It puts a smile on my face to see someone else put some respect on X2 as much as you did. I have similar experiences, although my brother recalls the family renting X2 when we were kids. Kind of fuzzy on that, although that could be why I prefer this game in the SNES Trilogy the most. This to me is the game that keeps on giving, with the sense of speed, the gameplay, more freedom of choice- you name it. Though I have retired from playing video games for almost two years now, this is one I will always have the most fond memories of.

Wheel Gator becomes a nightmare if you use his weakness. It's much more doable with the X-Buster, and if you get good RNG he'll keep throwing wheels at you instead of submerging all the time. My favourite X game because of that kick ass double X-Buster, the best in the series imo.
@RafaelMelo-u4yАй бұрын
I have to disagree i have no problem at all in beating him with the correct weapon. Since he is the first boss to choose from because does take a while to beat him with the buster even with the charged shot.
@RoninCatholic15 күн бұрын
One detail I immediately picked up on when I was seven and playing this for the first time: The maximum X-Buster charge in this game has bits of pink accent in it, which I interpreted as the pink from the fully charged buster in X1 being integrated into the charge technically a step lower. Just because X is no longer visually wearing the parts of his previous armor upgrades doesn't mean they're gone and forgotten (as also shown with his dash remaining on his blue legs).
@EnclaveunitedАй бұрын
Agreed with everything you said in this video, but I recommend you try fighting Wheel Gator without his weakness. It's WAY easier because when he comes out of the water he just stands there and you get a ton of free hits on him except for his occasional dash attack. But yeah his boss is still kinda shitty. And for that matter I think all the bosses in X2 are way more fun without their weaknesses, since they all have crazy Spark Mandrill syndrome. (Unless you're speed running through the boss rush like me)

If your fast enough you can basically stun loop him with his weakness like they do in speed runs, but often it's best to just shoot him till he is about to go back under then get as many stun loops in as you can before climbing that wall.

Well you can try to beat Gator without the correct weapon. Since he is the first boss choose from. And you can beat him very fast when you have to fight him again. And you don't have to worry about his attacks at all or getting hit.

Another thing to note with megaman X1 and 2: If you dash and shoot at the same time, a normal plasma pellet it registers as a charge shot hit. So I just spammed that. Additionally, when doing so, the dash becomes canceable.

@GTA2SWcityАй бұрын
This was actually my introduction to the MM franchise as a whole, not just the X series. I remember how I struggled to win at this game and do it the best way I could. It was the mid 90s. A friend trade-borrowed this game and I got to play X1. I had a bit of trouble with that one, or at least beating Sigma. This one I hadn't gotten too far in on it initially. Even after all these years, the music, the aesthetic artwork, the gameplay. Still takes me back. A naive kid I didn't know quite what all the talk was about (Zero) but every part of this game has the memory of first discovery. Later on I did beat X1. Deepening the understanding. I did have a sort of premonition dream that Zero was to die again and it gave me a timeframe that from that point had me estimating around 2000 to 2001. Then I played through X3 and beat it seeing the epilogue. It all ended up being a dropped story arc. But I always found it a bit odd I'd tapped into the story in my subconscious. In retrospect, I think it needs a new story, but a similar one perhaps. The overall story objectively leaves something to be desired but at this point in X2 they were still working on it. I need to get the book where Inafune and others talk about the storyline plans because supposedly this was more or less the plan all along. Which gives it something of a Terminator Judgment Day vibe. The more I look back on this particular game, however, the more finely it has aged. Just for what it is, not anything else, nostalgia, story, etc. Now I look at all the crazy things (ROMhacks?) that have been done with X2. Like the comically overpowered ultimate armor mod. Or the X3 Zero gameplay mechanics. I realize I date myself when I say this but: I have loved this game almost as long as it's been around. And I think the various other franchises have made their nods or crative borrowings, this one is no exception. Personally I'm of the opinion X2 influenced Terminator Genisys.

In beating Sigma you need to know how to use both the correct weapons in each one.

