Gonna be honest, chief, I had never even heard of this game before. So you’re telling me this incredible looking game came out in 1997?! Really goes to show how graphics come and go, but art style is forever. Even if it is somewhat clunky to play by modern standards (which let’s be honest, every 3D game from that time period is).

I just love how Megaman Legends is having a sort of renaissance and is finally being getting the praised it deserves. It is obviously not gonna take over the gaming industry, but lately I've noticed a considerable amount of indie games that have drawn inspiration heavily from this game, both on the art department and gameplay, the two most notable for both being Abyss x Zero and Delta-Gal.

Sadly, this series was demolished by content creators back in the day when the hating on everything was the norm, and indeed the controls feel dated, but that is the only negative point of the entire thing.

It is one of those things that's really hard to say but if you were there you definitely saw it. Brought up seeing it get bashed only to play the game myself way later on is a huge reason I wanted to make this video.
@DOSStormАй бұрын
One of the issues was "content creators" back then were reviewers like IGN, Gamespot or TV media outlets where one bad take could ruin a game's chances for success. Couple that with the fact it turned off many Mega Man fans who were expecting something completely different and didn't give it a proper chance. This game got trashed and then Ocarina of Time did a similar thing just a year later and was hailed as one of the greatest games of all time. I can't help but think if the game didn't use the Mega Man name it might have been marketed and received better.
@Gamer_Man_Bathwater3 ай бұрын
Megaman Legends has always been a misunderstood masterpiece. A lot of people couldn't get past the fact that it wasn't a regular Megaman game. It was always supposed to be an adventure/rpg like the Megaman equivalent of a Zelda game. I'm still not sure why people wanted it to be a regular Megaman game when there's already like 20 other regular Megaman games. A Zelda-like Megaman game was always way more interesting to me than yet another standard MM game. MM Legends even did some things better than Ocarina of Time which came out a year after MM Legends. It was ahead of its time in a lot of ways. Its only flaw is the controls, but that's not really the fault of the designers , every ps1 game had tank controls, since they all had to be able to work on a non dual stick controller, which was the only controller available on the ps1 for its first few years.

Legends 1 more so than 2 was and still is one of my favorite games of all time, looking back on it from when I was a kid and realizing that the design for Katalox island was done in such a way that it was built like a Metroid game, as you progress more and more of the island opens up to you not only from the surface but also the ruins throughout the island, things like the drill arm opening up new paths for the player to explore and find, having to make your weapons made exploration feel like it was necessary, the 2nd Legends game while still great felt like a Zelda game in nature, each ruin you had to go through had an item of sorts you go in there for, search the whole dungeon find the boss key fight boss get thing move onto the next.

I may have misheard so correct me if I did, but the city attack and the following quest is actually dynamic. The damage isn't scripted so you can prevent a lot of damage to the town if you're good enough which will unlock sidequest associated with those building a lot sooner and save you a ton of Zenny! There's even a different "mission complete" voice track if you let the town get completely wrecked in the attack instead.

But like, really?? There's a whole game here full of fun and charm, and those two tiny moments are all you people can focus on? Not to mention this was made to cater to a younger audience. Next you're gonna tell me that some pop culture success story like Twilight should be shunned because of romantic themes around high schoolers, also "underaged." Heh...

@@Vulpas even though OOT had the same engine as mario 64 meaning everything was already tweaked yet was released one year after MML. MML was released for the ps1 the n64 version is a port and while the n64 version can draw more polygons it has a limitation with memory and MML uses detailed textures thats and flat shading(shadows are drawn within the texture) thats why its graphics are one of the very few games that holdes up today. While I like OOT there is a long list of negative things that ruin the experiense try waiting 3 minutes just to open a pause menu in order to select an item to use and the bad frame rate.OOT you still can't jump the comand is automatic. MML was one of the most influential games ever made. Auto targeting(aim assist) invincibilty frame dodge roll which is a default move in almost every action game(dark souls,dead cell,god of war devil may cry). It even influenced the ODM gear in Attack on titan. It was the first open world 3D game before legend of zelda, shenmue or GTA. If people don't blame both sony and nintendo twin stick controllers was a thing in the arcade scince 1975 (twin stick shooter). You need two joysticks for a third person controller that is just a fact of life just like D-pad is a must have in every 2D game 3D games need two joysticks. The issue stayed all the way untile nintendo switch. Nintendo did make the same mistake with 3Ds and sony with the psp. I honstly don't get why but this was there fault why most games from that era doesn't hold up.
