As a woman retired hair dresser who worked with barbers in NY. For many years, You did a beautiful job. I learned a little more from you with the blending of the fade. I guess it's more patience and little at a time. As far as the top you did a great job. Don't under estimate yourself because the gift you have is that you understand hair and its behavior. That is the hardest thing for any barber or hairdresser. You can see the results before you actually cut. That's what makes you a great barber/hairdresser. I learned on my own in the 70s how to cut hair 10yrs later went to school for cosmetology. I was very good at it because I learned how to fix my own mistakes making me understand hair and it's behavior. Some hairdressers or barbers never master that so that's why I'm sure when you're out there you can see many people and in your mind you wish you can correct their haircut or make it better 😄. Some may never notice those errors. I left the business after 20yrs and went to college and became a special ed teacher and retired after 20yrs. It gave me the opportunity to help parents who have mentally disabled children who barbers won't touch or understand the children. So it was a blessing for me to give back. You should be proud of your great work. Set up a retirement fund for yourself because this business takes a toll on your body being in your feet all day. You want to have have a nice nest egg for your retirement. Just a little advice from a retirement hairdresser/school teacher from NY now living in Florida. Oh one more I got 2 shih tzus 9 yrs. ago. I didn't like how nervous they got back from the groomer. I tried grooming them it was a lot harder than people so I took a night grooming program and got 200 hrs in dog grooming and because of my real understanding of hair I do their faces beautiful. I wish I could upload their pucture. I did it for my dogs but it's a lot harder to groom a dog than a person. You make more money working on people. I enjoy it as a hobby now. I wish you all the best. One day try to groom a dog for fun. I wish you all the best especially now that you're helping the homeless. God bless you and stay safe.🙏🙏🗽💇‍♀️💇‍♂️

Fade on point! Normally when I cut fohawks I cut a vertical guide down the middle and then take about 2 to 3 vertical sections on each side at a 90 degree angle and then I’ll over direct it to the ear a little. When it’s finished it’ll go up in a A shape the more you over direct the more drastic the peak will be. Love love love this channel! Keep on cutting ❤️

I'm a stylist. A lot of times we get these "crossover" hairstyles where it's half barbering half stylist. Depending on the method you were taught to cut you can do the top a couple different ways. We would do the fade exactly as you did parting the top out. Then set the guide from the back up. You could cut this at a 90 degree angle slowly increasing length or over direct the front to the back. Just preference there. Then instead of rounding the side into the top, when you make your vertical sections you take the longest piece (your guide) and the shortest from the fade and cut a direct line instead of rounding to create that point in the apex. And just be careful not to remove the length from the over directing on your guide. And I usually do finish off the bangs as you did by bringing them down making sure the angle is right and then bringing it up and point cutting the edges. Also with cuts like this it's all about texture, so tons of point cutting (you nailed by the way) and a thinning shear goes a long way as it takes the bulk out of the heavy, thick hair without affecting the shape of the cut and it allows the styling product to do its job unhindered by the weight of the hair. But you did a great job. I always struggle with barbering cuts and really getting it clean and precise and I think a lot of it has to do with different tools at our disposal to really finish things off well. If you are going to do these cuts often I would highly recommend investing in a fine tooth thinning shear as well. You did great though and I love that you showed your learning process. Cutting hair is an art form and a good stylist/barber never stops seeking education to perfect their craft! Keep up the good work! ❤👍

These are the kind of videos us stylists need to be posting!! This is real and raw. I have been here so many times. I’ve felt that exact same way. Not knowing how to go about something and you feel lost af lol. You did an amazing job for winging it. The best thing you can ever do is ask questions cause that’s how you learn. Great job seriously

You did a good job with the top. I would recommend if you know a cosmetologist that works on men’s cut. Ask them if they can show you different ways to cut length. I have taught a lot of my barber friends how to cut the top of the hair and techniques on texturizing. You just have to know the basics and after that ... we are all winging it lol

That’s really refreshing and so genuine of you to admit to the client that you needed more time and also to tell us that you did this and asked for help just to make sure the client was getting what he wanted. In my opinion that makes s great hairstylist ( not sure what you call yourself these days) but that’s cool of you

I liked that you actually cared about making making it perfect for the client, most barbers that I know wouldn’t say that.. 👍🏼 that fact that you own up to not knowing how to do something but willing to learn that’s dope, especially making the hair cut free.. I respect that. I need to meet more barbers like you.

I like how you had a hard time doing something so u ask for help. In this industry everyone wants to do it on their own and they be struggling. I rather someone ask if they can’t. That way the client is happy
