Our story opens with a flash back of Wily and Light as students in college at the University of Robotics. The school committee is taking a vote to decide who’s idea will be selected for further research. Wily’s research is the double gear system allowing robots incredibly heightened strength and speed! Dr Lights research is on Robots with independent thought. A decision is made and the vote goes to Dr Light. Wily storms off destroying his prototype and thus begins the falling out of the two scientists.. Fast forward to present day, Wily wakes from a dream and a resurgence of the double gear ideas comes to Wily. He begins work at it once more using it to steal Dr Lights current robot masters. As a result each is rebuilt with there own deadly special double gear system to battle MegaMan !

I felt MegaMan 9 and 10 took a big step backwards. Breaking up the skill set of MegaMan, dividing it between 3 character respectively. Not that it wasn’t a good idea but not executed properly. If you want an example of this done right look at Sonic3 & Knuckles. Each character still has the core Sonic move set intact. Each brought new mechanics and a new experience!(tails flying, knuckles wall climb) Now in MegaMan 11 we have the charge and slide back respectful adding a new mechanic, the double gear! A new idea that can help introduce new players into the franchise! I can now slow things down to navigate my way through difficult obstacles or power up to do higher damage! The art style also feels like a step in the right direction (I wish MM7 style) and how MegaMan would look over time. Not that 8 bit isn’t great but even Nintendo has Mario Maker and the option to switch between retro style. Why not just have that with MegaMan. Give us the option to play thru in 8 bit but keep the core gameplay in check !
