I went back and played mega man 2 a few months ago. I always remember this game because my grandfather took me out to Toys R Us and asked me to pick what I want for my birthday, and this was the game I picked. This game is just a classic masterpiece, it's tough but not insanely hard. It's a great game all around.

If you go metal at start: Metal -> Bubble -> Heat -> Wood -> Air -> Crash -> Flash -> Quick The weaknesses of the RMs aren't that important however, as many of them have dual weaknesses (Wood being weak to Air and Heat), and/or have terrible defense (Flash Man takes 4 or 2 damage from the buster depending on difficulty). This combined with Metal Blade being effective on 4 RMs (Metal, Bubble, and Flash are weak to it, and Wood takes more from it than the buster, though Crash, Air, and Heat are all more useful for damage or usage)

Easiest way for me is Buster on Metal --> Metal on Wood --> Metal on Flash --> Metal on Bubble --> Wood on Air --> Air on Crash --> Flash and Crash on Quick --> Bubble on Heat

The difficulty is perfect and thats part of the reason it's so well liked. It is not cheap or dumb or frustrating. Great designs, music and it's well tuned, great combo. When 9 & 10 came out later they went way too rough on the difficulty and old NES cheapness

I always started with heat man. After you get his weapon, go to woodman, charge the heat gun all the way up, and kill wood man with one hit.

I used to have this weird order with this game, like Metal, Wood, Air, Quick, Bubble, Flash, Crash and Heat. Always wanted to have the Quick Boomerang as fast as possible, but looking back I'd probably have gone Metal Flash Quick for an easier time.

MM2 is indeed the easiest in the series but only for us non-japanese with our "normal" mode which was made as a easier version of the original. The original difficulty, "hard" mode, is a whole different level. As much as like MM2, I guess my favourite is MM4. It has the perfect ammount of difficulty, the stages are layouted very well, music was still very nice and you have the slide and the charge shot, vayiring your gameplay options even more.

That, apparently, was a trend with many Japanese exported games. Japanese Game developers believed nobody outside Japan, the US in particular, were smart enough to handle their games, so some of them were exported with much of the difficulty cut. Hell, that's the main reason why we got Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

Well, y'can always just look for the Rockman 2 rom... I liked 7 (and was a bit disappointed when Brentalfloss dissed it in a song, then everyone bandwagoned that 7 was bad because he said so), but actually disliked 8 and Rockman & Forte/Megaman & Bass for the same reason: the enemies in 7 _looked and moved_ like robots, while 8 and M&B/R&F everything was all cartoony and bendy, as if they were people in funny suits--- just like the early American box art. Also, beat 7, and Megaman was gonna finally do the prudent thing and _shoot Wily!_ At that point, Wily might not have improved the accidental "Bassinum" experiments to create Zero, so Sigma wouldn't become corrupted by the Virus (which may be related to the Roboenza virus Wily also hadn't deployed yet). No Maverick wars beyond the Hunters cleaning up Dr Cain's (a fucking _paleobotanist_ bootlegging Light AI) errors in reploids. No Sigma Virus, no Mother Elf needed (and also corrupted). I dunno the Z game's storyline well enough to say if the establishing events of those games would've still happened without Zero ditching his old body into Omega and getting his Armored Panties, or the fight with Wier. No Wier, no biometals of ZX. Meanwhile, without a corrupted Mother Elf, X never had to ditch his body to seal it, so he might've been around to continue Light's work-- or at least more adequately preserve his ideals and AI, so the-- again, problably bootleg off of Light's work-- AI of Megaman Juno and the Elysium Master System might not have been so genocidal to the human/reploid hybrid race (the Carbons of MM Legends). If only he had shot. I dunno, that's just my headcanon.

Not really that much of a difference between Normal and Difficult. Things just take more hits. Instead of finishing Crash with firing the air tornados once (where two of the three has to hit him at the same time), you gotta hit him two or three times. Not that big of a deal, since it's all pretty straight forward. The only challenge is Quick Man, but you get the hang of him too. I agree on MM4 though, but that game was a hard sunovabitch! Much harder than MM2 in Difficult mode, to put it like that :) It gave you lots of enjoyment as a kid though. Endless amounts of replay value, until that late night one day, when you finally beat the game and saw the Wily skull mushroom cloud in the horizon. So wonderful!

I like this rhythm, going back and forth between weird crap games to laugh at, then enjoying a diehard classic in between. keep it up like that, its working. lol. Elvis preferred metal hamburgers.

During my late high school years, I remember borrowing the MMX series when I was sick, I honestly thought about being "Sick" again the next day to borrow my friends NES and MM series. Just so you know, I didn't get into gaming until Final fantasy 3 came out. Ah memories.

It's not so much a "flaw" as a missed opportunity, but I think a lot of mega man games don't do well giving players the opportunity to fully enjoy the special weapons. All the stages are doable with just the buster, and players save all their energy in case they need a specific weapon later, so we're always playing 90% of the game with the basic gun even though we have all these cool toys to play with. Maybe if the special weapons shared a power bar, and you could assign one to a secondary fire button so you don't have to jump into the menu or mash L/R to fire your favorite special weapon, we'd have a little more fun (although granted, these games are great fun already). :)

Definitely agree with you about the weapons, esp. in MM2. Metal Blade is all you really need for the most part. MM9 however, I feel changed that, where the special weapons were needed in certain areas to advance, ie, Wily stage one utilizes the tornado and cement weapons as a necessity.

