I really believe X6 was the worst Mega Man game. I played through X7 over 10 times in order to level up each of the characters and unlock everything. I started with leveling up Zero to get his Raijinshou special attack and then spam my way through the game. Then I leveled up Axl’s EXPLOSION. Then I level up X. Once you’ve beaten X7 twice, the game gets much easier. I can play through it over and over without much issue till I get to Red. I played through X8 over 12 times in a row to level up every character, unlock all Zero’s weapons and unlock the female characters. Once you beat X8 3 times, the game is muscle memory. It’s a cake walk. X7 and X8 are my MOST PLAYED Mega Man games. I give X7 a C- and X8 a B-. X6 however is really really bad on a level that makes it harder to play through than X7 and more frustrating. Bad camera angles, bad movement physics, bad controls … it’s really really bad. The music in X6 is good but a lot of the graphics scream “unfinished “ or “bad”. I do like Gate’s Lab and the Boss Rush as a final stage, but it only works if you have the Shadow Armor and even then you’ll probably get stuck in Gate’s Lab 2 at the “leap of faith” which will probably force you to go back to the beginning and use the 4th armor so you can have the Nova Strike to clear this part. It really feels like X6 and X7 weren’t properly play tested and repaired but X6 stands out as a worse play through experience.

Oh, I'm in full agreement that X6 is horrible. I just think it's a little less horrible than X7. But at that point, I really don't think either of them is worth playing unless someone's a diehard MMX fan and even then I wouldn't bother playing them more than once.

@@FiresideGamingReviews I am 42 years old. I started playing mega man games in December 2022. I bought the legacy collections and the ZX Legacy collection. I played through these games in order from MegaMan one onwards to 11. Then I played through all of the X games, and then I played through ZX and ZX advent. I felt it necessary not to skip any of the main games because I needed to understand what the entire history was all about. It’s better not to look at these as games, but to look at them as chapters in a very large book. After all: they are telling a very long story that spans over thousands of years. Ultimately, the problem that they had was how to make new Megaman games without the critics, criticizing them, or not doing anything new or not bringing anything new to the table. Megaman X7 was an example of them trying something new and not doing very well at it. Better that they try something new and fail then to create a game like X6 which should have been up by the numbers addition but was horribly presented.

@@PassportBrosBusinessClass Good on you for really digging into the Mega Man series. And I mean that in earnest. I'm hoping there's a Legends Collection next because it sounds like you might really enjoy those games as well and the continuation of the story. You are the kind of player that I get wanting to play through each of the games. I'm the same way where I almost always like to start at the beginning to see how the story progresses and the games evolve over time. But I also believe in personal sunsets for series. Which is to say I think there often comes a time when a series changes so much from where it started, or has declined in quality, to a point that I don't know if it's worth playing anymore. That's something I keep in mind with my reviews. If it wasn't for playing games for this channel, I probably wouldn't have beaten X6 and X7 and would just let my MMX experience end at X5. That's actually what I did back when these games were coming out, moving on to the Zero series after X5 because of the bull in X6. Also, if long intricate stories are your thing, I highly advise checking out the Metal Gear Solid series if you haven't already.

You... do you know what you just did to me (you're going to laugh)?! A little background is needed first. When I'm driving at night by myself, I often listen to podcasts or play KZbin videos. I connect my phone to my system in my car and set it in my center console (so I'm not tempted to watch the screen). Here I am driving and listening to your take on Mega Man X7 when you start talking about a certain boss with bad music/sound. Then, you play it for us. I have two Alpine 10-inch woofers and tweeters in my car. I thought I was under attack by Jurassic Park. The entire park from all the films decided it wanted to kill me and my Challenger all at once. I ripped the phone out of my console and just powered the damn thing off. Then I had to park for a few seconds because I could not stop laughing, you son of a.... that was good.

Yay! The worst one! X8 gets better. Way better imo. Just don’t expect to 100% it in your first playthrough. It’s more fun to 100% it while replaying it via NG+. And didn’t Xtreme 2 add the multiple characters in one mission thing? Wouldn’t it be accurate to say it returns in X7?

I completely forgot about that being a feature in Xtreme 2. Thanks for the reminder! I'll keep in mind NG+ when playing X8 as well.

It's def not the worst one. X6 is absolutely broken X8 is a bit overrated. The good part is that it's more 2d. The bad part is that it seems to hate level design. It might be equal to 7 or slightly better. I'd say 8 is more frustrating than 7. Most of the frustration with 7 is minor or optional. 8 it's in the main path, and optional stuff. There's two speed bike levels. And they're as bad or worst than in 7. Or almost.

@@DSan-kl2yc bro 7 is way fucking worse than 6 what are you on about? The controls in movement in 6 at least feel good due to being based off 4 and 5 but 7’s gameplay is just…. Extremely sluggish in comparison. X6 is a bad game, but at it’s core it’s fun. X7 is just rotten to the core.

To me, games that come out for a popular brand franchise stories have to earn my respect and logic so I can accept whatever narrative they want to input as part of lore and “canon” Just cause a game makes references, and or does the bare minimum of connections to previous games does not make me just accept it as “canon” (More so when new and different writers are brought in) Pokémon, Sonic, Star Wars, Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil, and yes Megaman all have a problem with this (Some more than average)

I completely get where you're coming from. Capcom's push to keep the MMX series going after X5 creates a lot of story problems. It's why I do personal sunsets for series once I feel they've lost their way or just outstayed their welcome.

@@FiresideGamingReviews Eh, X5 in of itself has it's own story issues and doesn't resolve several things (such as the newly introduced cast barely existing or the implications of Wily being there in some form)
@FiresideGamingReviews11 ай бұрын
Introducing new characters doesn't create any story issues though. As for Willy, we know he's been around since X2. I never expected or needed an explanation for him existing just like I don't need an explanation about Light living on through his capsules. So I don't believe it falls on X5, or any X game, to resolve that.
@marx453811 ай бұрын
@@FiresideGamingReviews I mean, I suppose it doesn't, but what's the point of doing so if they're not developed? X5's nature as a finale is oddly conflicting when there's a whole new cast and the Repliforce case still kicking, while on the other literal apocalypse is about to happen and the entire thing is set to be wrapped up. Eh, fair enough, but it's still odd to see Sigma imply that Wily helped him out with what he did in X5 and potentially had his own stake in the matter (judging by what something resembling Wily says in the bad ending, Awakened Zero cutscene) just for Sigma to die and Wily to seemingly disappear without any fanfare or explanation why he was there in the first place.
@FiresideGamingReviews11 ай бұрын
It just comes down to many characters being one offs. If we had never gotten another game after X5, I just would've assumed that the new Maverick Hunters we're just going to show up for that game. And it's not as if Capcom hasn't just dropped characters with no explanation before, like how Cain just stops existing after X3. It's one of the reasons I wish the remakes would've continued. I've always wondered if an attempt to bring more closure to the series wasn't planned for them.
