It's finally time to finish off the mainline Mega Man X series with a dive into X8. I've got a full breakdown of the gameplay, story, voice acting and more ready to go for Mega Man fans in my longest video yet covering the franchise!

I can’t believe I missed this review when it released. X8 is a permanent favorite of mine. I can always comeback to it for a good time, especially on New game plus. Unlocking Alia, Layer and Pallete as playable characters is one of the coolest unlocks I’ve seen. Also I love that Sigma is FINALLY not the final boss, and having HIM being manipulated is so cool I know a lot of people have a problem with X8’s 100%, but New Game+ exists for a reason. X8 is a game you 100% across multiple issues, but I can understand why people wouldn’t like that.

I probably wouldn't have minded getting 100% if I'd played X8 back when it came out. I tended to do that more with games because I had less of them to play. And I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually. But, yeah, I was surprised just how good this game is. And I will cover Maverick Hunter X. The plan is to do Command Mission next then finish up the series with Maverick Hunter.

Also, I have to disagree on the whole timeline thing. X8 and the whole evolution thing really feels like a great thematic tie-in to the zero series, speaking of zero, are you going to cover that series eventually?

Lol. It's all good. And I do plan to cover Zero and ZX eventually but not right after X. Instead I'm thinking of diverting to the Legends series and then maybe Classic after that while still sprinkling in some Battle Network reviews along the way.

And Axl locking into place when shooting, even on the ground, is one of my criticisms towards the game. If Nintendo could get Samus to fire her arm cannon while moving in Super Metroid, then Capcom could do the same for Axl in X8. They just chose not to and decided if it worked for Bass, it'll work just fine for Axl, but it didn't, and this is because the game loves its autoscrollers as much as I love Dr. Pepper and its cheap enemy placements as much as X6.

X8 is one of them that I keep coming back to only behind 1 and 6! Would definitely recommend making use of the cheats to add the navigators to the shop from the get go. Even then it's such a grind to afford them. :s Definitely agree with what you said on the designs when compared to Iris.

I didn't even know there were cheats for them! At least the game is fun enough that I know I'll get enough metals eventually.

Imma be real, I never felt any satisfaction out of fighting the Mavericks in X8 aside from Gravity Antonion. He's the only one that felt genuinely challenging, I am not happy with how they handled the rest. Edit: Also, hard disagree with the voice acting, especially with Zero. I always saw Zero as one who would never let his emotions dictate his actions, as the most serious of all three Maverick Hunters, but in X8 there are two times where he lets his emotions seep through, both are in moments where the events of X5 are mentioned. I don't hate how they handled the voice acting of X, Axl, and the navigators, but with Zero, Sigma, the Mavericks themselves, Vile, and Lumine, they could've done so much better.

Dang, feels like we played two different games. But to each their own. Like how I'm a hard X5 defender even though it doesn't have the best reputation.
