I use a 323 turbo as a daily, black 1989 facelift model, running 15psi of boost, thats about all the turbo can cope with, and the gearbox. :D Ive been around these car for over 20 years, pretty much know the ins and outs of them.

I ran an identical early white 323 turbo - maybe even this very car! I couldn't see the reg number. The cable gearchange was very poor and spoilt it as you'd lose revs whilst changing & have to spool up the turbo again. Terrific engine, as mentioned it went on to power the MX-5.

Ive got a long nose cranked B6 engine from an mx5 in my 323 turbo. Few minor changes to it were needed, like change the sump, the rods and pistons, and some other minor thing. But its in there, covered 10000 miles since i rebuilt it, so all good.

Nice video. I just swapped a 93 Mazda 323 GT-R j-spec engine into my USDM escort wagon. But unfortunately finding an AWD protege over here state side is near impossible but one day I wouldn't mind converting my wagon to AWD. Probably end up just doing a fwd E153 trans swap.

I worked looking after Mazda press cars when they were new and BBR upped boost etc. They made an easy 220+ which doesn't sound like much but they were surprisingly quick and great fun.

Alot have met the same demise in NZ and Australia, fortunately we were blessed with alot more to begin with but those that have them now tend to hang on to them and keep them garaged up. I've had about 7 Bf's, a few gtx's, a gtr, a gtx sedan with gtr running gear, a bf wagon with bfmp drivetrain and even one bfmr I converted to full lancer Evo engine and awd drivetrain. Just recently came into possession of another and although it has had some previously questionable owners, the hackfuckery it has been exposed to over the years is not totally irreversible. Awesome little cars and for every frown they mave give you, they'll provide twice as many smiles

@@DStead2239 Yeah hard out aye, good to hear there still some out there chur..yeah I still got bp8 turbo powered bf wagon as my weekend ride. I got my first bmfr years ago in NZ. They are real fun to hit boost in still love them. But my cheap daily for the last 15 years I drive 74 Datsun B110 4door deluxe way easier to maintain than the DOHCA.
