I actually ended up replaying 1, and playing 2 and 3 for the first time, after the previous video talking about the DX patch for 1. 1 feels soooo much better with the DX patch, I actually enjoyed the boss fights (though some were ridiculously hard) and I enjoyed collecting the Star cards as they gave me a focal point for deck building. The story in 2 was nice, but weak overall. I felt for Vega at the end, but it was kinda obvious what direction her character was going in. The story for 2 was definitely very…textbook shonen anime. The story for 3 was also pretty textbook, but handled MUCH better. The pacing felt a bit off though at times, but the payoff was always worth it. The voice acting whenever you become mega man was annoying in the beginning, but I got used to it and even liked it towards the end. It was a head cannon ‘anime moment’ thing where I would use it before entering a stage in a ‘heroic manner’. Let’s just say I ended up embracing my inner child for this aspect.

I just realized how similar this series is to Kamen Rider Fourze. - Main Character powers originate from space - Entire Space motif - Ensemble cast filled with high schoolers - Protagonist forming bonds with various characters - Uses said bonds as a emotional support. - Megaman in the anime has Omega eat Cards to gain powers, similar to Ryuki’s vents. Megaman Starforce is a Kamen Rider spin-off. Jk, it’s actually a strange coincidence.
@nicodalusong1492 жыл бұрын

@nicodalusong149 Жыл бұрын
@@rogue1248 It's definitely the latter. Kamen Rider is older than Mega Man. The ones who made Mega Man were kids who grew up watching OG Kamen Rider, Ninja Captor (because of MM11 implementing the different armor designs for Mega Man based on which power he is using which was supposed to be the plan since MM1), and anime like Tetsuwan Atom, Casshan and Mazinger-Z. The Kamen Rider parts are mostly in the plot like Dr. Wily stealing the Robot Masters (basic plot of most Showa Riders), Mega Man volunteering to become a battle robot (Kamen Rider X), Protoman getting upgraded and working for Wily in MM3 and then fighting him in MM4 (Kamen Rider Stronger and probably a bit of 2-Gou). I'd very loosely argue Battle Network 1 uses Agito/Kuuga-style form changes. ZX uses Kamen Rider W-styled transformations

Alright, as the only person who honestly thinks that Star Force 2 is a good game, I must defend it's honor! In terms of story, yeah it may not be the best, and maybe I am reading too much into the story, but I saw it as a continuation of the friendship theme of the first game. Specifically, the first game was about making friends after a trauma, while the second game tests said bonds, with Prez getting highly annoyed by Amy's attention at Grizzly Peak, Zack thinking everyone else is holding him back at Loch Mess, Bud losing his memories at Wazzap, and Sonia pulling a "I must save the hero by betraying him" in the Bermuda Maze. However, Geo is able to use what happened to strengthen his bonds, rather than letting them break. Do I think that it was poorly handled, yes. Do I think that it had potential, oh yeah. The game play was definitely improved, as you stated, and I would like to add that if one happens to have an Action Replay, there are codes to give you the Classic Mega Man and L.M. Shin Brothers, and give you the Tribe King and Le Mu cards. As for the areas, it may be that I have played these games for so long, but I do not have too much of a problem with the puzzles. Wonderful video, and I cannot wait for the next one.

The plot of SF2 could have been interesting if it held the themes that Vega wanted to express. Vega's tragedy is purely about how foolish people hoarded power and their endless greed caused harm to others. So the targets oughta have been people that suffered similarly. More people that were wronged by society because people in power were horrible. Like take the Loch Mess situation with Plesio. The villain, Gerry, expressed his backstory had been that he was once a good reporter that wanted to report the truth, but never got the ratings, but only when he lied did he get the ratings. They could have actually delved deeper into it rather than just saying it. He could have been a genuinely good person that was pressured by people to do the wrong thing. That his boss, the studio, and so on pushed him to make false reports and get ratings in all the wrong ways. And mind you, people like Hyde could have still been part of Vega's group, but oughta have been handled betteer.

@@0axis771 True. Very true. Gerry Romero would work very well if they showed he was being pushed into faking Messie by his superiors, but felt really guilty, I would have had a lot of sympathy for him. He would be the type of person with a problem to easily exploit and simple to target. Might play up his fear of being caught at the same time as feeling guilty due to pressure. The Shaman from Whazzap I think they did better with. He had some legitimate worthwhile motives for his actions. I felt for him.

