The future of MegaMan and X is with the fans in their fan games. I’m 47 and grew up with the franchise and it’s my favorite.
@the-NightStar
@the-NightStar Ай бұрын
The future of Mega Man X is soley with Capcom, and their re-releases, and nothing else. Which is easily available because Capcom has made it easily available. Fans havn't done anything except buy it. Fan games don't support official releases or the franchise. Rom sites don't support official releases or the franchise. You want to really do something worthwhile instead of just PRETENDING that you've done something worthwhile? Then buy, purchase and/or support any easily obtainable official release that Capcom has seen fit to give you. THEN you've done something that matters. THEN you've put money and resources towards benefiting the hand that sees fit to feed you in the first place. Anything else is just deluding yourself or confusing the word preservation for piracy.

@MortimurGrimm Ай бұрын
@ where did that come from, son? Who said I don’t buy the re-releases on next gen consoles? You assumed that. Why I said the future is with the fans is that regardless how well the sales are, Capcom isn’t very interested in releasing MegaMan games as they once did. The fans are releasing fun projects. Cool rant though. I agree, but maybe not jump to conclusions next time?

@nnickplays9713 I know they did Megaman 11 and heard it was pretty darn good. But that was 6 years ago. And it wasn't X. And they even screwed up later X titles when it moved to 3d. X doesn't need to be in 3d lol. Don't even get me started on Legends/DASH

@DaveMarx-te2rs I wouldn’t hate on the DASH/Legends series. While I agree with you on the later games in the X series NOT needing to be in 3D. The first MML game was great! The voice acting probably doesn’t hold up but the gameplay was fun. The sequel was also fun but the story was not nearly as memorable. The lass I say about the cancelled MML3 the better though. It takes place in an entirely different universe than the connect “Classic” series & the “X” series with Megaman Volnutt & Roll being the only connections to the “Classic” series. Same can be said with “Battle Network”, “Zero”, & “ZX” all entirely different universes not connected to the ones that started it all. You don’t have to like them but they are good games & should be respected.
@Apocalyptic_Sentinel
@Apocalyptic_Sentinel Ай бұрын
@@DaveMarx-te2rs 11 is a good game but the problem is most of the people who worked on 11 aren't even at Capcom anymore. I'd rather just remember the series for how it used to be instead of hoping for anything from modern Capcom, if they had any interest in making another game there would have been something by now 6 years later. What is irritating to me about Capcom is the amount of franchises they have that they do absolutely nothing with.

Mega Man X was the very first Mega Man game I ever played, and it was at a friend's house. It blew my mind how cool this game looked and sounded. However, back at home, my parents never got me Super Nintendo. I only had an NES. And that friend with the Super Nintendo and MMX moved away. But I had another friend who also had an NES and he had Mega Man 3 and I borrowed it from him frequently because even though MM3 looked more primitive in comparison to MMX, when I didn't have a Super Nintendo, MM3 was the closest game to MMX that I could play. And MM3 is a great game of its own. As an adult now who played every classic MM and MMX game, I could see how the original MMX was such a refreshing addition to the franchise.

I'd argue that Mega Man X is one of the biggest influencial/inspirations in gaming history, not only for gamers, but for developers themselves. And i'm talking about level design and game mechanics: X1 introduced DASH and WALL JUMP; X2 introduced AIR DASH; and X4 did DOUBLE JUMP with Zero. You can see those mechanics present in some of the bigger names in today's Metroidvanias, such as: -Celeste; -Hollow Knight; -Ori and the Blind Forest; -Ori and the Will of the Wisps; -Aeterna Noctis; -F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch; -Ender Lilies; -Afterimage: Trial of Soul. And those are just to name a few. I'm pretty sure the new Prince of Persia also has it. Anyway, the Mega Man X series remains as one of my childhood pasions, with X2 being my favorite one.😊👍

Mega Man could've been in a much better position nowaday if any of the 3 happened: 1. Inafune could've chosen to bring Mega Man 5 to the SNES back in 1992 instead of going the sub-series route altogether. which would've helped individual titles to sell better. 2. Inafune could've developed Zero 1 with the PS2 in mind, which wouldv'e pushed the series to new heights and prevented X6 and X7 from happening. OTL, Mega Man has 3 games on the PS2 and 12 games on the GBA. 3. Capcom could've approached Toys for Bob to make Skylanders a Mega Man game instead of a Spyro game. There's a chance that if Okamoto asked Arika to make Street Fighter III a 3D fighter, then Capcom would've pressured Inafune to make Zero 1 a 3D platformer in the same vein as the Legends series.

