It's something I'm known to go for, I was the only person crazy enough to do it for years. I really wanted to get it in a GDQ showing but seems it was not to be. Oh well. Still had a solid run!

One thing I don’t get about MM6 is why they made the screen transitions so slow. Seriously, they move at a crawl compared to any other NES Mega Man.

Mega Man 4 and 6 have slower screens due to not being VROM games. So the game loads during those transitions quite a bit slower. (things I learned from Myria making the practice rom for MM4)

That is interesting, I would have never thought it would have been a hardware limitation on a cart game could impact simple single-screen scrolling as dramatically as that - I just thought it was a conscious decision on the part of the programmers for effect. Is it safe to assume then that MM5 is a VROM game? Why would they not use it for 4, use it for 5, then go back to not using it for 6? Manufacturing cost?

SmashTom well, I'm talking specifically about how they follow the same route, the same attacks, basically the same inputs, of course, this is just the optimum route, and all of this still requires a lot of skill

There are 3 routes for this game, Wind first is the fastest. Flame first is next, and has the potential to be as fast, maybe even sligtly faster than Wind first, but it relies on having a good Flame pattern using only Buster. Knight first is also a route and is comparable, but a bit slower. Technically we could have showcased all 3 routes but doing that in a race makes it very hard for the average viewer to follow who is in the lead and it also makes it harder to commentate the race.

Thank you! It was really fun! And all it takes is time. I've been at this game for 5 years. When I started I never thought I'd be as good as the record runs then. I thought the record was Tiki's 36:45 (it was actually Hotarubi with 34:50, or that was the record soon after, I forget). I've since beaten both of those times and have made a guide for the game on how to speedrun it. Just time and practice!

It's been the same way for.. at least 3-4 years now afaik. They aim for non-intrusive overlays. Personally I wish they'd add a number next to the names to reference which player belongs to which name in the order they are seated on the cam to the viewers. In this case, the leftmost player would be top-left, middle player top-right etc, but it's not always the case :p