@@calidee847 Hence why the Shaman was the most memorable of the arc antagonists we fought against in SF2. I think Starforce two gets a lot of hate from the fanbase, but I think it had really cool ideas and story beats that just were not fleshed out well at all. I think it’s because it had to release less than a year after SF1, that’s just not enough time I think. It really showed how rushed they were, either way I think 2 introduces a lot of the coolest elements of Starforce with Rogue and the merging forms, and it still deserves respect even though it’s probably the worst of the trilogy. Every tribe of Mu had a unique way of killing, for example: leaving the corpse in a tree, dissolving the human, drying the human to death, changing the human into sand, pulling the human into the ground, dragging the human into the air and dropping them, vaporizing, etc. Killing a human with less than 500 Link Power is considered a taboo with a penalty of death carried out by Solo no matter what.

Last year I replayed all three Star Force games on my own for the first time in 5 or 6 years, and holy cow can I tell why I didn't replay 2 nearly as much as 1 when I was a kid. The encounter rate is absolutely absurd, especially on the sky wave, which is easily the worst part of any of these games to me. I feel like Bud and Zack's characterization in the first game was just a little lacking after they joined the main cast, so I appreciate that they tried to fix that, but they got exactly 1 personality trait each in this game and the writers would NOT let you forget it. Star Force 2 is by far the weakest in the trilogy, imo.

It's the weakest because it doesn't even at anything the way the other two games do. The first game had a great story and the third game had polished and really fun combat. This game is average but it's still great fun. I'm definitely going to apply the patch because yeah, the encounter rate was terrible.

because the living legend Masahiro Yasuma didn't do his glorious work in 2. what a let down. i really loved his story writing in 1 and 3 and it solidifies Star Force Mega Man's theming too. being a space themed Mega Man.

Even if the story inferior to the SF1, I appreciate the effort the dev made to create an emotional story.

As always, you are doing incredible work and highlighting games that deserve spotlight. You covered my favorite game of 2021 (Everhood) AND you cover these gems. BN3 alone should be considered a gaming masterpiece.

Lanfront Ruins from Super Adventure Rockman is basically Mu and Ra Moon is basically King Ra (or Le Mu as he's _incorrectly_ known in this game). Also General Auriga seems to be an MMX reference (albeit one less direct than Colonel in MMBN)

This game is so solid and trust me since it returned the original and dark roots started since the good old days of BN1-3 thanks to bringing back the unique secret bosses, post game credit upgraded rival, and a darker tone once you reach to the Alternate Future, General Auriga/Apollo Flame, and Rogue SX. If not for those 3, SF2 would go low bottom as hated by the players though it is possible that they only completed the main story and not the entire content of the game. Rogue no doubt is a solid rival moreso than Protoman.EXE and Bass.EXE ever was. Apollo Flame on the other hand is considered Megaman's best antagonist for killing off the majority of the cast and thanks to that his popularity got him to appear in the 3rd game. What I like about the game was that the competitive scenario gave it a tourney in Japan and the difficulty of the game due to the encounter rate along with the bosses are the pinnacle of what this game has yet to offer. Overall the game is still pretty good and the only thing bothering it is that it is being overlooked in general.

A thing that I quite not confirm nor deny is that the teams behind SF1 & 3 and SF2 were different, this would explain the quality differences.

Love Solo as a rival. Shane SF3 doesn't do more with him, but what's left unsaid and the post game make up for it.

I found the star code that let’s you use tribe king as soon as you start every fight, this was after I had already beat the game though so I didn’t use it to simply give myself the perfect edge in the story I remember doing that post game, and I was about 12 years old and I did all of it with little to no help since I didn’t have good/ consistent access to the internet at the time and at the end of it all back then there were no good guides for the Star Force series, much less were there videos on the subject. But I love Star Force too much to have backed down and to this day it is STILL my favorite iteration of MEGAMAN.

my sole dissappointment with SF 2 was the change on the original tribes. Originally, it was going to be Zerker, Ninja, Angel and Pirates, and the concept art, especialy for Pirate megaman was FUCKING SPECTACULAR! And it would make more sense since all 4 are HUMAN tribes (well, humanoid since angels are... angels) but better than dinossaurs being included with "link power" bullshit. Did a T-rex asked a Megalodon to make a brotherband? WTF!

