@@TheTexasBoys I am new to your channel and have to get caught up on all your videos but as I am watching this one I thought I might bother ya for just a moment if I may? I have been praying about finding someone who knows something about generators. My daddy has been gone for quite some time and it is just us girls trying to provide and prep for the troubling times ahead. I could use a little advice. I need to purchase a generator but have no idea which is best. Living in the suburbs makes me leary of getting anything too loud because we have been warned that its a big tip off for thieves. Any advice you could share would be much appreciated. Blessings to you and your family.

@valarkland7558
@valarkland7558 2 жыл бұрын
@@noemibarnes530 Purchase a freezer that is made for extreme temperatures. Type in "Garage ready" and do some research because most freezers are not built to work in extreme temperatures. The funny thing is, years ago, we had several freezers that worked outside in our garage. But the industry has whimped them out. Now most standard freezers will not take this kind of abuse or treatment. There are a few brands that claim they are equipped for this kind of use. But I don't think there is a way to make a regular whimpy run of the mill freezer into something it is not. Hope this helps. Good Luck. I am still trying to decide, if I trust Any of the Freezers for Extreme temperatures even if the are claiming to be Garage Ready. I am not very impressed by Appliances at all right now. The old freezers and refrigerator worked like crazy. But the new ones are designed to quit so we have to purchase every few years. Not only do I not trust...But I don't feel like replacing a freezer full of food, when the stupid freezer quits. 🙃 Best of Luck...

Yes, that’s true! After a month or so my 14.5 cf freezer had its red light turn on indicating that it was starting to warm up. It turns out that there wasn’t enough “breathing room/air flow” as it was pushed up to the wall and the return was pushed up next to a smaller freezer! Once I moved the big freezer it went back to freezing!

Hey Texas family, I'll get to what I wanted to mention in a second. First, I was cracking up with James taking the dryer apart and reassembling it in the new laundry/mud room. I guess it's a good way to clean the thing; dryers do get pretty dirty inside if not attended. :-) What cracked me up was a flashback to some movie whose title I can't recall from back in the 80s where some fraternity was pranking a university administrator by taking his car apart and reassembling it in his office. Yep, that had me chuckling pretty good. Now to a couple thoughts on the freezers. This might be good for you or you may already have completely different plan, but others might get something from the idea. Having some type of generator power backup for the freezers is probably a really good idea and, other than when they are starting up, all five should run fine on a 2.4 or 3kw generator or better. The big ones probably spike at 1500watt startup then drop down to probably under 400watt while running. The smaller ones might be similar at spike and run at 300watt. Let's plan they are 500watt runs for all five, so 2.5kw if all are running at the same time, which doesn't happen all that often probably. So yeah, a 3kw generator or better should be fine without spikes. A 5kw would be overengineering the thing, which is what I tend to generally do; overengineer things. I use sub-panels a lot for different high load or numerous separate circuit run local areas. For example, my laundry room and my office I redid at the same time and instead of running a whole bunch of wires from the main breaker panel I brought two 30amp runs. One went directly to the dryer and the other went to a subpanel so I could have easier runs for the lighting and other outlets in the laundry and office area. I was thinking this might be a good idea for the freezer room. They make bypass switches, manual or automatic, which make sure if you are switching to a generator it makes sure the grid power has to be off before the alternate source can be engaged and the reverse, the alternate has to be turned off before the grid could be restored. This way you could isolate a generator for the freezers, maybe include a run to your main refrigerator too, and it would be simple to just plug in and switch power source. Having a source plug in a box on the outside where you would put a generator would be an easy way to be prepared. Figure even in the summer if the power goes out it's probably a good five or six hours before the freezers are a an immediate concern. As to the start up spikes for each of the freezers they make soft start systems which can be put on ... well, there are several varieties so I'll just simplify that they buffer the start up demand so it doesn't give that spike to the power system. I don't know how much those are for the loads for each of the freezers, but they aren't crazy expensive. With the soft starts if they kicked on together it shouldn't overload/damage the generator. I think you had mentioned you are looking for a solar system. I am supposing a battery system rather than just passive. The soft starts will be more gentle to the inverters coming off the solar/batteries as well. A note on using subpanels though. In the main entry panel for the house you generally, though not always, tie the neutral and the ground together. In Subpanels the neutral and the grounds need to be kept separate. This separation of the neutral and ground in subpanels is vital enough I needed to say it again. Of course, consulting with a licensed electrician is never a bad plan when wiring things like this. Thanks for the chuckle in the episode.

I didn't butcher any steers this summer I sold 9 hoilstien Angus crosses that I did 3 at a time for 4 months on my jersey nurse cow. I got 1.45 for the first two sets. They were 650 pounds a piece at 6 months. The last set I got 1.35 a pound they were a little small 550 to 575 because my jersey makes less milk at the end of lactation. She is 15 months fresh still making 3.5 gallons a day. Getting ready to dry her up she took a bunch of AI tries so I'm milking her longer. Also the first set I did 4 on her she had a heifer so next year I'll have 2 nurse cows. Love your videos

James is an exceptional young man. The knowledge he has just great! I love your laundry room! The freezer organization is very smart way to go that way you know what you have. I hope you have a way to protect your freezers with if there is a power outage! I feel certain you do! I have one question…. Is organ meat health for you dogs and cats?? You always hear, “ Do not feed your animals organ meat, It is dangerous for their health.” Share some of your knowledge please! Ty very much! Loved your video

What advice would you give when transitioning from a plant-based diet to including meat? How long did it take your family to make the adjustment? Thanks!

I have two refrigerator freezers and one chest freezer stocked completely. I also have two generators , a supply of gas to run them and I also have a window air conditioner in case I am without electric during the hot months of Florida I can cool one room to stay comfortable. I am thinking of investing in solar panels that can be placed in the sun and collect the electric into a box generator to run my home. That would be good for a long haul loss of electric

You should have 4 inches on all sides of your freezers for cooling or they will work to hard.Nice job.

Relying on a freezer is not my idea of prepping any way shape or form. Canning is but this is just a horrible idea and food ruins in the freezer too. Freeze drying is better too.

What will ya'll do if new tax passes for beef ? Will it apply to the small farmer? It's still in the talking phase with liberals in Congress but I'm sure they will pursue it.

We have canned and dried food too. We have generators and fuel to maintain the freezers if the power goes out. We are also pursuing a solar option.
