It's hard enough to treat animals even when you do have an idea of medical history relative to their injury- especially when it comes to neonates...you do the absolute best with what you are able, you try to manage their discomfort, keep them as warm as thier bodies will allow in these cases, and do as much as possible....you did everything that could have been done for the little guy....And while it wan't the happiest ending, at least he knew a warm, loving touch and kept him as comfortable as you could allowing him to pass as peacfeas was possible under the circumstances.

@HurricaneBady Hi Hurricane Welcome to Megabattie, I'm Meg I put lots of information in the descriptions under the videos - so if you have questions, look for the answers there first. I also put the fate of the animal if I know it, at the time I put the video up. I may put updates there later if I find out what happened to the animal after it has left my care. There is also a Happy Outcomes playlist if you want to only watch videos where the bat survives; this is a real life channel and you get the good, the bad, the ugly and distressing, and even my oopsies. You can find further videos on an individual bat by searching in the YT search bar for Megabattie/and the name of the bat you want to follow. There is a community tab (like a mini Facebook page) on my channel - if you go to Megabattie home page, there is a menu bar across the top under the cover pic. Home, Videos, Playlists, Community, About. If you click on the community tab there are posts there where I can share pix and talk about some of the videos I put up and answer questions. I put up videos from Mandi and my rescue and care videos, so look to the title or description to figure out the context of the vids. Mandi doesn't rescue but she does a huge amount of rehabbing and has a lot of permanent care bats unable to be released for various reasons. She sends me the most amazing videos of her old retired bats in care; they've all got individual personalities and adorable quirks. Mandi lives 1200 kms away from me so I don't get to visit there often. I raise money for her on the videos. The rescue vids from my point of view are all mine, and if you hear me talking and see my hands in the videos doing bat care, then that's me too.

@Megabattie
@Megabattie 14 күн бұрын
@@jocunningham To completely exclude them you need to find out where they're getting in. If there is only one entry/exit point, install a one way flap, so when they go out they can't get back in again. First find out what type of bats you have, and what type of box they prefer, and put a box up as an alternative home for them, and make sure you don't try to exclude them when they're having babies and leaving them in your attic. Get a wildlife batty rescuer/carer in to offer advice. Or just let them come in and out, and try to avoid the cats interacting with them.

RIP Fennex. 🌈🦇❤️ The bruising made his body appear “gory” (to me, at least). I don’t recall ever seeing so much bruising on a bat, and it being so bright red. Maybe because he was so young, with no hair and thinner skin?
@Megabattie
@Megabattie 15 күн бұрын
If you read the description you'll see that the baby probably had septicaemia, which may lead to leaky vessels, showing up as bruising all over as the clotting factors are unable to deal with the overwhelming extravasation (blood going out of the vessels) and mop up all the damage. This could have been from being electrocuted whilst in utero and being born as his mum was dying. Or from trauma from the fall of his mum with internal bleeding and gut leaking into his peritoneum.
@annew8365
@annew8365 15 күн бұрын
@ Thank you, Meg. I’ve heard of septicaemia, but didn’t realize it caused vessels to leak. I appreciate your taking time to share your medical knowledge. 🤗
@Megabattie
@Megabattie 15 күн бұрын
@@annew8365 it's complex and if there is overwhelming sepsis the clotting factors can't mop it all up. Mostly I think mum was electrocuted which caused baby to be born early, leading to gut issues with the bacteria getting into the blood stream and leaking out with all the trauma; it was massive, whatever happened. Also factor in that baby dropped from some height (the trees are high there), so add some trauma into the equation.

"Micro"? Well Fennex is so tiny, that he has the dimensions--of a larger Micro. So painful to see that he's as of yet, comparatively hairless--like--I'd guess--if he's actually going to make it, it seems he may require LOTS of "incue" (incubator) time. I am indeed sensitive, if inappropriately droll, at times, and in my life, I've had some hard knocks, which has blunted some of this sensitivity, but, it was all that I could do to stop myself, from crying a "Nile" of tears over him. There is NO doubt, that when the vets view the post-mortem materials, their skills can only increase. That is some good which comes out of little Fennex's short sojourn, on this Plane.

The office staff would have judged on the MOP's description that it was the size of a leaf; I don't really consider leaves to be a standard or consistent measuring guide, and given that he was under huge native fig trees with commensurately large leaves, it was possibly not the best comparison.

Fennex, as a premmie, needed to be in the presence of a heartbeat to have a chance, ❣❤‍🩹💔 immediately wrap him up & put him in your bra & maintain him there; instead of alone in a box in the boot, or alone in a heated box in the house.

No, you're wrong; for a start he had septicaemia and was dying; secondly I'm not the heartbeat he's used to; a slow heartbeat means a dying bat. and thirdly (apart from the fact that I don't wear a bra), I can't supply him with enough warmth to warm him up; he's very cold and needs to be warmed slowly and my body isn't hot enough to give him what he needs. And fourthly - did I mention he had septicaemia and was dying?; what he actually needed is what he got; quiet, calm, warm and dark and undisturbed. When you're a bat rescuer you can learn and decide what to do, including whether or not you want to stuff him down your bra (do you even wear one?), or screw him up by stressing him with your noise and activity. Your choice. Oh, I forgot - you're one of the people who is all mouth and opinion without foundation and without actual putting yourself out there and doing something to make things better; my bad

@@Megabattie You do heroic work & save so many. I spoke/wrote too soon. Fennex’s journey resulted in an unexpected extreme emotional reaction. Apologies for unsetting the start of your day. 🙏

@@eric9-u3 I'm sorry you had an extreme emotional reaction; this wouldn't happen if you didn't care. It's all fine don't worry
