I'm not even religious and *I* have a problem on principle with anyone using the word of any deity to deceive innocents who just want to have hope in a cruel world. That is not what religion is supposed to be for. My beautiful Grandma went to India many times in her life to bring the word of God to those who had not heard it before. She was in her sixties and seventies, and slept on dirt floors at times while there. Her love of Jesus Christ is a beacon of light to many, including me. That's the love of God. Not mansions and planes and excess. She has since passed on, but I believe she would tell me, to pray for these liars and cheats and let God handle the rest.

I don’t agree with this. I go to a small church and we don’t use our tax exempt status for garbage like this. It’s used to purchase the things we need to have functions that encourages members of the community to come eat, enjoy family friendly fun and hear the word. It’s used to help purchase the things needed to do repairs or purchase equipment thats old and worn out.

My pastor always said he could never be a millionaire cause there are too many people in the world starving and in need. To have a job in ministry, it’s no joke. It’s a real calling that only God appoints you too, not self appointed. If you’re apart of it, you have to BE and STAY spiritually guarded and prepared, and understand that being a leader isn’t about fortune and attention, but guiding souls correctly to God. It’s not easy at all, you must be sure that God has called you to it.

If I’m in church, and the “pastor” is talking about his personal issues of a reporter flying a chopper over his house.... I’m smart enough to know I need to find another church. I’m a Christian who believes that churches taking in over a certain amount of money should be taxed. The little farm church my grandparents attended that had a tiny parsonage on the property? I went to a mega church in Colorado, it is the same story as this one. The preacher would some times talk about being on salary that the church board decided his pay and his real money came from his books. Then it hit the news paper the church board was him, his wife and his two sons, so I quit going. They would always ask or tithes and more donations, even if you couldn't pay your rent still give, as the lived very wealthy lives. Not exactly suffering for Jesus. God bless.

These so-called "preachers of the gospel" use whatever money isn't needed to run their carnival sideshow and invest it in a business deal. Take Kenneth Copland for instance, several years ago my wife and I, who followed Copland at the time, heard that he was going t be in Tulsa Oklahoma for a meeting. We lived fairly close so we went to hear him. He OPENED his meeting not with scripture but with a braggadocious comment that he had 50 natural gas wells. Copeland's headquarters is in the middle of what is known as the Barnett Shale gas field in and around the Fort Worth Texas area. The Barnett was at one time and was at the time Copeland mentioned his 50 as wells the largest natural gas producing field in the US. So the question is, how does a preacher of the gospel that has to ask for money to stay on television come up with the capital to invest in million dollar projects such as a gas well? Well, he takes the overage of incoming donations and invests it in his private projects so that he can brag about being a billionaire. I found it odd that he would have opened his meeting bragging about having 50 gas wells which gets nobody from earth to heaven. The problem with Copeland is that he talks too much, as anybody who has followed him knows. A person that talks too much eventually reveals things about themselves that should otherwise be left unknown. But not Copeland, he cannot help himself when it comes to talking and talking a lot he does. All you have to do is listen intently to these guy's and I mean really listened and you will pick up as to who and what they really are. I did and that is one reason after 40 years of following this mesmerizing heresy preaching I left it behind. The prosperity message has taken on so many forms from what I was first introduced to in the early '70s. There are as many versions of the prosperity message as there are preachers that preach their own version of this message. Ed Young Jr, he is a prosperity preacher that has a megachurch in the Dallas, TX area. Of all the prosperity preachers that there are he has to be the only honest one there is. He said, and I heard him say this, you can KZbin him and hear him say "it's all about the money". And He's right, it's about the money and the strangest thing about it his congregation continues to fork over the cash to support Ed Young's lavish lifestyle. So with that one statement, Ed Young Jr. has to be the most honest of a most dishonest of these prosperity preachers. I'm done.

I walked away from the church because I got so fed up with ego, bragging and boasting! etc. being around idiots that think they know it all and know nothing!! telling people if they don't give money, God don't bless!! and they love that Steven guy? and think Hillsong is so great! and want to be like them?? I use to be the main guitar player of my church!! I was very humble, helpful! knew my stuff! was always on time and played from the heart! several musicians left who I believe were focused on God! and then it ended up going down hill!! I was getting attitude, snubbed!! there was focus on showing off? fashion! even some moments where some would speak on the mic and say 'its not about being a good musician, its about God' which made me feel uncomfortable because I would be the one playing well and others were slacking!! and all over the place!! but those guys ended up running the whole thing! I started getting left out on information? nobody was sending me music? not telling me anything! play stuff without telling me! I had times when I was trying to learn a new tune on a Sunday morning!!! on the spot!! totally thrown!! it was so weird! then gossip about me went around? I spoke to people, nobody would say anything? where they heard rubbish from? and then there was pressure put on me about prayer? your suppose to scream and yell! repeat BA BA BA BA, which is suppose to be tongues? I felt it was all wrong! these modern churches are getting weird! if your treated bad, your suppose to take it!! and if you confront or question stuff, your a negative who needs prayer??

Gibson Weasel I get what you're saying. My wife and I were almost in a similar situation at our former church but borderline of being a show. We decided to start praying and asking the Lord where he wanted us to do life, hear the Word of God being interpreted in truth and faithfulness. So we ended up leaving and we let everyone know. We are now in a church were we are growing and encouraged. Jesus is lifted and holiness is preached. You know there are no perfect churches out there, because we are all imperfect people who need Jesus. But there's options for you as a Christian and if you have the heart to serve the Holy Spirit will lead you where you need to be. We are the body of Christ the church, it's not about a building, that is only a place to fellowship, that's all. I strongly encourage you to have a good support system like friends, family, pastors or leaders in church who are there for you when you have challenges like the one you explained going on. And read your bible so that you will know what is excellent and discern what God's will is for you, his truth, promises....and pray of course, in your relationship with God. Have a blessed day, God is for you.

Thank you for your message :) I use to struggle with thoughts and feelings! it was like there was a quiet voice going off in my head a lot!! I just kept feeling things were not right! I was growing fed up with people focusing on impressing and showing off etc. but it was the preaching that got to me the most, everything was dumbed down if thats the saying? it was like they just tell you what to do, don't think! its like someone would say the story of Noah was to end the world of sin? eh? wait, we are all still here!! sin is still about!! can we look at that story again :) I have also been witness to attitudes behind the scenes, people treating others bad! and if someone gets hurt and wants to confront the issue, they ended up being made to feel they did something wrong? that they were not right with God? but what made me angry is how you get Christians that will treat others like dirt and act all positive around them in the public eye etc. how do you explain it? people that always act positive but are doing wrong to others :)

Gibson Weasel Heya, Gibson 😀 It's unfortunate that you have had that terrible experience. I hope you only walked away from that church building and not God Himself. Praying that you will continuously lean on God. And hey, consider forgiving those people (if you haven't already) in that church for how they treated you . Praying that you'll find a group of people to fellowship with who are genuine followers of Jesus Christ and not those holding the Christian title in a meaningless manner. God Bless You! Hopefully, churches will begin looking within to fix issues and not just outside the building.
