.

One of my favorite X-men comics of all. Considering how there were rumors that the MCU is trying to find a more diverse cast for the X-men, I hope they take some inspirations from this comics, specially the x-men battle against Krakoa, who in my opinion is one of the characters that, much like Mr Sinister, has a lot of potential that could be explored in a movie or series, specially now that Krakoa is very important in the Jonathan Hickman's run.

People always talk about God Loves Man Kills and the Dark Phoenix saga, but Giant Size Xmen was better. Xavier absolutely is a monster, always has been. Jean and Erik were the only ones to ever notice; eventually, Scott figured it out as well. This is also timely since Sinister with the mutant gene is suspected to have the cells of Thunderbird, who if you follow Xmen over the years, they imply that his powers would have developed to make him a tank. His younger brother has the same power set; People always talk about God Loves Man Kills and the Dark Phoenix saga, but Giant Size Xmen was better. Xavier absolutely is a monster, always has been. He's a monster for good reason, his mind is strong enough that it made contact with a consciousness across the galaxy, shit like that messes you up or so I've heard lol. Not only that but his powers fully manifest while he was in a warzone and the thoughts, feelings and last moments of thousands of men folded in on him at once and he had to rework his mind to adjust. I've always felt that Charles has this impenetrable layer of disassociation about him.

​@Shootblade@@thoarnejones6805 The Retcon in 616 was that Xavier needed and wanted a Killer for the Team and knew of Wolverines abilities he coaxes him to join the X-Men after explaining that he could help him with his missing memories and that with the X-Men they would be straight with him. While he does help in that sense it was no longer about helping Wolverine but ensuring the team had a member who could get the job done when it required to not be nice. In that sense Xavier is no better than Sinister Weapon X or Alpha Flight since they all used Wolverine because of what he could do not that any of them actually cared about him. Though I think this changes when Xavier actually sees what Wolverine was put through and has moments of regret for being untruthful. Specially in stories like Fatal Attractions or The Twelve.

But @Shootblade is correct Department H does send Wolverine as a covert mission to befriend and then assassinate Xavier because they feared him being to powerful. The moment they are alone Chuck ends up reading Wolverines mind and then taking a chunk of memories as well. When House of M happens and Wolverine gains certain memories back not just the conditioned falsified ones he no longer cares of what Xavier did and why but that he is a better person because of it even if it had all been shady from the get go.
