Not a bad fighting game, though it is a bit stiff.
Character choice doesn't really change the storyline or ending at all, still has the same conclusion. -

yeah, it looked really good, even without the zoom effect of the arcade (never liked it) And the gameplay feels better even than the arcade, arcade/snes had some kind of strange delay in the attacks that i cant stand those versions.

@@pepomega I've never noticed a delay that you speak of, the moves come out as needed, though the arcade's difficulty is it's most offputting crime. Funny how this games sound is absolutely atrocious, while Fatal Fury 2 on the same console sounds much much better than this effort.

Best Art Of Fighting port out of the 16 bit versions in my opinion. Yes it doesn't have the zoom effect like the PC Engine and SNES versions but it showcases the game in higher resolution and has better gameplay in my opinion than the PC Engine and SNES versions. I always dislike the letterbox effect on the PC Engine and SNES versions and the inferior gameplay. The Mega Drive version resolution is closer to the Neo Geo Version even though it doesn't have the zoom effect.
@Bloodreign1

But it's sound is probably one of the worst SNK ports to the console, especially the sound effects, King sounds like a bird when she's defeated. It's like the developers didn't bother using the Cube sound driver, but opted for the GEMS one instead. The sound on this one ruins it for me, though I own it I'll play the PS2 Art of Fighting Anthology, or the SNES version instead, where it plays just as well, the CPU isn't cheap on the SNES version like it is here, and the sound is far far crisper. Not to mention the SNES expands on the games ending with Takuma, Robert, and Takuma's kids.

@@Bloodreign1 Even when playing Art Of Fighting for the Mega Drive, PC Engine & SNES I can still tell that the Mega Drive is the most powerful out the 3. The Mega Drive just plays more fluid because of the faster CPU compared to the PC Engine and SNES CPU. IMO Art Of Fighting for the Mega Drive doesn't sound that bad when hooked up to a stereo system w/good speakers. The game also looks amazing in RGB. I have been playing a lot of games in between the 3 systems and the SNES comes last IMO in strength because a lot of games have worst gameplay and does not play as fluid as the Mega Drive games or even PC Engine games. Art Of Fighting for the SNES is a good game but its plays a bit slower than the Mega Drive port (but to be fair what do we expect from a a CPU that clocks at 3.58 MHz compared to the Mega Drives 7.6 MHz. My favorite game for the SNES is Super Castlevania IV but it still plays slow and stiff compared to Castlevania Bloodlines for the Mega Drive.
@Bloodreign1
@Bloodreign1 2 жыл бұрын
@@Atariatari-ky9te Thing is, this game is not supposed to be fast, in arcades it was more of a plodding fighting game, and like Sam Sho, you had to time your attacks accordingly or the CPU would wreck you, and this version can get a little cheap on the difficulty). The SNES plays at the proper speed. Not sure where you are getting the SNES is 3rd in strength (it is considered the most powerful console of that era, where the SNES lacked in CPU power, it more than made up for in GPU power), when it could do things other systems simply could not do. Sorry, but this game sounds like absolute ass, and plays too fast, making not arcade faithful at all. I'll stick with my SNES and Art of Fighting Anthology PS2 versions, this one gets relegated to if I decide to have a little AoF mini marathon for myself. As for Castlevania, again that series was not meant to be played like a speed demon, not even the X68K Akumajou Dracula plays fast, the pacing is normal for SCV 4 going by the other games (including Rondo). Bloodlines also goes the route of trying to tie Castlevania lore into the Bram Stoker novel, which I felt was totally unneeded. Yes Bloodlines tried to be different, but the whole tie in thing just felt forced, and not necessary in the least bit. Overall, I rate this game ahead of the Genesis World Heroes and Fatal Fury 1 ports, but still falls far behind Fatal Fury 2 on the console. This version is quite simply not good on the ears, and passable on gameplay (again the speed hurts games like this that were not meant for it to begin with, give me more faithful to arcade ports anyday). I'm not sure what Genesis fans obsession with speed is, but it isn't always needed, nor welcomed IMO. As for the PC Engine version, worst SNK game on the system, when World Heroes 2, Fatal Fury 2, and Fatal Fury Special mop the floor with it, FFS even destroys the Sega CD version. The PCE CD version of AoF is simply unplayable due to constant resolution change to substitute for scaling not being in the game.