I'd even be OK with totally removing the power bar for the special weapons, even if that meant taking down their overall power level a little. More options for "primary" weapon would be very welcome!

That's how Mega Man 8 was done. You have one button that shoots the regular buster and another that shoots the currently selected sub-weapon. Unlike previous Mega Man games where only one sub-weapon can be on-screen at a time, you could mix them, like launch the Typhoon weapon to jump into the sky and have the lightning chain equipped to grab a high grappling point.

Mega Man II is not only one of the very best NES games, but also one of the best games ever released, period! 'Nuff said about that!... I think my fav Mega Man stage theme ever is Flash Man's. (I used to listen to that song on loop constantly.) I always adored MM3's opening theme, too. I totally remember seeing videos of The Minibosses performing MM2 (and more gaming) music on-stage and loving it. As a diehard gamer and musician myself, I was so happy to find a band that performed old-school gaming classics, and then I discovered more bands that did it in various styles like The Advantage, The OneUps and, of course, Anamanaguchi.

Metal beats Bubble Man because it severs his air pipe, Bubble beats Heat Man because water douses fire, Heat beats Wood Man because fire burns wood, Wood beats Air Man because the leaves clog up his fan, Air beats Crash Man because of reasons, Crash beats Flash Man because of reasons, Flash beats Quick Man because it slows him down, and Quick beats Metal Man because of reasons. Although I think Metal Man gets absolutely wrecked by his own weapon.

Yeah, MegaMan 7 is really fun to play despite what people says about that game. The music trame are great considering that's on SNES, the stages are pretty decent, appealing, clever and that's exactly what you expect from a mega man game and the challenge is quite there also when trying beating bosses - remember the final boss, in effect Wily, was quite difficult to beat that I've rented it few times before beating that game. I had alot of fun playing that game.

Fun tip, crash bombs will go through Leaf Man's leaf shield, you can just sit there and take him out as his shield is spinning. Also you guys should have started with Air Man, then you could have used his weapon on Crash Man, takes him out in 2 hits.

Yeah, this was one of my favorite games growing up and I got pretty good at it so to mix things up I'd always try the robot masters in different order and try different weapons on each so I kind of found it by accident.

Bubble man is weak to Metal Man, Heat Man is weak Lead Bubble, Wood Man is weak to Heat Man's attack/Metal Blade, Airman is weak to Leaf Shield, Crash Man is weak to Air Man's attack, Flash Man is weak to Crash Man's attack(though he is pretty easy with regular attack also), and Quick Man is weak to Flash stopper (it freezes him and just drains his life). I always start with either metal Man or Flash Man, but that is a quick guide based off my own experiences.

My favorite Mega Man game. Mega Man 2 was my first and only Mega Man game I played until 2017. Been replaying Mega Man on Retropie beat the first 5 so far. Mega Man 2 definitely has the greatest music soundtrack of any game ever. It also has the greatest weapon ever in Mega Man the Metal Blade. Closely followed by Beat and Toad attack. The only bad thing about the game is some of the bosses can't be beat in two or three hits. Mike is a master at this game. I was never able to beat the quick man stage without using the time stopper. I didn't think it was possible until I just saw Mike do it.

***** You can download the NSF file with the music of the game you like from Zophar's Domain and use Foobar 2000 with its NSF player plug in to listen to the tracks and convert them to mp3 or other formats to use them as ring tones. It is a bit of work to do but totally worthy.

Megaman 2 easy? Not exactly. Maybe for players who are so use to it. Some of the bosses and the wily stage are pretty difficult in this game.

So they complain that the game is too easy, but off camera they choose "easy mode" instead of "hard mode" at the title screen? You can tell if the game is on hard mode because for example in metal man's stage the giant totem pole of steel drums enemy will have it's drums/barrels fly towards you after you shoot it's face, but on easy mode every part of it will instantly disappear once you shoot it's face. Kinda getting sick of these guys cheesing their way through games and/or not even fully completing them like with Double Dragon II and Super Ghouls n Ghosts.

ttv0 The japanese version doesn't have the normal mode, only the difficult one. Not sure about other regions like Europe.

Pimpalicious1987 Europe had the choice between Normal and Difficult as well, I believe. I'm quite positive I had the choice as a little boy at least :)

I played the PAL version when I was a child and the music was little bit slower in that version. But same happened in all PAL version games for the retro consoles. :)

I always start with Metal Man, to get the Metal Blade. Then I usually fight Crash Man and Flash Man. I finish with Air Man and Heat Man (to clear that pit with Item-2). The order around the middle varies depending on my mood.

There are actually two difficulty settings in the US version. Normal and Difficult, which is the original japanese difficulty.

phineassprouse2 I have the Japanese version. There's no difficulty selection at all. It just says Press Start on the title screen. They added the easier 'normal' difficulty for the US release.

What makes Mega Man 2 so amazing as a game is that it took everything about the original and made it better. I don't many other sequels to games that do this.

Its not a glitch when the screen shifts, and is actually doing that to prevent the player from getting stuck. If the game finds the player inside a block, it moves them out of it, and the reason the screen snaps is because it moves him exactly one tile. I'm not sure if it always moves you left or right, but this is a common thing to do for 2d collision. They could've just not spawned the block while the player is there though.
