Fantastic interview! Good job! It was new and interesting when he talked about the efficiency of the different variants. UNDER a 100whr/mile in the 250mi variant? The aerodynamics are sooooo efficient and weight soooo low, I’ve always suspected this was the case. In a earlier video by Aptera you could clearly see the metric on center screen of an Alpha saying : 94whr/mile. The alphas have a very smallish battery, and the motors use 20% more energy compared to the ones now that are redesigned specifically for Aptera, so I would Expect the 250 mi variant to achieve in the low to mid 90s , the 400mi at 100 and the other variants to be slightly above 100. It was also interesting to note that the usable capacity of the 400mile variants battery pack keeps going up as they finalize the battery pack and find they can pack more and more energy denisity into the same space. At the ambassador factory tour last September he said the usable pack capacity of the 400mi variant was 41KWHR then later I heard 42 and now 45,, this is GREAT news since he’s saying he’s VERY confident they can hit 100whr/mile this implies a possible 450mi range for launch edition right?? For approximately $34,000, this is mind blowing and totally blows the doors off of ANYTHING in that very affordable price range. It was also interesting to hear him talk about how because of battery cells might make packs come out to slightly different sizes, he blew my mind talking about 40-50whr/miles , this is solar racer territory. It’s the virtuous efficiency cycle again, making it more efficient means less battery needed which means more efficiency lower weight, this is the direction that ALL EVs need to be going but aren’t. I could envision maybe a special efficiency tweaked Aptera with FWD, controllers and motors tweaked for even more efficiency a 18kwhr battery pack. If this efficiency tweaked Aptera could hit say 80KWHR/mile this would imply a possible 225mi range from a very very small ( read that inexpensive) battery pack, and because of its light weight I should it expect it wouldn’t be a slouch in the acceleration department. I’d take a 6.5sec 0-60time for that kind of efficiency, wouldn’t you?? That’s still faster than 90% of cars on the road. Now just imagine this efficient Aptera only costing $20,000?? Also because of this efficient Aptera achieving 80whrs/mile would have greater solar charge range too. Now you’d get up to 50mi of solar range/day!! Just think of that! That’s huge! People REALLY aren’t fully understanding what the virtuous efficiency cycle means. Look at solar racers , because of their ultra low weight , and ultra low Cd they’re able to achieve steady state speeds of a little over 50mi Les per hour from their 1000watt panels ALONE. Chris is right to get frustrated when he talks about just HOW big a difference hyper Efficent aerodynamics and low weight make. I think it’s entirely possible for my hypothetical FWD 18kwhr Tweaked motor Aptera to exist and sell for $20,000. Just think 225mi range, 50mi day solar range,many would be interested. Keep up with the fantastic Aptera content. PS edit : when you look at the specs of lightyear0 it doesn’t come anywhere NEAR Aptera! 180whr/mile while quite good compared to a Tesla M3 , isn’t even remotely near Aptera’s 100whr/mile figure ( Aptera is at least minimum 60-80% better), and LIGHTYEARS 0-60 time of 10secs less than 1/2 Thea speed of Aptera launch edition or about the same as my Prius! AND it cost $250,000??!! Noooooo!! Aptera is in its own VERY special category that NO other car can even remotely compete in. People just aren’t getting that. It needs to be shouted from the highest rooftops,, Maybe YOU can do that ANDREW?? Respectfully yours Jerry & Helen M. Ambassadors, investors, reservation holders and soon to be accelerator launch edition owners, were hoping to be in the top 200 of accelerator vehicles, hopefully we won’t have to add another $10,000 to get there, currently we’re #52

