Japanese voices are good and a match to most if not all characters, but for some reason english just fits so well like it’s almost preferable for me. Maybe it’s because it take place in Victorian type era or that the voice actors really hit the nail.

i always feel like the japanese versions (mostly the male ones) feel too young. And they in my opinion lack something in how they sound and the characters look and act. Sometimes they just dont feel like you're listening to the character but rather to a person reading a script. For example, the english VAs make their voice more raspy, quiet and kind of sad when a character is ill and sometimes even cough and things like that. But with the japanese ones they just sound..normal.

Fromsoft has such an amazing direction on how they produce their games. Usually japanese produced games always have better JP VA's but their western influenced games have a more nuanced voices in english; but in sekiro it's the opposite with amazing JP voices because it's main influence is japanese culture.

8:50 Lady Maria of the astral clocktower played by Sadri Hayami. 8:59 Evetta Muradasilova. So lady Maria is pretty much just the doll but as a Huntress Both in appearance and in voice actresses.
@Feyvolta2 жыл бұрын
There's actually a lore reason for this: The Doll is based on a student which Gehrman held affections to, Lady Maria. After Maria's disappearance, Gehrman sought to obsessively replicate her in the form of the Doll. The Doll herself has exactly the same size and appearance as Maria, as well as the same voice. She speaks only when you possess at least one point of insight which is possible only owing to the fact that insight is akin to madness in the game - the more eldritch truth (insight) you gain, the more things you see and hear. That is at least until Rom is killed and you can suddenly see the Amygdala around Yharnam without the aid of insight.

@adsdfdfsdldsllsdlslalalalalddaaa No, it’s literally just that the voice doesn’t fit the setting lmao. Get the best voice actor possible to do it in Japanese, it won’t sound right. It’s the same for english voice actors saying dialogue that’s supposed to exist in a traditional Japanese setting.
@JohnSmith-oc6gm2 жыл бұрын
@adsdfdfsdldsllsdlslalalalalddaaa Why is it poor voice acting? Because you don’t like it?
@blazaybla222 жыл бұрын
@adsdfdfsdldsllsdlslalalalalddaaa I know I’m gonna make people mad but I have to say as a whole I find that Japanese voice actors tend to not bring a lot of subtlety and nuance and measuredness to their characters. They’re great at screaming and crying and other exaggerated tones (or whatever that voice is that the guy does for the Werewolf, for some reason I hear that cadence a lot with Japanese VAs and it freaks me out a little) and they can be calm but there’s not a lot in between imo. I think of it sort of similar to why I think British actors tend to be better than American actors, that there’s way more of a theater tradition there meaning the bar for good acting is a lot higher and the profession of acting is more artistic than commercialized as it is here in the US. (Not to say that I think Jason Statham is a better actor than James Gandolfini for example, I just mean on average.) That’s the same reason that I think (in my opinion) Korean actors tend to be better than Japanese actors, there’s that tradition of Pansori and Korean actors were very quick to give great performances of Shakespeare the moment Korea opened its society to the West in the late 1800s. Again I’m speaking in super broad generalizations but while the direction and cinematography in Japanese cinema is generally incredible (imo it’s the most visually creative country in the world) the performances in my opinion are (on average) not enough to carry the movie on their own.

Maria’s voice lines in this video are cut content. It’s believed that they were originally meant for a direction in the DLC in which Maria (in an encounter similar to when the player meets Annalise) is an optional boss who attempts to trick the player into believing that the Living Failures was the DLC’s last boss. She would give the player various reward items in the Clocktower and urge them to be on their merry way. Attacking her probably would have triggered the boss fight (or maybe a dialogue option to start it, like Gehrman’s), and Simon would later assassinate her in order to enter the Fishing Hamlet and end the Nightmare himself.
