I'm glad to see such a fair review of this game, it usually gets such a bad rap. I remember it coming out when I was a kid during this period in the mid 90s when briefly, neither my brother nor I had a subscription to Nintendo Power and thus I had absolutely no idea it was even gonna be a thing. I remember us getting out of school early one Friday and ended up getting to rent a game for our 3-day weekend, I found this and was blindsided; I loved MMX a lot but nothing could ever beat the NES Megaman games in my eyes, and getting surprised outta nowhere with a brand new entry on the SNES with these gorgeous graphics and songs while my brother and I played it back and forth all throughout this rainy weekend -- yeah, okay, it definitely gave me some heavy personal nostalgia for the game. But even then, I'd played all the "superior" earlier ones and X beforehand, and it still stands above many of them in my eyes, and is one of my favorite of the whole series, even replaying it to this day. I get that it feels slightly slow and your sprite seems slightly big but I dunno. Between the great visuals (my favorite visual style of the whole series in fact), fantastic soundtrack, cool weapons and upgrades, plethora of secrets (I'm STILL finding out about crazy stuff you can find with Rush Search), good but fair challenge and fun level gimmicks, I really, truly think it's a high point in the series and people seem to direly misjudge it simply based on the fact it came out a bit after X but wasn't as ""fast"" or ""cool"" as that game. And Brentalfloss can fuck _right_ off with that lyric in his Mega Man 2 Wily remix.

Mega Man 2 ain't what it they live it up to be. Although it definitely is a game worth playing and still subjectively very good, it doesn't really go far and beyond in any sense of the word (besides one weapon's power).

7 is the best of the classic series and I refuse to hear otherwise. The others are great and X1, X2, and X4 are better than the classic series, but 7 unfairly gets a bad rap because "b-but muh sprite sizes!!" ignoring that the levels are built around said sizes making them a non-issue and "i-it's not X tho!!" Which... Yeah dummy. It's not X. It's not trying to be X and that's fine.

I recently heard in an interview with the game's director that Megaman 7 was completed in just THREE MONTHS. This was because the game was originally contracted to the same developer who made almost all of the GameBoy Megaman games but Capcom management didn't like it, so it was all scrapped, yet they still wanted to keep the same target release date. So a new internal Capcom team was put together and worked those crazy 20 hour days non-stop to get the project finished on time. Therefore any criticism of Megaman 7 has to filtered through the realization of the sheer blood sweat and tears the staff put into this one.

Lol these chumps say it is not hidden, but i played Mega Man X 20 yrs ago and did not know of Mega Man 7 until less than 10 years ago. So sure you can say it is all subjective, or you can understand that difference. That if it is not well advertised, then it is hidden. I remember a friend of mine (who liked the X series and introduced me to it) describing to me the scene with Mega Man putting on the wrong helmet. I later picked up the game through emulation and got fairly good at playing it. When I loaded up the game in front of my friend and picked Burst Man, his reaction was "You can't beat Burst Man first!" It was a small thing, but I'd generally consider this friend better at games than me, so this was a rare moment where I felt like the superior player.

I’m a bit surprised that there was no mention of either of the primary things that differentiates MM7 from the bulk of the series (imo); the difficulty is lowered & the sprites are much bigger than any of the classic Rock Man games, or the X series. That choice is what resulted in such memorable visuals with the pixel art.

I know it's mostly SNES for you, but what do you think about Capcom taking Mega Man 9 and 10 back go 8-bit? My dream is for them to make new X games, but 2D 32-bit(8, X4), or whatever better bit they can do, because that's where the franchise peaked at.(just stick to 2D sprites)

I, too, prefer the Mega Man X series, but one thing the original Mega Man series did have going for it was that it was much more challenging that X. I could play through MMX in my sleep, but not this game! Of course, for the ultimate 16 bit Mega Man challenge, nothing beats Mega Man & Bass in my opinion.

the last boss is crazy. It's a war of attrition. The buying aspect is good but not the four levels at a time thing. I feel like 8 and this one are very connected since it's also bright and has the money/screw system. I like 8 more. Somehow when I was a young teen, I played the japanese cart too. Didn't get to play it in english until the anniversary collection. Still have MM&Bass to go. It's like the series looped after 8... back to the snes... and then back to Nes graphics

MM7 is, at best, fine. Never going to compete with 2 or 4, not as broken as 3 about as meh as 6. Still Megaman, so the floor is still "pretty good", but compared to other Megamans, it's just a bit meh.

I will say, from a gameplay perspective, MegaMan 7 is for inferior, and sadly it only comes down to a single issue. The damage scaling of the megabuster charge doesn't make sense, and most weapons don't do much more damage than that. Once you get the lightning bolt you could basically just use that instead of the buster in entirely, and it does more damage than most of the other ones. If they fix the damage scaling the rest of the game would be amazing. In a way it kind of has the same problem that mega Man 2 has but to a lesser extent with the metal blade basically being an all-around replacement for almost all weapons. But in that game your buster did proper scaling and there was no charge feature. But the charge feature in mega Man 7 there's no point of going to charge level 3, and with how long it takes to get to charge level 2, you're better off just using the normal buster or like I said previously, the thunderbolt.