Good interview… and I am planning to buy an electric vehicle… I'm still not sure if it should be an Aptera. 🤔 Videos like this are why I'm still considering it. Chris and Drew both genuinely seem to care about what they're doing. There's technology that comes along that changes things. This looks like one of those things. There are many questions though… - Does that third-wheel make the ride too bouncy? - When are the 2000 investors supposed to get their autos? - Is it better to be an early adopter or just wait? - Will Aptera ever qualify for the electric vehicle tax credit? - What if Aptera goes bankrupt? - What about a child seat? (A non-starter for new parents?) - If it's so rare, would an Aptera be more prone to theft or too much attention? There are a lot of unknowns. But in general, it always did seem strange to be driving to work with the equivalent of an empty couch along for the ride. It's very inefficient and expensive. Also, I think Chris shouldn't downplay the zombie apocalypse aspects of the vehicle. Maybe go on Canadian Prepper next. 😏 …and an Aptera looks like it would be an awesome Transformer. Has Chris considered a deal with Hasbro? HA HA! Perhaps that's a question for a follow-up interview. 😄
@Airman749 Жыл бұрын
Addressing some of your questions : At the St. Moritz conference in early feb Chris stated its possible the first production vehicles might start rolling off assembly line by End of year, remember they’ve Already started cutting dies for the molds, he also stated that most delays for car startups are waiting for government approval on a 4wheel vehicle, they don’t have that kind of delay, just remember how long it takes the government to do ANYTHING. As for the ride, everyone who’s ridden in Gamma with its fabulously rousch designed suspension has said it’s VERY smooth and feels as good or better than any small 4wheel car. And YES you WILL get ALOT of stares and questions driving this around, probably as much or more than if you were driving around a $300,000 super car. These first 2000 accelerator cars will very likely become collectors editions later. My wife asked me at what price I’d consider SELLING my accelerator launch edition Aptera for above what I paid, I said I don’t know, she said : would you sell it for double what you paid?? I said definitely not!! Cause I’d have to wait toooooo long for another one! Don’t fear such an incredibly cool car just because it breaks EVERY conceivable notion of what a car or vehicle can BE. Remember : it’s NOT a 2seater like a Miata, it’s got a hatchback with a HUGE cavernous rear cargo area, for 1-2 people this is an eminently practical useable car, that is extraordinarily cheap to own and operate, compared to a large bulky overbloated SUV, this vehicle should save enough money to pay for itself in 5-6 years, then it costs NOTHING after that! Let that sink in for a moment! PS edit: I CAN tell you from personal experience sitting in and riding in one, it’s MUCH bigger than it looks in videos and pictures, it’s quite roomy and comfortable for two people, guys as tall as 6 8 ( Jack from fully charged) have confirmed this.

@@Airman749 So, reserve a 2nd Launch Edition (L.E.) that's not in the Accelerator Program. Chris said ~ 20% of reservation holders are switching to a L.E. configuration, so 20% of 41,000 gives you the 8,200th build. That's not too bad a wait for a new Aptera if they are ramped to build 10,000 Apterae in their 1st year of production. So you could sell your winner winner chicken dinner top 2,000 build Accelerator L.E. for a nice profit and get a new one ~ 7 months later? Actually you should use your earlier reservation slot for this 2nd L.E. vehicle, and let your new reservation count for your Accelerator program vehicle. Your place in the Accelerator Program queue is only dependent on the amt of money you have invested, not on your reservation date, unless you are head to head with someone who invested the exact same amt of money as you did. Like, buy that 1,001st share if you are in that chunk of more than 60 $10,500 investors, no? But your place in the more general L.E. queue, for 'non investors, or less than $10,000 after Jan 27th investors, or Accelerator investors who do not 'win' the top 2,000' is based solely on the date you made your reservation. Your 7 month wait for that 2nd L.E. replacement Aptera could now be significantly less than '~ 7 months' if you have reserved an Aptera early-ish. I think this small time gap fact might be one reason why the Accelerator buy-in is only gonna hit 500 people, or 25% this coming week. The time gap between receiving a 'top 2,000th' L.E. and a no investment needed L.E. is just not that great, especially if you have a reservation slotted early-ish in the 41,000 reservation queue. Another reason the Accelerator program might be slow to reach 2,000 participants is the lack of any personal incentive to invest early in its 2 month run of Jan 27th to March 26th. For the good of Aptera you join early to drive up the competition to 'win' one those first 2,000 L.E. Aptera's. That's why I finally pulled the trigger back in February and vested in. For the good of an individual investor, though, who desires to minimize the amount they need to invest in the program to hit their desired place in the first 2,000 coveted vehicles rolling off the line, you hold off investing until late in the game. That way you don't drive up the competition, and thus the amt you need to invest to win one of the first L.E. vehicles. Some rudimentary game theory optimization may be holding back investors from showing their hand. Hopefully this is what’s playing out, and the Accelerator program exceeds 2,000 investors in its last 3 weeks.

