I saw the recent Sega16 review of this game and wanted to play it. Whats starts of as a fun normalish platformer soon turns into repetative as the game varies very little throughout. The difficulty level is abit insain at times (my fault for playing on hard?)
I get abit lost in parts as I look for all the Symbols and Nuclear weapon parts. But I do get them all to unlock best ending. And for all the effort, a 2 screen end. Probe did a lousy job porting the snes version it seems, pretty much cutting the ending off.
Im sure they could have found a way to have some kind of Deathglider battle without requiring the snes mode 7. a sideways shoting bit would have been enough. While the game has its good parts, i was dissapointed in the end and would recommend anyone wanting to play it to play on the snes instead if only for a more complete game.
While the music is ok, it doesnt vary much throughout the game and sounds nothing like stargate. -

It COULDN'T be done. This dude threw 5 grenades at him and he switched to alien form, another 15 grenades and he dies. Me and my brother threw grenades at him for HOURS and we didn't even manage to get to the alien. I think the final boss was buggy.

Its interesting to revisit these childhood games because I can now gauge how far I managed to get - I always thought I was so close to the end but it looks like I only made it just over half-way!

I was 11 years old in "95. My English was good for a 11 years old but not so good to make it much easier for me. I am not a native speaker. So as you can imagine, the level with the gliders and switches was a hell. Not to mention the Ra at the end, pure horror but I made it.

When Andy Brock started composing the Sega Genesis version of Stargate, he had the ability to converted MIDI files to the GEMS sound driver. Brock later used the GEMS driver for later Probe-developed games like Judge Dredd, Primal Rage, Batman Forever and Bugs Bunny in Double Trouble.

I remember hiring this from the video shop but I didn't get that far before I had to give it back. Don't remember too much about it either. Love the graphics and atmosphere though, will have to dig this one out again and give it another try.

Quit at the last Anubis fight, just watched this instead. I had 5 lives left but when a boss takes too long I flip the switch. Watching it was just as boring as the fight, shame the dynamics weren’t better.

I'll look up at the Genesis' hex ROM. I think this driver who was progammed by Andy Brock himself (also seen on "Batman Forever", "Primal Rage", "Judge Dredd" and "Bugs Bunny in Double Trouble") has a data structure identical to GEMS (which co-composer Steve Rockett used the regular data structure of GEMS on "Body Count", "The Pagemaster" and "Jelly Boy").

this game was all about being pissed off that you couldn't just shoot what was right in front of you... had to hang, crouch, move back, etc. to kill an enemy. i was too dumb to be pissed off about something like that back then though, just thrilled to have another sega game

I was sooooo proud of beating the last boss just because my big brother couldn't do it and I did. It was glorious XD that game makes me so nostalgic, I couldn't read English when I played it so it felt so mysterious which was cool, but I also got lost and stuck si many fuckin times

I had both versions, and I gotta say, the Genesis version was much better. Sure, the BGM in the SNES sounded more realistic, but in this port, and given the sound hardware the Genesis had, it just sounds so much better, feels better composed, and gives it a different ambiance.