It makes me chuckle every single time I see a KZbin video gushing about how good a game is and what a tragedy it is but it will soon be unplayable, because the publisher just doesn't want to re-release it for modern hardware. It must have to do with demonetization or the algorithm punishing you for acknowledging that emulation exists. I've played megaman x on my computer with an Xbox 360 controller more than I played it on the SNES growing up. I can play any of the mega Man x games anytime I want. Though I wouldn't waste the processor power to play anything after X4.
@VGPreserve
@VGPreserve Ай бұрын
Emulation is decent for basic levels of preservation. For more widespread preservation, an official re-release is pretty much always going to be better. Emulation also only preserves the game itself and does nothing to save the box/manual or other artwork, which was the only aspect I said was somewhat at risk for MMX. I'm assuming you completely missed the part where I said that MMX had low historical risk and would not be forgotten. I don't mention that emulators exist for the game because it's pretty obvious that emulators exist for just about every game, so why have a graphic that says "Modern Preservation Efforts: Emulators" for every single game I talk about moving forward.

Edit: Yeah, X2 and X3 (unless it's the JPN version... and even so, it's starting to go up in prices) is not feasable to get for the SNES at this point, X1 is sooo common that is not very expensive overall, well, to be fair about Nintendo's digital manual for X1 is due to the SNES Classic Edition being a thing and it was their way to let players access the manual of the game.

I blame Sony pushing new discs & (more importantly) TV with time-consuming higher resolutions to process, and post-processing features and smart-tv software on top of that, onto consumers every 5 years for why big developers just don't care about input lag anymore, and will happily sacrifice input response on new and old games alike, to focus on making them into "product galleries" and "cinematic experiences".

While he did with X6, X7, & X8… He found better passion in the elseworld spin off titles like “MMZ”, “Legends”, Battle Network”, & “ZX”.

If you want to hear a bunch of kickass megaman music Sound font changes, a user by the name of Mega SFC has some amazing songs. One fave is their Megaman 7 - Wily Stage 1 (xStyle) and the other Wily Stages, and lots of the other ones they've made for other games. Also, I feel like the Sigma Stages in the Original State hits a bit harder, due to Zero dying in the first Sigma stage, thus making X be forced to tackle the entirety of Sigma's HQ all on his own. As though a "I have to slog through all of Sigma's Fortress to save humanity and if I fail, there is no one else." Whereas the PSP remake (Which I also had fun with) changes this slightly to be the 2nd to last stage for fighting Vile. The impact of Zero's death doesn't have the same weight in my opinion. You are almost at the goal post, thinking you'll tackle Sigma with Zero by your side (Maybe doing stuff in the background as it were) and then it gets taken away at the last moment. I guess that could be impactful for some. To me though, I kinda prefer the feel of how the SNES did the stages. Also, a cool Fangame Demo I would recommend would be Megaman X Innocent Impulse. I found out about it by a KZbinr by the name Dumboy Mikey. It's a fun demo & has a lot of promise from what I see. I can't recall if Megaman X or Megaman 6 was my first Megaman game. I feel like they were interchanged really. I still beat myself up over selling a lot of my NES & SNES games to Gamestop to try and get enough for half to afford a PS2 & Metal Gear Solid 2. I had the English version of Megaman X3. Thankfully, I've manages to collect all the English X games, but had to go for a Super Famicom version of X3. Also was lucky to get a copy of Megaman X signed by Keiji Inafune for what it's worth at an anime convention. Megaman as a whole from early childhood has always had a huge impact on my life. from the Old Ruby Spears Cartoon, to the games, kickass music and art. there is so much about the series as a whole, including spinoffs that have their own charm. I still wish Capcom would make a Legends 3 to rescue Rock. He's been stuck up there with Sera (if I recall) for all these years. I doubt Roll & Tron will be happy.

