It's impressive to see how a tight, relatively straightforward format like this just works so well. The episodes are really quite short given the amount of information and humor, as well as really nicely assembled visuals from magazines, old commercials, and gameplay. I enjoy the Jared sections and really look forward to Editor Dylan's section, as well -- it breaks the episodes up and creates variety in the flow that's still very appropriate and keeps the right energy for the show. I'm happy to continue watching here on the new channel, and look forward to seeing this continue to grow. Great job!

Agreed, it's a great blast from the past. I don't know if moving it to its own channel was the right move to make that happen though. It already wasn't really pulling that great of viewership relative to Pro Jared's subscriber count so I'm not sure why he made this decision. Maybe he felt like a fresh start would give it more exposure in a way?

@@TheBigZ0603 As someone a bit younger, I find it's a really great way to get a basic overview of a lot of games that are pretty obscure or otherwise forgotten from before my time. @@tylersbiggestflowerboy Oh yeah, I'm aware of the drama thing as I've been watching ProJared since long before that. Now that you mention it, the mass canceling and unsubscribing he had to deal with because of that might have destroyed the KZbin algorithm for his main channel. Could be a good explanation as to why his sub and viewer count has seem to stay stagnant ever since even though he proved his innocence and has seemingly been forgiven by most of the general audience.

Great video. Just a quick correction: Enker is from Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge, the first Game Boy Mega Man. Mega Man II GB featured a character named Quint, Quint is actually Mega Man from a future timeline that was reprogrammed by Dr. Wily and sent back to destroy the present Day Mega Man.

I would like to point out that King is KOT the final boss, but a sub boss. When you beat her, you fight her employer, Mr. Big. After him, is his hired hitman, Mr. Karate who is actually (spoiler) Takuma Sakazaki. Also, Ryo is technically the main character, since this all revolves around his family drama

Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury were both created by ex-Streetfighter 1 developers, making them unofficial spiritual sequels. Capcom and SNK had a friendly rivalry going, with employees regularly meeting up for gaming and drinking competitions outside of work. Also, SNK had their own parody character, with Yuri being a hyper-cute Ryu - an idea Capcom would also explore in the Alpha series.
@H0lyMoley Жыл бұрын
I remember playing Art of Fighting on arcade machines and mostly enjoying it. The Megadrive port was pretty bad though. It felt both really basic and frustrating to control, with the computer opponents using cheap shots all the time. Street Fighter 2 it wasn't. Although it did try to be.
@mallow2902 Жыл бұрын
Funnily enough, nowadays Yuri has more in common with Akuma than Ryu in terms of how she plays. She has a move extremely similar to Akuma's demon flip and she has a dive kick and air fireballs.

As a kid who loved RPG games, Defender's of Oasis was a staple for me on long car trips or vacations. Second favorite game on the game gear (Shining Force: Sword of Hajya was my favorite) I played it several times. A little basic now, but good music, different setting, and interesting enemy design made it remain enjoyable.

Can vouch, Defenders Of Oasis is a real hidden gem, if you enjoy old JRPGs. It's genuinely a good game, and it has a surprisingly solid localization at a time when we were still getting a lot of mangled translations. Plus excellent graphics for an 8-bit game. And about that autosave feature: Jared undersells it. It autosaves *with every step.* If you die, you lose zero progress and just get to try again from before the battle started. Or if you need to stop, just turn off the power. Which is such smart player-focused design, surprisingly so for the early 90s. (Although you could also totally abuse it to cheese a few slide-across-the-ice puzzles. 😀)

The tongue in cheek rivalry between SNK and Capcom was ways so entertaining. Dan went on to be one of the most well represented joke characters to the point of being viable in some games no less, and getting Yuri iconic taunt. In responce Yuri would continually gain more and more strength getting things like Ryu's Shin-sho-ryu-ken and I remember even a ragging demon analog. Then the hatchet was buried with Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2 and then finally Chaos. All good games for various reasons, CvS1 is a nice solid game tho the ratio system hurt team comp. SvC2 fixing that and adding the groves representing the best of both C A P and S N K. And then Chaos... Well for the chaos. I miss those days. I do wonder if we can, in this day and age, see another crossover now that SNK is making waves again. Next week motorcycle combat? Oooooooh! Road Rash?!

Babbage's was a store that is pretty much near the bottom for me when it comes to video game retailers. Their prices were comparably high to places like Service Merchandise and Sears, they often had display cases on shelves for games which they were out of stock of, and there was more than one occasion where a game rang up at a price higher than what was displayed on the shelf. The only reason I went to there as a kid was because there were few other options for buying games at the mall my mother frequented. You had Sears, KB Toys and Babbage's, and Babbage's had a bigger overall selection. There was another mall further away that had an Electronics Boutique (which had an even better selection and extremely helpful staff), but we rarely went to that one. Man...remembering Babbage's brings back memories of how sad I was that the local Lionel Toy Warehouse went out of business in the early 90s. I _loved_ that store.

I really want to say that King of Fighters eventually becomes that very same extended universe that Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury were part of and much more in a single entry; but then again, a plot point and character death that's present in Fatal Fury is ignored in KoF, so that only makes the thing even MORE convoluted. Specially so when the kid that comes out of that plot point still retains his backstory in KoF...
