To be fair, the only one who really had any personality was Suresh as he was always treated as the runt of the litter, which weighed on him quite a bit, and it showed in his dialogue before the final battle. Stupid that out of all of them, he was the one they chose to kill off while all the other characters feel like stale sandwiches

Another way the movie gives the finger to the original: At 3:47, Ilya just looks at Suresh’s body sadly and that’s it. The original established that dying while drifting is an incredibly traumatic event for the survivor. Since they’re synched, they experience the pain and terror of death without actually dying. It was a big deal in the original, but it’s just brushed off here.

To further emphasize your point on just how horrifying of an experience death is during the drift, here are Raleigh's thoughts about Yancy being ripped out of the conn pod. These two passages are directly from the novelization of the film, and are written by the same people who wrote the 2013 movie. ________________________ Dawn was breaking. Raleigh had never been cold like this. He moved Gipsy Danger step by step. He could hear random snatches of incoming comm traffic, morning news radio out of Anchorage, amplified sounds of surf and wind from the shore just ahead. Another step. Yancy was gone. He could not feel Yancy. Gipsy Danger stepped onto dry land. Someone somewhere was shouting for recovery teams. Closer by he heard voices, too; chatter over Saltchuck’s radio. The boat had survived. Gipsy Danger stumbled on the shoreline. Raleigh bent, and Gipsy Danger bent, within sight of the Anchorage skyline. He saw two figures, an old man and a boy, gaping at his approach. Sensors picked up the beep of a metal detector. Raleigh had nothing left. He couldn’t feel his arm because it had been cut off. No, that was Gipsy Danger’s arm. The Jaeger’s joints squealed and began to freeze up from loss of lubricant through the holes Knifehead had torn in it. Its liquid-circuit neural architecture was misfiring like crazy. Raleigh disengaged from the motion rig and blacked out for a moment. When he knew where he was again, he was standing on the sand and could hear the sound of approaching helicopters. He looked up. How had he gotten out onto the beach? Climbed out. He realized that he’d climbed out through the shattered cranial viewport, climbed out the same hole Yancy had disappeared through. Cold stung his skin, blood was slick under his suit. The old man with his metal detector caught Raleigh as he started to fall and shouted something at the boy, who ran away down the beach. Raleigh stared up into the sky. There was blood in Raleigh’s eyes and a hole the shape of his brother in his soul. “Yancy?” he said. His drivesuit was shredded. It was cold. The blood in his eyes felt cold. He blacked out again. **After being given condolences about Yancy's death by Herc Hansen** Raleigh nodded. He felt awkward and embarrassed, the way he always did when people offered sincere sympathy about Yancy. What were you supposed to say? Thanks? Yeah, it sucks? The main problem i saw on this movie were the perspectives and weight sensation, the first movie did that pretty well, most of the time you had first person perspectives, like when you can see below Gipsy in the first movie, and every blow was so heavy that the camera would shake every time, and the sound design helped in shaping and giving the viewer that sensation of heavyness, here in uprising the too far away perspectives made the jaegers look like you were playing with toys, they were tall, even in the concept art, but not in all the camera shots, only a few close up shots can be seen through the movie, and the movements of the jaegers lack the feeling of heavyness, that's why i always felt that whey weren't doing enough damage to the Kaiju, when the movie shows the Kaijus feeling pain after a punch or sword cut.

The others Jaegers received tragically little screen time, IMO. They were one hit wonders, getting brushed aside for a Jaeger that already had one movie and most of the screen time here

JK Stuffs46 no we aren’t forgetting anything. While Danger may have sprinted in the first movie it was much slower and much heavier than this movie. The Jaegers weren’t running up the Kaijus backs and doing back flips off of them or willingly jumping through buildings.....this movie just treats the Jaegers like Power Rangers Robots......the reason people like the Jaegers in the first movie so much is because you feel the weight in everything they do. You feel it when they walk, run or fight.......what people dont like it removing that from this movie and replacing it with Power Ranger Robots

Oh my god, I just now realized what the point of the mega kaiju standing in front of Newton was; In the first movie, Newt said he always wanted to see a kaiju up close. So, the precursors, as a thank you to Newton decided to give him a chance to see a kaiju up close before the mega kaiju caused the extinction event. For everyone trying to defend how fast these Trashformers jaegers move, it's 10 years after the end of the first movie. For reference Cherno Alpha was 10 years old by the time of that film and it was relatively the same speed as the other jaegers showing they were around the limits of the jaegers by then. With your logic the cars today would be going twice as fast at cars made 10 years ago.