Great for you, sonny, I'm guessing you had some idea what the hell you were doing when you played this game. Let me tell you about my first time renting it when it came out, after loving the 6 NES ones (well half of 'em anyway.) I was unsure right away due to the size of Mega Man and the odd slow run speed with fast animation he had. I mean from the very instant I had control, it felt wrong. But I kept on, was impressed with the level destruction effects, confused by the forced loss and rescue by apparently the actual hero of this world, where I had always had that role before and no one to imitate, and I got to the stage select screen. Okay, it's weird, but not so bad, maybe after Contra, Mario, and Castlevania had evolved, Mega Man was ready to join them. But where they all enhanced their basic formulas, Mega Man felt like it sought to betray that formula at every turn. My jump was no longer high or fast enough to dodge most attacks, forcing a slower style of play, but even if it was, I didn't have nearly the amount of screen space to move around in, and it felt constricting the entire time I played it. As for the upgrades, it is explained so poorly and so vaguely in the game that I did not even interpret the dialog box as being important. It was something like "Be on the lookout for things that can help you in your quest!" which every game said some version of. It absolutely did not explain that I would HAVE to get these upgrades to even have a chance of beating the levels and bosses. By the second day of my rental period I had just about figured that part out though, as I had concluded it was simply impossible to clear a single stage or beat a boss without them, other than perhaps one easy one they tossed in. Then the problem was trying to find them with zero clues or hints, and near impossible physics challenges for others. The biggest problem, what finally broke me, was the boss fights. They used to be the star attractions of the Mega Man levels, the boss lineup was the reason you played the number you chose. Here they were just odd looking and ill defined, nothing like iconic, it was the era of random animal random verb. They used to hold contests in Nintendo Power to help come up with the new robot masters, it was a position of honor and prestige, and we were being handed garbage. Garbage with rusty, jagged spikes within. Trying to beat those bosses was perhaps the least fun I've ever had in the Mega Man franchise, Legends and Soccer included. It's just a brick wall of difficulty, with nothing compelling to see to even draw the player on, just more random theming and baby basic platforming thanks to the new sprite size. I had seen enough, and barring a very similar experience when 2 came out and I rented that out of blind love for the NES ones, I gave up on the 16 bit era of Mega Man. There were plenty of popular games that I hated, Donkey Kong Country, FF3, but those made more sense than Mega Man, which had been one of my top action franchises before. I still hate it, because we never got another NES one until 9, even 8 was more a clone of the X games than any kind of return to the past I loved. If I may use a quote I hope you'll know, "That EMP knocked out every piece of hardware, and every APU. If I were the machines, I'd send every sentinel I had over here right now. "Saved the dock" Captain?, you just handed it to them on a silver platter!"

Don't want to torture yourself? X5 was fine, certainly not awful. X8 was pretty good. As for the Switch version of Legacy collection, I think the lack of a physical version of the second volume was due to saving money on carts, since having a larger cart costs more than another blu-ray. While I get wanting to have scans of the manuals, I can't say they would fit in the PRODUCT GALLERY, since the PRODUCT GALLERY is more for merch. That said, going into the PRODUCT GALLERY mad doesn't help matters for you. In any case, though, when it comes to preservation, the majority of the people who care about that typically want just the game itself and little beyond that. That's why emulation and collections are so popular and why some people more or less consider physical media a waste of time. MMX2 having a better OST than X1? Eh... agree to disagree.

X8 is my favorite game in the series, but I wouldn't call it exceptional - it definitely has some issues, some of which are carried over from the previous games. It is pretty much objectively better than X6 and X7 though. It's mostly my favorite for reasons that matter to me more than most fans of the series - presentation, atmosphere, plot, characters, so on and so forth. Gameplay is a mixed bag, sometimes amazing, sometimes terrible. Dynasty is arguably one of the worst stages in the series, but Pitch Black is actually really fun.

Yeah I was gonna say! X6 was where the decline really set in. X5 is annoying ("Megaman, Megaman!") but still really fun to play.

@@gyppygirl2021 Bamboo's stage is actually my favorite X series stage. I do agree Dynasty is pretty bad, though.

Mega Man X was the first game in Mega Man series to be actually playable and enjoyable. NES Mega Man games were rubbish, given insane difficulty, pixel perfect jumps, easy one hit deaths, and few power up drops. At least those I played.

I wouldn’t call them rubbish… They required practice in some instances. Remember the design aspect of these levels were to keep you playing & not just beat the game and forget about it. Blockbuster thrived on that stuff back then lol!

@@spenserbeckerszs i do know that is the excuse they used for poor gameplay. What good is a game if it is not meant to be enjoyed? Because they clearly were not made for player to have fun and enjoy, given their design. If anything, the Mega Man titles have only succeeded in keeping me away from the franchise. Meaning.. what they wanted for a player to do with the game has failed in all accounts. Didn't enjoy it, lost interest pretty quick (even tho I tried real hard liking it), and don't want anything to do with the franchise. Aesthetics, sounds, and musics are brilliant, but they don't make up for the shitty gameplay. Mega Man X series, however, changed all that. Almost all of them are great AND enjoyable.

Megaman X is not coming back bro. Kids only play fortnite now days. Any game thats spiritual and deep is considered not cool and for boomers by the youth. Megaman was great in its time and should not be continued unless there geniune demand and passion for the project. Capcom killed the series after X4 making progressively worse X games.

Bubsy 3D won the Gold X award after all. Mega Man X couldn't even win the Gold X award? It's literally got "X" in the name. I might sound like a hypocrite here, but I think I agree with you...

all capcom needs to do is just sell the rights to inticreates and megaman will be in the best possible spot. capcom hasn't made a good megaman game since MMX 2 (sorry mmx fans, 3~8 are trash.) basically every inticreates megaman is pure gold (mmz 1~4, zx, zx advent, mm9, mmx, the entire gunvolt series)