Mega Man X2 was an incredible sequel. The music is just as amazing as the first one and the Mavericks are so unique from one another. It's really hard for me to choose which one is my favorite boss, though Overdrive Ostrich, Magna Centipede, and Wheel Gator are great containers (the last one's theme I made a recent metal cover of and it's funny that he took that 1% out of perfection for you haha) but all the themes are so interesting in this game. It's interesting that you like Magna Centipede's theme because I was thinking of making that one my second X2 cover. Anyway, great video. Love seeing more Mega Man X content

The music isnt as good as the first one. I love the game,but x3 has better music and better looking bosses. Id argue that x2 is better balanced than x3. The air dash is fantastic...but x is still the best x game. Id argue that x is the best mega man game, at the very least up there with MM3 and slightly behind 2.
@stephenschaffenberger6765Ай бұрын
@@Bigbudd0045 I've always thought the music in X2 sounded "cheap" in comparison to X1. My theory is that the game designers sacrificed musical storage space in favor of the wire frame model graphical gimmicks. The sound palette in X1 is just so much more dynamic and well considered. X2 music relies too heavily on that electric lead guitar sample giving a lot of the songs a very samey quality. It's a shame because X1 has one of the best OST's on the entire system.
@TheJadeFistАй бұрын
If you want a physical copy, you could consider simply importing a Super Famicom and the NTSC-J version of the game, it'll still be cheaper than the loose NSTC cart by itself. I haven't really looked at prices recently, but a couple years back I bought X2 and X3 for 20 bucks each that way.

Fun game to try with Wheel Gator is to not use the wall climb at all, dash and jump, and he comes out far more often(and you'll probably be caught most of the times while learning how to dodge him) but i think it'll fix your 1 gripe with the game. Also the Flame wheel gives you 2 additional air dashes, Air dash, flame dash, and you can use another air dash right after.
@RafaelMelo-u4yАй бұрын
Well with Gator the trick is you can use the walls but don't stay too close to the bottom. Because once he jumps and starts spinning. He will damage the part that he hits. So if he does that very near to the bottom you will have to jump higher. In order to avoid the damage part.

Also, this game seemed to have a much brighter color palette than the other games in the X series. Look at how bright the color schemes are for the boss weapons! Still have my X2 SNES cartridge! It's one of only three Mega Man games I've beaten without taking a hit. I advise against beating the x hunters though. Zero's fight is just patter memorization. You do need to be pretty tight on your timing but his pattern is super predictable, and it's ultimately faster to beat one boss than three. Also I start on Wheel Gator, since wiht a precise jump you can get the arm parts without the leg parts or strike chain. It's pixel-perfect timing since you have to take advantage of the screen shake to buy you a couple extra pixels off jump lenght, and that's one jump it might take me 20 tries, but eventually you can just sort of catch that little wall with X's face and wall-jump up to the gun. That's also how I realized that time passes in Wheel Gator's stage. If you spend forever and a day in that stage, it turns from day to night.

Unfortunately I lost the passwords I took down as proof at the time. No way I could do it now with carpal tunnel and mild thumb arthritis.

X2 is easily my favorite Mega Man game overall - not just the X series, but the whole thing. I consider it borderline-perfect (my only issues are that the uncharged Speed Burner is very niche, the bike should either be in more than one level or not appear at all, and Violen's second fight is a bit underwhelming). Also the Head Armor is useless nowadays thanks to the internet, but that's not the developers' fault - there's no way they could have seen that coming when making the game (plus you could always just choose to not use the internet). Compared to X1 and X3, I think X2 looks and sounds better, has better bosses, and has better designed levels (plus better basic enemies than X3). More objectively, it has the best weapon balance of any SNES Mega Man X game (X1 is busted wide-open by the Fire, Ice, and especially the Tornado, while X3's weapons are largely redundant with each other, almost all of them dealing high damage while having an awkward hitbox or some other restriction), while it's optional boss system is better communicated to the player than X3's (and X1 doesn't have one). PLUS it's the only one of the three where getting 100% doesn't require any backtracking - in X1, you HAVE to do Boomer Kuwanger's level twice (and basically to the end!), and in X3, you HAVE to do Tunnel Rhino's level twice (though not very far in), and even excluding that, a lot of the upgrades are gated behind the Drill weapon just in general.

