Oh yeah, the Gundam Battle games from the PSP, that’s the good stuffs. It’s part of a series of 4 games, this one here is the third one. The 4th and last one is called Gundam Battle Universe, and features a lot more MS, up to Char’s Counterattack, and side UC stuffs as well like Gundam Sentinel, F91 and Hathaway’s Flash (the novel version from 1989). I played these PSP Gundam games recently when iOS finally got official access to emulators earlier this year, and it’s great fun.

Just to add a little more info, the game offers to turn on and off a filter (in my opinion, it blurs everything into a messy image, so turn it off) and a not so great scanline effect (off, 50% and 100%) that even though is a far cry from a real scanline generator, the game looks better with it on, at least for someone like me who grew up in the arcades.

I have a weird type of respect for you for buying this game when you didn't own the console for it. There's something so 2000s raw about it that touches my cold dead heart. I'm from the UK so it was Digimon World 2003 to us, I loved this game. Most games of this time that were not popular as video game franchises were always a gamble. I think this was a good gamble. There's few games from this era I go back to.
@FiresideGamingReviews14 күн бұрын
Lol. 2000s we're a wild time for game buying. I'm sure you remember but reviews and media coverage had a much smaller effect on what games people bought. There were more consumers (myself included) willing to risk buying random games. Without it the "cult classic" game has kind of disappeared, unfortunately.

What about the input lag? I want to buy the game but I'm afraid because many people say the input lags too much
@FiresideGamingReviews14 күн бұрын
I didn't have any issues. But to be fair, most people compare these ports to the arcade versions. I haven't played those as the Anthology collection was my first exposure to the series, and many claim it has input lag as well.
@aoiseirya55014 күн бұрын
@@FiresideGamingReviews When I was a kid, I didn't feel the input lag when playing on PS2. But some time ago, I tried playing it on the emulator and I really felt the lag. Well it's just 1.5 USD i might give it a try.

I understand that. I can't play the SNES Mega Man X games on the new collections because of the input lag. You can always refund if you start playing and the lag is too bad.

It seems you made the mistake of raising the 3 Digimon at the same time (happen to me on my first playthrough), the game is much more easier and less grindy if you only level up one.
@FiresideGamingReviews28 күн бұрын
True. But I wouldn't call it a mistake for players to do that as its what the game suggests is the right way to play. Rather, its an issue with the game design that playing with just one is easier.

I do the same thing with naming characters in FF games. Those names are just set in stone for me at this point. Such a shame my favourites FF5 and FF8 only lets you rename 1/2 characters. :'(
@FiresideGamingReviews28 күн бұрын
For me it's really a thing in FF1 since they don't have preset names. Might do it in 3 as well. Also, good taste. FFV is my personal favorite.

@@FiresideGamingReviews Any thoughts on the Labyrinth of Time or the other optional places in the PSP version btw? Chronodia is an interesting super boss design and fits well with the themes of time travel even if the dungeon itself can be a real headache for a completionist.
@FiresideGamingReviews27 күн бұрын
@FinalFrantasy I see it all as wasted potential. There was a real chance to do something cool there with the lore of FF1 and themes of the dungeon and Chronodia but SE dropped the ball. It reminds me of all the bonus content in Chrono Trigger DS. It's a bunch of annoying busy work but at least that had a good payoff. I wish FF1's bonus stuff would've been similar to Soul of Rebirth or After Years in actually having a solid addition to story and lore.

As for the Kanto section. I always imagined the gym leaders had a "challenger" team as well. Like new or inexperienced trainers deal with their B team and after so many badges, they start using their heavy hitters from A squad. Then they got their "I'm filling in for this elite 4 member today team."
@FiresideGamingReviews29 күн бұрын
I like this idea a lot! It would be cool to see a Pokemon game that let players choose their starting town and run through the gyms in different orders with this in mind.

I remember buying DBZ: Legendary Super Warriors at Wal-Mart in 2003, but I didn't hear about it during 2002 at all. I wasn't expecting the video game to feature card playing, that part of somewhat disappointing. I played story mode about four times as well as the additional characters and villains until summer 2004, when I put the game away for good. I thought it was a little weird that they used some dialogue from the manga, instead of the anime. After beating story mode for a third time, I thought the game would allow you to play the Future Trunks story mode, but that never happened. Thank you for the great review.

I love how you talk about mentioning your characters after friends. I do this for the Worms series of games. I left Europe for Japan over a decade ago, so haven't seen some of my friends for that long, though we still message each other. Having the name of my friends on game characters gives me the same feeling as you do Billum, about feeling closer again, etc. In fact, on of my closest friends died of a illness many years back. But he lives on as a Worm soldier, and he will do until the day I die.

FFTA is my most favorite tactics game by a long shot. I did work through the 300+ missions including the Judge Cid missions and somehow never felt bored. The gameplay wasn't opaque like FFT and yet really punched above its age rating by telling these relatable stories of children coping with broken families. I even loved the yellow/red card mechanics, although I wish there was a warning before taking a red-card action, as I had far too many instant game-overs for dumb reasons.

The BEST feature this game has is the fact that units keep the class abilities after they switch classes. I had a mean warrior/mage build that would wreck.

i totally loved the game series back then :) i was very into anime and RPGs and when i read a magazine review of it i had to get it and boy i liked it :D the whole "anime movie plus game" was awesome even if i couldn't watch the series before (.haack//sign) and it really wasn't required (unlike for .hack//GU i feel). I actually didn't know that an anime series existed (i don't think that the series was shown on German TV) but again i really didn't care since i loved the "kinda MMO" game and all the story. Until now i never did get the 100 % completion of the last game (to get the final ending). Also while i liked it that you could use the japanese voices.... it was weird that you only could use that AFTEr you finished the game :( Sadly .hack//GU remaster was a little bit butchered since they increased the EXP gain making grinding or "side story stuff" quite irrelevant since you easily got overlevelled. I also got some starter decks of the .hack//enemy card game which is also kinda neat. I also found it funny when at the beginnig they try to read the german text...and while it's good the way they pronounced it and put emphasis on some words made it sooo bad xD

Ivalice exists as a support for these kids to avoid despair. Despair that can be solved if they face reality and get over their insecurities. Ivalice also takes away any incentive from them to face reality as it solves their problems. Which means they dont have to face reality, making them more and more dependent on the illusion. The only way to develop their character is to make them understand their own flaws(what Marche does) and have them change themselves. At that point Ivalice becomes unnecessary as they have gotten over their issues. "desire is the thread that binds this world together" Since they have gotten over their issues, they no longer desperately desire Ivalice, causing an auto shut down. Its classic eastern storytelling.
