I remember absolutely loving the first game. Staying up late past bedtime, sneaking around at night to go grab my DS off the charger, trying to make the click clacks of the DS opening and closing as silent as possible, just to play fossil fighters and Pokemon ranger. Those were the days.

SAAAAME. BUT WITH CHAMPIONS. Let's be honest: this blows pokemon out of the water. And, I think a more action combat oriented spin off would play very well. Kinda like where you take full control of your vivosaur for a third person combat section using moves. FP is earned through either successfully evading the enemy moves, or through waiting for a small amount of time. As it constantly regens. And FP Plus would make the recharge cut down by 25%

Champions is my favorite Fossil Fighter game. Btw, in Fossil Fighter Champions there is an NPC staff at one of the areas that says this when you speak to him: "Fast cars are exciting, right? The fact that fossil fighters had good 3D graphics only two years after Pokemon Diamond and peril were barely chugging along with 3D modes shows how well they hold up. Fossil fighters was the first game I ever spent over 100 hours on one save file.

To be fair, a lot of the viviosaurs attack animations were identical to the ones of similar/related ones. I guess this was still better than pokemon, since the animations were the same regardless of the Pokemon. I'm still scared by seeing dragon pulse come out of MT's crouch in Pokemon B&W 2!

It’s sad that the series kind of went by the wayside (I was SOOOOO excited for Frontier, until I actually played it and was disappointed). Thankfully though, the rather small fandom around it is SUPER dedicated. The battle style is so unique and strategic, and pulled it off a lot better than Pokémon triple battles that came after.

While I never played it, I was always interested in playing Fossil Fighters, and I honestly feel it got the Yo-Kai Watch treatment of being seen as a mediocre Pokemon rip-off when they were actually pretty well-made games with interesting battle mechanics. And also like Fossil Fighter, I hope we get a Switch sequel (or even a remake) and the eventual localization of YW4 for the Switch.

YW4 localization is already confirmed to happen. It's still somehow set for this year in spite of [current global crisis]. If you look at the release dates for the past few games 2020 is exactly when it should be too. Blasters 2 on the other hand, that one's not getting localized sadly. I wouldn't hold my breath for the YW Jam game getting localized which is a shame considering it's a school life/RPG hybrid like Persona and FE3H which are super popular over here. Also not holding my breath for the supposed localization of the Shadowside and Forever Friends movies. There was interest in localizing them but we haven't heard anything since then and considering the anime is dead over here, the odds are so very slim.

The first fossil fighters games and Champions still to this day remain as my favorite games, whenever anyone asks me, those r my responses, however, whenever anyone asks what my least favorite game is, I say fossil fighters: frontier. Not only is it disappointing compared to the previous 2 installments, I couldn’t even play it as a stand alone game, I played it for a few hours and kept tying to love it and get into it, but it sucks, reeeeeally bad. this game was such a huge part of my childhood. i used to play it on my ds and my dad would play it along with me on his ds. we would always spend so much time together trying to get every vivosaur and getting all the secret ones in post game then getting them all max level. then when frontier came out i got it and played it for maybe 20 minutes and never touched it again. it was so disappointing seeing such a memorable and lovable franchise thrown away.

In terms of the fossil gameplay, they're quite similar, but in terms of plot, battle, and character design, I feel more appealed by Spectrobes. In terms of plot both are too different and the antagonist motivation is quite different. Well. This one has a cute dinosaur waifu... So...

Nice to see people still remember Fossil Fighters lol, I actually just started a new save file for the 1st game yesterday for nostalgia. Also, yes... I died a little when I saw the first trailer for Frontier and the music started, although I still bought and played all the way through because it was part of the franchise I so dearly missed. But most of the experience was so forgettable that I don't remember much. BUT, I will say that as someone who always sticks with his starter, I do remember and did like Nibbles. He would honestly be the only thing from that game I would want to keep

It's so sad that RED got bought out. This game was my life. I actually like some of Frontier's redesigns, specifically Tricera and Mihu, along with variations from different countries and renames after famous skeletons, i.e. Sue, Stan, and Big Al. Well, now that I know that the series really is dead, I'm gonna go mourn and think up a new dinosaur RPG.

