Hindu god of war❤️Gana deviyo- ganesha or pillyar. Lord Buddha was born as Hindu, and as I see Hinduism is like an ocean, and various tributaries came out of it. It is/was almost impossible to detach Hinduism from other religions which evolved out of Hinduism.💚Simply even Buddhism has Hindu roots. ❤️The Nayaks of Kandy were Hindus of Telugu origin, spoke Tamil or Telugu, and used both Tamil and Sinhala as their court languages. Sri Vijaya Rajasinha showed early signs of what was to come. Despite being a Hindu, he encouraged participation in and practicing both Hinduism and Buddhism. ❤️. 💚. Coming from the line of Vijayanagar kings of South India and henceforth filling the Sinhala throne. 🧡They were of Telugu origins, one of the reasons for a large set of Telugu population in Western parts of Tamil Nadu.❤️It’s really simple. In Sri Lanka, been a Sinhala Buddhist nation, it’s been one of the duties of the ruler to protect and serve Theravada Buddhism while preserving relegious harmony and freedom of others. Therefore the head of the state usually is and has been a Theravada Buddhist and for Nayaks to assume the role of the King and prevail, it was paramount to be a Theravada Buddhist. That’s the difference between a nation and an ethnic group. A nation is more concerned of the culture whereas ethnic groups are more keen on the origin and the blood line.Well the Nayaks came from Madurai and were considered Tamils but some sources trace their origins to a Telugu linguistic base and caste (Kamma caste). Yes they had to convert to Buddhism to gain kingship of Sri Lanka. Any legitimate king according to Sinhala kingship tradition should be a Buddhist it’s a mandatory prerequisite and had been the custom since King Nisshanka malla of Polonaruwa at least. Being a Buddhist, having the custody of the sacred tooth relic were prerequistes for being king and well as he was considered as the guardian of the Buddhist faith in the land. The other reason is that it was almost impossible for anyone to stay in power for long without the patronage of the Buddhist temple and the clergy. Sinhalese are not originally South Indians like Tamils & Malayalees. They are originally from North Eastern India - Bengal and thus not South Indians like Malayalees & Tamils. And using masks during traditional dances (folk dances) is probably a Bengali (Vangan) habit. Bengalis of North Eastern India also use masks during their traditional "Chhau" dance. Chhau Dance - West Bengal, Orissa & Jharkhand. According to mahavama great chronicles of srilankan history ancestors of sinhalese were originally came from vanga desha.(modern day Bengal and Odisha area). Further ,genetic admixture of sinhalese people according to most recent studies is 72% bengali , 16% south indian tamil and 12% gujarati . Sinhalese doesn't looking like Indian Bengalis or Bangladeshi Bengalis.They are looking similar to South Indian population.(More accurately South Indian Tamils).Sinhalese ,Some of the Sri Lankan dishes have striking resemblance to Kerala cuisine, which could be due to the similar geographic and agricultural features with Kerala. Between 1517 and 1638, the island was under Portuguese rule. Many words in Sinhalese sound like Portuguese words and some food. like short eats are reminiscent of that time. The Portuguese Kandyan King asked the Dutch for help at the beginning of the 1600s. The Dutch-Portuguese war raged for years, ending in a Dutch victory and subsequent take over of part of the island. The Kandyan King kept his place in Kandy. The descendants of the Dutch settlers are called Burghers and are still a considerable group in Sri Lanka !!! Their ancestors are believed to have come from northern India, traditionally in the 5th century BCE. Their language belongs to the Indo-European family. Sinhalese surnames often originate from Sanskrit. However, as a consequence of the Portuguese invasion of Sri Lanka, during the 16th and 17th centuries, many Portuguese language surnames were adopted among the Sinhalese people.
