I remember this game coming out and being in awe of the fluid animation at the time. It was almost cartoon quality. They had actual Disney artists work on the animation which was cool.

The music in this game is absolutely legit. The number one way above all that it wrecks the snes version. The music in this game is probably not just the best in any genesis game, but some of the best of the entire era of gaming. To compare the music in Aladdin's SNES version to this, you have to be on literal crack..and then some. Nostalgia or not.
@Bloodreign1 Жыл бұрын
@@KBP120 Not even the best music on the Genesis, you have to look at the Japanese library to find stuff far better sounding than the high pitched stuff like this that the much hated GEMS soundfont pushed out. SNES one, Capcom took it more in a symphonic direction, and honestly the music doesn't make my ears want to bleed like this games music does. Go play something like Verytex, Bad Omen, or a Toaplan game on the Genesis/MD before even calling something like this good (2 of the games I listed has music courtesy of Hitoshi Sakimoto, who also did the music for Gauntlet 4). At least in Japan game designers used custom sound sets for games, and didn't rely on the sound font that gave the Genesis it's reputation for not being the best with sound. I own almost 200 Genesis/MD carts, this one amongst them, trust me, I have games for the console that sound far, far better than the ear rape that US and European game designers attempted to push for this machine.

Hell I've even listed games in my previous post here that outshine the hell out of this games music. Aww sweet childhood nostalgia. The Sega Mega Drive was my first console/computer. I'll always love the Mega Drive there's just something so amazing about it and that period in time (the 16-bit era). I was just going to watch this (again!) and not even leave comment (because I left a comment before already) but I must say, I just realised watching it again this time... completely blown away by how amazing you done on those intensely difficult and notorious bonus levels, not to mention the entire game! Jesus... I've honestly never seen any thing like it! I've had this game since I was 8 but those bonus levels KILL (infact I think they were made to be near inpossible on purpose but you completely NAILED them well done! I honestly don't know how you did it and I'm just in complete awe at the moment and amazed that someone actually completed this game. The end few levels or the last level always got me (when you have to escape the cave and lava on the magic carpet)... Ecco the Dolphin used to be the same lol. All the Disney games were great for the Mega Drive btw. So glad I'm not the only one enjoying the nostalgia :-D

I think between this version and the SNES version, I like the Genesis version a little more than the SNES version for a couple reasons. 1) The Genie shooting Iago while dressed as a referee looking at a stopwatch, that was by far one of the funniest things I've EVER seen in the intro (of sorts) of a game and it always cracked me up seeing it, 2) the fat guard's pants can randomly fall down and he'll look at them in shock while gasping, be it from hitting his throwing knife back at him, camel spit or chucking an apple at him, that also always cracked me up whenever it happened, 3) there were a few more bonus levels as well as bonus levels featuring Aladdin's little Monkey-in-Crime Abu and 4) it has more songs from the movie itself. Does this mean the SNES version is worse? Nope, if anything I see them as equally good though the SNES version has one good thing over the Genesis version and that is that its easier, the carpet escape stage is a bitch to get through but its definitely easier than its Genesis counterpart where if the boulders flying by so much as tap Aladdin's head, its instant death, and the screen is going so fast that you are barely able to react in time to avoid said instant death.

Man, the sound that plays in the bonus stage when Abu breaks the round things sounds identical to the sound my oven makes when my dinner's ready!

I swear I just got hit with a bowling ball of nostalgia... I grew up playing this game back in the 90s and I still play it today on my genesis. Was great to see this game done and it greatly brought back memories.

Mathew Sullivan Ehh.. I know this version... though I haven't directly played on Genesis... there's a port of the genesis game for MS-DOS, that's the version I used to play with. Had bugfixes and such, but introduced new bugs as well and lacked some features here and there...

It's weird, because Shinji Mikami, the director of the SNES game (who later created Resident Evil/Biohazard and Dino Crisis) says he actually likes this one better, but David Perry, the director of this version says he likes the SNES game better.

I knew about Capcom preferring this version, but I didn't know that David Perry preferred Capcom's version. Strange.

Well from my perspective I'm gonna have a guess at why they think this. Both games excel in areas that the other game doesn't. The Megadrive version has the fluid animations with all the charm and humor of the film, the combat and controls are nice and tight and at face value looks the definitive version to get, however it's very repetitive and the levels get boring fast. The SNES version has far better level design, level layouts and acrobatics but you would expect no less from Capcom at that time considering their own IP's followed in the same fashion, but their version has zero on what makes the Megadrive great, it's flat rather than something that pops at you. If both of these games had a fusion of their best elements then this game would truly be a masterpiece. Overall which is best really depends on where your preferences are and for me that's something I'm really struggling at.

It's probably because you aren't going to like your own cooking as much as someone else's. You're too used to your own.

Tbh I always preferred this to the SNES version. It’s not as tight in the level design or gameplay, but the rough edges and weird nonlinear areas gave it a more organic, almost realistic feel. Nintendo made it feel like I was playing a great game based on the movie, but the Genesis had me feeling like I was IN the movie.

Capcom was contracted to handle (most, not all) Disney games for SNES only.

12:09 Is getting that extra 1-up even possible? I remember managing to get the one just after it that spawns after you already fall down, as well as the ones in the collapsing cave near insta-death spots, but never this one.

Yes it is possible. When you jump off those springs, if you hit jump and hold it at the right moment, you'll get a ton of height from the jump. Time it right and you can jump right to the life.

But it plays worse... Its a much harder game. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. But the level design is a small catastrophe in the Genesis version. And the boss battle against Dschafar/Snake, no one can take this serious. The SNES version is miles ahead of it. Is it cool to have a sword? Yes. But that alone, doesn't save the game.

Halsaufschneider Yeah I’ll admit the boss fight with Jafar definitely changed my opinion... in fact most of the boss battles were lame
