I saw It Comes at Night. I liked it a lot. I thought, just like Frank said, it's like a chapter or two out of a book about a post apocalyptic world. It tells a short story of something that happens in this world. It doesn't explain further. I'd LIKE to know further, but I think it'd turn into a movie that was different than what it was trying to be. It's got great tension, it's got characters that make actual human decisions, and it is shot VERY well. The only thing that I'd say I didn't like about it, is that it acts like it's going to show you more, and it doesn't. It shouldn't have done that. The advertising of the movie had a line where the father character is explaining the three rules "1. The door stays closed at night. 2. I have the only key and 3. No one goes out at night" The thing is. "no one goes out at night" is NOT even in the fucking movie. That line was completely fabricated for the trailer. Then the title. Awful title. It makes you think that something happens at night, or that something is coming out. That's just simply not the case. Something unexplainable happened one night, but it wasn't because it was night, it just happened. So fuck the title of that movie. Outside of that, I feel like it was better than most modern suspense/horror films. It left me with a lot of questions, but I like that about it.
@spencerjames35517 жыл бұрын
mkhpsyco Totally with you on everything you've said. I think it was a good, if not great, movie that didn't really tell all since it didn't have to. Instead, it gives you just enough to stay intrigued. The characters are the same way. It tells you just enough about the characters to stay invested. Derrick says that the story needed to go somewhere and get interesting, which I completely understand. This is a pretty barebones movie without much of a complicated plot. But, it does what a lot of my favorite horror does. It uses the threat of outside danger (in this case the disease) to have characters start doubting each other and butting heads. And ultimately that's where a lot of the action stems from. Reminded me of The Thing or Night of the Living Dead in that way.
@mkhpsyco7 жыл бұрын
The Thing is DEFINITELY the feeling I got at the end of the movie. There's a moment during the movie where I didn't know who was going to make it out, who was right, who was being paranoid, and what was going to go down. That's my favorite thing about The Thing. Like you said, the only difference, is that this is dealing with a disease. Which is an invisible enemy. There is definitely more to this world, and my mind was reeling afterwards. I wanted to know more, but that's the sign of a good movie to me. Giving me just enough intrigue. But yeah, I'm not surprised, and much like Frank said, it's entirely ok that some didn't like the movie. It definitely doesn't hit the regular marks of most popular films of the same genre.

He likes certain good/more obscure games, but imo it seems like his taste is stuck between deciding he likes meme shit like Skyrim, but at the same time disliking most AAA games. Like, he talks about how great Skyrim is and how all these unrelated games are like or should be like Skyrim without realizing that Skyrim is just as bad as all those other games he complains about.

I think it depends on what kinds of games you like. We are in the golden age of esports and story driven games and strategy games are getting really good as well. We are entering on the age of VR 2008 to 2012 was like the golden age of shooters and rpgs Silent hill and early resident was the survival horror era Later 90s early 2000s was the best of strategy So I think if you don't like the types of games that are good it won't work

2022 and I start to feel the same way as derrick. I gave AAA games little to no interest because nowadays its just a shell of its formers selves, but indie games and some small portion of AA's turns me on. Majority of indie games nowadays really reminds me of ps1 ps2 days of gaming, where the passion of developers feels so pure and original.

Just like anything else in life, once they see how popular something is, here comes men in suits showing everyone how to maximize profits. Woodstock will never happen again but wasn't it something. Triple a devs use safe tactics and cannibalize the ideas of smaller indie devs and just use each others tool kits to sell the best looking toy. They're as authentic as the pictures they show of the kind of food they sell. Notice how all the horror games look like they use the same engine as PT?

I don't think we've been in or near the golden age of video games yet, given the industry is still kind of new, and with games like breath of the wild pushing fun factor and games like Wolfenstein the new order pushing some different tones and shit in the industry especially with the new game showcasing Nazi members walking down the street with the KKK really shows just how broad the industry can get and has yet to reach

Movies don't have to be about anything, Derrick. You'd probably hate all of Richard Linklater's films. Plot is important to some movies but not so much to others. It's no wonder you don't like The Thin Red Line.

Thin Red Line does suck though, it's the typical film pretentious people point to as their favorite war movie because it's "so deep".

Scott Christiansen That's not why I like it at all. It's a great movie about man vs. nature and man vs. God set in world War 2 and it's shot beautifully. I'd enjoy it just for the scenery porn.
