Season 4 is my favourite season because of Luca. I agree with some comments that sometimes he was portrayed too stereotypically but what do I know about Italian mafia apart from Godfather😅 I think Adrien played Luca well regardless and can totally see why he didn't want his character to be killed so soon as apparently he had a blast filming PB. For anyone interested a qt of rum cost roughly $7 in New York in 1929. There are 53 gallons in a barrel and 4 qt per gallon. $7 in 1929 is roughly $129 usd in 2024. So for 200 barrels you’re talking $27,265 a barrel or $5,453,050 a month usd in 2024. Assuming he takes about 20 percent of the total income that’s $1,090,610 a month.

With Solomons you can never know if he is trying to fuck with you or if he's just genuinely being weird/insane. Here he very well could've planned to keep his eyes shut specifically for the arrival of the Italians to showcase how little they mean to him and to have control of the flow of the conversation or it might've all been a coincidence and well, he has to finish the "session" now, doesn't he? Surely they're not bothered by it, it's just his eyes that are closed, he is still very much present.

At 2:30 it becomes obvious that Solomons has no intention of playing ball with Luca and his goons. From that point forward, it's hard to understand why Luca continues to negotiate. Luca not only continues to entertain Solomons and endure his insults, but also reveals his plan for how he intends to kill Tommy and his family. Once it was clear Solomons didn't want to play ball, they should have killed him so he couldn't alert Tommy to what they intended to do. Solomons is an awesome character, and I'm not saying that's what I would want to happen. But realistically, Solomons should have died here.

I like Solomons. I'm not saying that's what I would prefer to happen. But that would be more realistic. And the mob isn't that stupid either. There are also crazy people who would just kill him in principle for the things he said. Criminals don't behave like normal people. This could have, and arguably should have, been Solomons' last day. Based on the premise of this interaction.

I dont know if its the toothpick but Adrian Brody seems to be overacting/ a caricature vs Tom Hardy or Cillian Murphys more natural styles even when they are "chewing the scenery" with a great mixture of power and restraint. He said Tommy Shelby was from an oppressed minority = Irish gypsy/ Romany . So an Irishman acts a brummie of Irish parentage.

Brody as an Italian gangster was a great casting mistake. Thank God Hardy was there to save the day. All the Changretta scenes were such cringe moments. Wrong casting, exaggerated body language, boring Hollywood Italian mob stereotype, over the top reactions, constant swearing (real life gangster rarely swear by the way) .....

I think there are few people that know, or certainly talk about....that Italy was Germany's closest ally. Hitler in fact looked up to Mussolini and the Nazi salute comes from the Italian fascists. Furthermore, Italy persecuted Jews and later, at Hitlers request, was complicit in the holocaust by sending a small number of Jews to Auschwitz. Alfie knows what's up in this time period.

I wonder what Alfie was like before the war 🤔 like just how much of his batshit crazy Alfie-ness came as a result of being in that hell scape of a meat grinder or was he always just that level of, well, Alfie?

can someone help me out here please. every time i watch this seen i cannot tell if im supposed to take the "he knows who we represent?" as a shock that Alfie might actually know who they work for or if its supposed to be a sarcastic "what an idiot" because he doesn't know who he works for if you get what i mean

Its because Alfie shows them so little respect that Luca is asking the question. He'll be used to people doing exactly what he wants, without question, down to him being part of the Spinietta mafia family but obviously Alfie is not behaving like that which is confusing Luca

both changretta and alfie have a very good understanding of who eachother is, the power they hold, and their affiliations. Changretta is irratated because of alfie's personality and attitude towards him to which his associate responds that that's just the way he is (towards everyone).

Terrible season. The mafia were a total joke, pure stereotype. Ask any man on the street to do an impersonation and this character is exactly what they would do, even down to the outfit and match chewing. Tom Hardy was brilliants as Alfie.