I don't think the Gator is thaaaat bad but, I get it. You can in theory semi quick kill him, but it's like frame perfect timing on the shots otherwise he just dives back into the oil. Honestly I think the Snail is way more annoying and worse in terms of dragging the fight out making you wait. The snail literally induces lag into the game, as his power, or if he hits you, you get turned into a crystal, even his weakness is slow to try to hit him with it and then you gotta keep the shell away from him, which I always say screw it and just use buster on him.

Normally I would not comment on the whole preservation thing as the game itself is easily found in rom form online.That said, the physical carts are another monster altogether. Speaking from experience nearly 1 in 20 or so snes carts are degraded to the point where the games no longer function and this seems to be even more extreme when the FX chip is involved. I have come across probably half a dozen "Bitrot" Starfox carts in the last decade or so and at least 1 entirely fucked copy of MMX 3(much to my dismay). I have a feeling in my lifetime that this will just continue to be the case as time goes on. Also, yeah the gator can go get fucked >.>(hes also the biggest pain in the ass for speed runners as well lol)
@VGPreserveАй бұрын
Yes emulation has its place for sure in keeping games alive especially once all the carts die out (even if that's in another lifetime). My whole thing about preserving physical media is delaying the inevitable degradation of these carts. Great insight though from you in noting that games like Starfox seem to suffer a lot from degradation.

I just went back to the NES ones, they're more fun anyway and I never asked for a story of any kind beyond the intro text scroll in Mega Man. Even now in my 40's, I hate Mega Man X, and all it represented for the franchise, the beginning of the end. But I guess I should be saying that on the video for 1, which I despise far more than this game. Unpopular opinon but... Megaman x3 is better than x2.

That’s cool that you like it! I did a video on X3 a while back, I have a new found appreciation for it after making that vid. X2 still my favorite though.

Correct opinion. Better music, better bosses, double the armor upgrades, collectable ride armor, and playable zero.
@3lgat097Ай бұрын
Yup totally agree. X3 music is fantastic and the bosses and final stages are all better than x2. I never get the Hype for X2.

I enjoy X3 more than X2. But both are still great games!

I think X2 is a better game but I like X3 more

Gator is super easy, what are you talking about?
@3lgat097Ай бұрын
It is overhyped and X3 in my opinion is the better sequel. Music isnt even close to X1 and X3

This was my first mega man game I played. I was in second grade and remember renting it from blockbuster. I remember it being my first mega man game because I thought you play as the mavericks you pick. Anyways, I somehow beat it at that age, thought it was revolutionary, propelled me to play the other MM games and it definitely is still the best of X series to this day.

X is still better, but x2 is amazing.

The biggest issue I had as a kid that I don’t ever see anybody talking about is that explosions when you defeat a maverick are blue. What the heck?
@robmoore3176Ай бұрын
Was expecting for the issue to be the final stage. Was prepared to talk about LTTP and SM having you literally replay the entire time (overworld) non-stop and people don't talk about that when discussing those games, perhaps some people who dislike SM would discuss all the long backtracking, but whatever. That's it, that's the only flaw in mmx2, it's an actual perfect game.

The x2 haters in the comments are wild 😂😂 also I'm curious, how long have you tried the wire chain loop on wheel gator? I know you said it was hard for you but I bet just a few minutes of practice would be enough to get it down. The timing isn't very strict, I just think initially catching him is harder than actually looping him. It usually takes me a few tries so I'm not gonna act like it's easy and you already said you were rusty
@VGPreserveАй бұрын
Yeah I gotta practice it more. Even at my peak of playing the game I couldn't do it too well, but I can just cop out and blame that on the PS2 collection having lag or whatever haha!
@jerppursh7570Ай бұрын
@VGPreserve lmao yeah I learned it on ps4 cuz my ps2 controller is oollllddd and not very good anymore

I could easily charge, dash jump around and wall jump with ease and I didn't press forward forward to dash, I was an A presser on the SNES. My trick was I would just use the tip of my thumb to constantly shoot and charge and the bottom of my thumb to jump. And to press the A button, I literally used my fore finger and curled up on to the top of the controller. It looked like a weird claw finger and my best friend would make comments about it while I was playing. Anyway, I was an absolute beast, using this method and was able to beat MegamanX in about 34-35 minutes, with everything, including Hadouken😊

I purchased X2 on steam at the end of last year and the game has aged poorly and in my opinion not really fun to play

X2 is the best of the 3 mega man games on the SNES