@@E4439Qv5 My point is that it really goes to show their mindset when they hyperfocus on Pokemon and not even consider the other DS mon RPG with dinosaurs in it. The footage of Frontier in this video shows that the franchise fell so far that it copied Terry from the Dinosaur King anime, how he starts off small when not in battle then grows big when his card is scanned.

I get the feeling that in addition to simplification for a younger audience, part of Frontier's problem is that it was trying to emphasize the multiplayer experience at the expense of singleplayer. For one thing, the new battle system in Frontier works better in multiplayer, since you have real people to strategize with. Also, you can't pause the game even in singleplayer. This wasn't a problem in the first two games because there were no roaming enemies (with one specific exception that I recall) and battles were turn-based and not timed, but neither of those are the case in Frontier. (The rogue Vivosaurs can even _interrupt your fossil cleaning_ which causes you to lose the fossil.)

I think I saw some advertisement for the original title back when I was a kid. But I never had the opportunity to play anyone of this title. My head was dug into Pokémon and Bakugan. But I must, admit, It looks promising, and for an strange reason, I feel nostalgic towards it. Perhaps because I remember the advertisement that was in a manual and it remembers my childhood?. I mean, the plot sounds a bit like parts of several pokemon games. But the gameplay is very different, aside from "creature fighting creature" but like you pointed out that's not an uncommon game type. I'm kinda sad that I never heard of this until now.

I guess I'm one of the lucky few that was able to enjoy Frontiers. Storytime: I played Fossil Fighters on my DS when I was 10 or so, less than a decade ago. I loved it. I had seen commercials for Frontiers on Tv and thought "Cool, a sequel!", not knowing Champions existed. I didn't get the game, though. About three years later, I picked up Fossil Fighters and loved it all over again, and wanting more, I looked up the sequel. This is where I discovered Champions and decided to get and play that first. So I did. And I loved it just like the first, fir every way it was the same, and even more for every way it had changed. Then last year, the first summer of quarantine, I go digging (hah) through my old games to find something to pass the time, and I find these two. I decided to complete them to 100% percent, and then finally finish the trilogy. Playing Frontiers was unsettling, to say the least. Not because of the driving system, I had expected that, and not because of the fossil cleaning, as that felt factually better to me, but man oh man, the battle system. For starters, swapping Air and Earth on the type wheel took some getting used to. And then there was the turn order. A far departure from the past games, but with the Speed Plus booster, felt far from inconvenient. Quite the opposite. I often found myself spamming it on my Vivosaur at the end of one round to destroy the entire opposition at the beginning of the next. I did this using the stance system, something I believe can be universally agreed as one of this game's finer points. I've the game's main and post stories, and am now left digging every fossil, and leveling every Vivosaur to max. It could be the nostalgia, it could be my own personal love and aptitude for change, but I certainly enjoy Frontiers, and I'm sorry many others could not.

I feel like Frontier would’ve been much better received if they A. kept the battle system of Champions, and B. Instead of cars, just ride the Vivosaurs. You don’t even need to sacrifice the customization of the cars. Just have different types of Vivosaurs be good at different things in the field (some can jump, some can boost, some can smash through obstacles)

Champions is what I would call the perfect sequel. It amped up the gameplay without changing the core features, it added new vivosaurs while keeping all the originals, new characters with a few returning characters, ways of upgrading your vivosaurs with special fossils, Super Evolvers, more open-world, side quests, amazing music, a genuine difficulty curve and an awesome, climatic final battle, oh my God, it's just perfect! Then Frontier happened, and this awesome game series died.

I immediately wanted to play Fossil Fighters when it showed the commercial a decade ago. Silly good story, decent graphics for a 2008 game. Music fits the themes perfectly. I'm grateful and adore this game so much. We don't want to talk about Frontier though...

I'm just now finding out so many KZbinrs like Jaden and You are talking about Fossil Fighters. And I am so happy. Fossil Fights and FF Champions were so amazing, I preferred the first one but the second one was amazing. I specifically remember having a specific favorite that I'd always aim for. Tarbosaurus. The purple, yellow, big teeth, and sail just hit for me. Hopefully we get a Nintendo Switch version but I seriously don't think we will, it feels like almost every game studio is aiming for what players don't want nowadays....oh well I still have them on DS and still occasionally replay them to this day.