I'm playing this game for the first time, after a doing a run of all the NES classics in order. I gotta admit I got kinda disappointed. The soundtrack is barely average in comparison to the previous games, the balance is kinda off, in a sense that instead of feeling hard, the stages feel broken, and the robot masters are ridiculously easy. It lacks the mega man feel of the controls, I guess. Probably it's not a bad game on its own, but having played all 6 NES games this week, this one feels totally meh. I used to hate MM6 and ended up really liking it this time, so maybe it has to do with the whole immersion experience.

Honestly, I cannot forgive the zoosadistic overtones of Megaman X. I legitimately get sick when I play them. Mega Man 7 is more of my jam. It has some really good level designs, though I feel some of them could have been bigger, it has a well-designed bosses and even some exploration. Dr. Wily is tough-as-nails in this game, though. Even with 5 e tanks I had a hard time beating him.

Mega Man 7 is still my favorite in the series. I prefer it to the NES games and everything else barring the original Mega Man X. Best music, great stage design, awesome boss battles, and tons of easter eggs and things to find. The latter part really added depth to the game . I'll never forget when Nintendo Treehouse was playing this game at E3 in 2014.

Personally my only gripe with this game is there's way too much dialog. During cutscenes it's fine, but why did they have to make Mega Man ask Dr Light what each special weapon does EVEN WHEN IT'S NAME CLEARLY TELLS YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IT?!?!? I get it if they wanted to give you hints of how to find the hidden items in the stages or just for some chuckles, but Mega Man comes off as an idiot for asking what the SCORCH/BURNING WHEEL does! A demonstration screen like in Mega Man 6 would've been fine as it is! Other than that I love this game! And it has THE best ending out of all the Mega Man games! I never get tired of seeing Mega Man walking away from Dr Wily's exploding and burning fortress behind him!

Good review, but I'm surprised you didn't mention that this game is hard AF. It's the only password-supported game in the series where I had to use the save states on the classic collection to beat Dr. Wiley - one of the hardest battles in the series.

I never really appreciated the depth this game offered when it was new. There are hidden routes and secrets and Easter eggs all over this thing, and each level offers so many options for how you could get through, far more than I ever realized. But at the time I was just annoyed as hell how they give you only four bosses and then four after that, instead of all eight right up front. Honestly, I'm still annoyed by that. Of course, playing it today is a little hard because I just keep thinking of this as a Bob and George game instead of Mega Man.

One thing that should be noted is for whatever reason, the charged shot for either charge levels only deals 2 units of damage. So unless you're charging a shot with the rush adapter, its a tad pointless to do a full charge. So you're better off just doing rapid standard shots or using a turbo button to get around killing things with the mega buster. that said, i have a bit of fondness with this entry in the classic series. along with X3, 7 was another game I emulated in my early days and got to experience it that way before getting the anniversary collection on gamecube.

I love mega man but this game was hurting. The x series was on snes we’re so good but that isn’t what brought this one down. It felt so slow and clunky. As mega man got bigger on the screen it seemed to just make the levels feel dull and even a bit claustrophobic. This is still better then the mega man 8 abomination though. Mega man 9 and 10 I really enjoyed, especially in 10 when you can play as protoman. The 8 bit just suited mega man so perfectly just as the 16bit was perfect for x.

I thought it was great as a cartoon version of Mega Man, that reminded me a lot of the animated series. The robot museum was especially great, where you fight a version of Gutsman from the original Mega Man that is like the version from the animated series. I think the only mistake was not doing a complete remake of the original Mega Man based on the animated series, in the same style of the Gutsman mini boss. It's a really fun game, so I think a "Super Mega Man" series, as remakes of the NES games, should have been done in addition to Mega Man 7 on the SNES.

The problem is the ending is gimped, they couldn't recreate the mode 7 of the games ending, so it's just Mega Man walking against a black background while the credits roll. I have MMAC on PS2 as well, it's good, but I still prefer playing my 6 NES carts, this one on my SNES, 8 on PS1 and Saturn, 9 and 10 on Wii (since I had it before I got my PS3), the 5 Gameboy ones, Rockman Complete Works 5 on PS1, Wily Wars on the Genesis (repro), and Rockman & Forte on my SNES. I finally broke down and also got MMXC PS2 a few years ago. It took me forever to warm up to the X series. I have a couple other versions of it too, MMX1 SNES, and MMX 4 PS1.

Wow, u know there's a great game MegaMan 5 for Gameboy, that's how I got started Loving the series, to me it's bone one of the better games even MegaMan X 1is still truly my favorite X game

lightsouthaha Haha, I'm an oooollld veteran of the internet (been online since the AOL/Prodigy days of the mid-90s) so nothing bothers me on here, but thanks for the considerate comment. I will do Mega Man and Bass at some point, but what's nice about this channel is I can do whatever the hell I want. At least no one's said "DO FREEBIRD" yet.