@Atariatari-ky9te 3 жыл бұрын
@@neobogard The only difference is the parrallax scrolling of the smoke in Mickey's stage. Its not on the Japanese version only on the US version. This is why I like the US version better. But the Mega Drive US or Japanese version plays and looks better than the PC Engine and SNES versions when comparing in RGB. The PC Engine version does play better and look better than the SNES version. SNES version RGB image and slower gameplay hurts it and why Its ranked last for me and thats for a lot of SNES games and I have been playing a lot of SNES games lately and I have to say they are not as fun as playing Mega Drive and PC Engine games. The SNES proccessing speed is just to slow. Especially for a 16 bit system. PC Engine CPU was 8 bit w/ modified 2x 16 bit graphics processors that was 2x faster than the SNES and we all know about the blast processing of the Mega Drive with the Motorola 68000 CPU and YM7101 VDP graphics processor. The 68000 was used in most arcade games at the time. This is why the Mega Drive had the best arcade conversions compared to the PC Engine and especially the SNES.

Oh dear God, the sound.
@SpearM3064
@SpearM3064 5 жыл бұрын
The problem is that the Sega Mega Drive used a Yamaha YM2612 sound chip with six sound channels. It doesn't have a dedicated ADPCM channel for playing back digitized samples. While it *does* allow the sixth channel to act as a basic PCM channel for playing 8-bit samples, it does not provide any timing or buffering of samples, so all frequency control and buffering must be done in software by the CPU. In comparison, the original arcade hardware had seven dedicated ADPCM channels with 12-bit samples at 18.5 kHz or higher. I'm going to make an educated guess and say that for the Sega Mega System, not only did they have to downsample from 12-bit to 8-bit, but because the CPU has to handle the frequency control and buffering, they had to play the samples back at much less than 18.5 kHz to keep the frame rate consistent. TL;DR: I'm surprised the sound effects are as good as they are (relatively speaking). They're still ear rape, though.

People like you youngb1ood claim shit like this, but never give any real reasons why. You troll to troll, fully knowing this version has the absolute worst sound compared to the other versions. Otherwise they play the exact same to each other, stiff as hell, maybe remedied a little bit in the home versions. The SNES version sounds leagues better than what was pulled off on this. You are probably one of those who found the Genesis port of World Heroes to be awesome, and would go meh at Fatal Fury 2 on the same console. To the OP, yeah it's a pretty decent version of the game, though to be honest, the AoF series is known for being pretty stiff, and challenging to beat.

This is the Best Version as far as the 16 Bit ports in my opinion. The Genesis/Mega Drive Version is in Higher Resolution than the PC Engine and SNES ports. Also the Genesis Version has better gameplay in my opinion as well. The Zoom Effect in the PC Engine and SNES version wasn't right anyway. Maybe this is why Sega left it out. @@Bloodreign1 Im not a Sega fanboy. Actually the PC Engine used to be my favorite console of all time but that changed after awhile when I got a Mega Drive and upgraded my PC Engine, Super Famicom & Mega Drive to RGB. The biggest thing I have noticed when comparing games is that Most of the time the Mega Drive has the faster and more fluid gameplay compared to the PC Engine and especially the Super Famicom. Im not knocking the Super Famicom I love that system too but my favorite game for it Super Castlevania IV plays slower and stiffer than Castlevania Bloodlines and this is true for many games compared between the Mega Drive and Super Famicom. Yes the Super Famicom can put more colors on the screen but that doesn't mean that it will look better. I have compared many games and IMO the Super Famicom RGB picture cant compare to the Mega Drive RGB picture. I have changed the Caps and turned up the Sharpness on my TV which helps the Super Famicom RGB picture look clearer but its still behind the Super Sharp clean RGB picture of the Mega Drive. Again I love the SNES/Super Famicom but Im just saying I can tell when playing a lot of games that the CPU is just to slow clocking at 3.58 MHz compared to the Mega Drives 7.6 MHz.