I can def see why this game is the black sheep of the series but I have fond memories of this game, it’s actually the first megaman game I ever played and what got me into the series

In hindsight I was very lucky that Star Force 2 (EU so a bunch was missing) was my first Megaman game that I played. Kid me didn't care about constant encounters or skippable writing, the gameplay was sick! And the concept of obtainable boss cards from stronger boss battles was so cool to me! And I only had better games to play after! When I replayed it many years later I got annoyed because of the constant SkyNet travel though. I have NO idea how kid me managed to go through all of Apollo, that shield is extremely mean on higher forms. For anyone that's interested, I'm pretty sure Mu Gatling is avoidable by moving and by Shielding the unavoidables and once the shield is hit, cancelling it by moving to a currently safe spot? The sooner you get out of your shield animatiom, the faster you can shield again iirc

Starforce 2 has a tokukatsu story which I appreciate. Starforce 1 has more of a developing story but I enjoy both equally because starforce 2 just does a good job giving more of the characters you met

ATK, otherwise known as "Auto Tribe King," indeed got abused in online play. I remember seeing that people had formed an online, anti-ATK group at the time. It was kind of silly, but I guess the idea was to have more people who didn't use the wave command? That was one of two rules I remember -- the other being that you put something in your name to denote membership to the group.

It was so unfortunate that the sf series was so much of a middle child that even the anime of the same title had to be made 12 minutes each with very low qualities, and those only went worse by the episodes. Heck, many anime viewers don’t even know 12min animes exist. On the other hand the battle network really was decent and above during the days.

Just finished star force 2 It’s alright, I definitely got my bearings at the end, but the earlier sections were a GRINDDDD. I’ve used a guide the most On this game, and much prefer the easier difficulty of starforce 1, needless to say, solo’s cool, and i enjoyed the new forms, and linknpower is…alright but I feel like too many things were locked under link power.

If anyone happens to see this, please read and let me know your opinion in this specific matter. I need more than my own point of view. Thank you kindly. If there's any ONE thing that sticks out to me from this game, it's actually the character personalities, and not in a good way. It seems almost as if the story writers were replaced and I wouldn't be surprised how this ended up mangling the character personalities. Starting with Geo, coming off of SF1, he has renewed trust and value in his friends, yet in SF2, he becomes insecure and timid. Geo was never insecure about himself, only fearing that he should lose people. That's why he shunned relationships initially, not because fear of rejection. So it makes little sense that the next step after destroying a planet-destroying machine with the power of relationships would render him insecure only 2 months (or so? I forget exactly how long). But by FAR AND AWAY the biggest offender is Omega-Xis. Now before you all At me, I want you to think how Mega was portrayed in SF1. He was smart, cunning, and tactical (and a bit of a tease to Geo) with a side of brute force to back it up. Basically, both Brains and Brawns. Starting SF2 and into SF3, his personality becomes like a violent, unthinking thug, trying to solve any problem with hitting it. Going into SF3, he outright criticizes characters for using "big words like "assignment" " and so on. He literally is about "Buck wild" and tearing things up. NOW, don't get me wrong, I like Mega, he's a really fun character, and he has most of the good lines in the games. Even in SF2 and SF3, I like him. But what it was about Mega that originally endeared him to me is that he was the rational side to Geo's immaturity, pushing him forward and out of his comfort zone to try new things. That smart, intelligent, yet powerful personality. But it's almost like, in order to distinguish Geo's character from Omega-Xis's following SF1's ending, where Geo is confident and cheerful and rational, the writers, new or not, had to MAKE Mega irrational in order to separate Mega's character from Geo's, so they made Geo the "Normal Protagonist" and Mega the "Crazy Sidekick." All I'm saying is I miss SF1 Mega's personality, but SF2 and SF3 are a good alternative. Also, Luna was a little too on edge this game, Bud got nice character development, and FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, I wish they gave Zack proper character development. Mostly because I see some of my younger self in him. At least the nerd bit.
