OMG, Eternal Champions is a major blast from the past! I remember me and my old man playing this game back when I was a kid. Out of nowhere, my dad triggered an overkill out of nowhere at the Atlantis(?) stage and saw my character (Xiaver, IIRC) getting eaten alive by piranhas. The looks on our faces that day was priceless! I even remember resetting the game to see each character destroy the sega logo.
@kyuubinaruto17 Жыл бұрын
I found the game to be too difficult, mostly because the computer blatantly cheats. They can use their specials as much as they want, even if their special meter is empty. There's also how getting defeated sends you back a fight or two instead of having a continue system. The training modes are cool, but it's weird how you can set the difficulty in the training mode but not chose a difficulty for the main game.

Got to love the 90's commercials more interested in being edgy than in showing what the heck are they actually selling. That Eternal Champion's one could barely force itself to show like 10 seconds of the game. Hope you all have a happy holidays. EDIT: 13:33 Not being a fighting game connoisseur, I was kinda amused (yet not surprised) when seeing that Mai Shiranui has an aerial attack in which she dives boobs first into the enemy's face.

Did Eternal Champions eat "Granny Fighter" in that Commercial? LOL it sure looks like it!

My favourite thing about Eternal Champions is how it has various fighting locations from throughout history and one of them is literally just a McDonald's parking lot. I mean, they changed the logo but you still can easily tell it's a McDonald's just from the architecture, back before they started turning McDonald's restaurants into bland boxes roughly a decade and a half later. My biggest gaming memory of 1994 was passing by an arcade in Montreal somewhere on Rue Ste-Catherine near Complexe Desjardins and Place des Arts sometime in the later part of the spring or early summer and seeing a little bit of a crowd. They had a brand new Daytona USA machine with a large screen facing out towards the street and, at the time, it was like seeing a game from the future. Ironically, I don't think I ever actually got around to playing Daytona USA, I didn't have a lot of change with which to be able to play arcade games in 1994 and I think Daytona USA was a full "Loonie" (Canadian dollar coin) to play, I never got a Sega Saturn, and, once we had a Dreamcast, there were more sophisticated racing games like Metropolis Street Racer, Ferrari F355 Challenge, and Test Drive: Le Mans. My top Sega Genesis game of 1994 was mentioned in this episode, but it wasn't really shown in the sequence of 1994 games at the end but rather it was mentioned in passing earlier in the video: Dune II: The Battle for Arrakis. I also like Shining Force II.

Since Sega's bringing back a bunch of their old series, I think it's the perfect time they give Eternal Champions another shot. I think it had potential, but it was too focused on trying to bank off the success of bigger fighting games at the time.

I don't know how common knowledge this was, or if there's any documentation on it, but as a kid, I was invited to the Sega STI headquarters in Foster City to focus test something new. I was hoping it was a new video game... Color me disappointed when I'm led into a meeting room with other kids, and they have an "Eternal Champions" comic book on the table. They brough out this device that would frame itself around the page of the comic, and it would read the comic for you, with a narrator and voice acted dialogue. Seeing Eternal Champions reminded me of this, and I don't know if any other people really know about this since it was never released.

Ninja Turtles on the SNES was a good time. My cousin had it, and we played it at the family get-together one Thanksgiving or Christmas.

God, Eternal Champions is a master class of wasted potential. The ideas that were implemented in this game like having characters that were morally grey and not inherently good or evil really could have gone over well today if it ever gets rebooted--but considering that Virtua Fighter was the fighting game that Sega wanted to keep making, Eternal Champions just fizzled out into obscurity. I will forever be a defender of this game's legacy, despite the fact that the controls were...shoddy at best.

It’s more complicated than that. VF and Eternal Champions were never in competition. (Sega went on to make MANY other fighting games aside from VF, like Fighting Vipers). FV was specifically a western developed answer to Mortal Kombat, which was big in the west and non existent in Japan. As a result, Sega Of America was given free rein to do what they needed to do. But the power struggles inside Sega meant that SOA lost their power after the 32x, which was the same time we heard the last out of Fighting Vipers. (Via The spinoff game Xperts)

This channel getting demonitized by KZbin while actually plagiarists are only held accountable by the community is pretty much a microcosm of everything wrong with capitalism. Hope it gets sorted soon.

It was funny how Eternal Champions was so difficult that if you had the audacity to lose you wouldn't "lose a credit", you would be sent back to the last opponent you lucked out and beat to fight again. Imagine making it to right before the final boss to lose to the sub boss and continue a lose streak until you're back to the beginning.

12:22 Collection, not Edition. Also, I never thought you'd forsake the fact that Mega Man X came out on December 29, 1993.