Glad I subscribed. The discussion about the generational value of the batteries tells me these vehicles will have an extraordinarily long life. The body in carbon will be exceptionally durable as are the motors. Any idea of how that might impact lease rates? I also wonder how easy these will be to renew/remanufacture and update everything from the seats and vehicle control hardware/software to add or subtract sensors, etc. I could see a future where at the end of ten years you take your Aptera back to the factory where they totally disassemble it to the BinC and then rebuild it with remanufactured parts renewed to current specs making it figuratively good as new. No, better as you can retrofit with improvements from more powerful motors to an active suspension system. Or how about remanufacturing them into robo taxis. When the going could be essentially free it encourages movement. I think that's why you'll see a lot of old folks in the line to get an early one.

Btw, I managed to consistently best the mileage estimator that was very low, due to sub-freezing temperatures, from keeping the battery warm by flooring & coasting between 125(135)/85(90) mph on back road straights. Also kept the pre-conditioner off ahead of Supercharges stops, converting that wasted heat to time savings! Seemed to work best slowly inching up to speed, then just coasting, completely, letting the regen do most of the heating. Just keeping it floored once reaching max speeds (136-140) really kills range. Thx

That’s easy to modify on their website. OR ... you could start with a Launch Edition, or even a top 2,000 Accelerator Launch Edition, then trade it in when that 1000 mile Aptera finally gets built. If you had the money to invest to join the Accelerator program, then you could keep your current 1000 mile Aptera's place in line, since 'place in line' isn't a factor for one of those. Your $10,000 investment in the company also waives your reservation fee and gets you 5% off. Even if you didn’t ‘win’ one of their top 2000, the worst you would fall back to is the 8 or 9 thousandth place in their ‘Launch Edition’ queue if you join in now. Still within their 1st year of production. And you still get to drive a pretty sweet Aptera configuration around while you wait for your dream build. Save your current place in line for that 1000 mile ride. They plan on doing that IPO next year so you could recover that investment $ then, if you didn't want to be a savvy stock market player.

I believe, though, they will have a clear glass, or clear ? option down the road, at least to sell as a replacement part. The 4 battery size options are not going away. Every Aptera will have one. Some of us would love to have a couple extra solar rear hatches we layer on when going picnicking, camping, etc, that we could then pull off at a sunny site to further fill our Aptera battery for travel or other load uses. Money talks……My original question suggests Aptera has the solar charging advantage but still needs to beat Tesla to the market if they are to have any chance of keeping most of their 47k orders.
@jonj9149 Жыл бұрын
@@Dichiara1rg I'm with Tailosive on this one. Different market. I don't see Aptera's preorders at meaningful risk if Tesla pulls through on the cheap EV. The Chevy Bolt EUV at a similar price is already available, but Aptera preorder holders exist and the count continues to climb despite this option. A cheap Tesla horse in this pony show might draw in some lower income 'must have a Tesla' fanboys away from the Aptera, but this should be a rather small percentage of the Aptera preorder holders.

I believe it’s 10” wider than a Plaid. That’s 5” more on either side and it concerns me too.

Formula One levels of safety. Those drivers walk away from horrific crashes. Aptera is confident the vehicles safety capabilities will prove "irrefutable".

@@billman5379 The comparison I was thinking of was the Honda CRX. That thing was very popular. I believe that it was not much more than 50k units per year at the peak. It was the Aptera of its day, only cheaper.

Old couples keep getting older, but biologically younger with senolytics, young couples keep having fewer kids because of plummeting sperm counts and endocrine disruptors are causing the heterosexual percentage of the population to plummet with each new generation. The back seat is quickly becoming obsolete and Aptera is at the forefront of this megatrend. This surely isn't purposeful; more like convergent evolution. Perhaps I'm being a little flippant, but I'm certainly not joking.

But, the car is ugly. You can get a solar powered electric car from China that goes upmto 60 mph for under $10,000 and it actually looks like a normal car. This is what happens when people don't know who they are. I can tell by looking at this guy that he is Apache. People are denying their Native American ancestry which is the ancestry of the future.
