Right now Megadap MTZ11 is not working with Nikon Z9, Z8, Zf latest firmwares. No updates. Now news :(
Today, I want to discuss the Megadap brand, known for creating beautiful adapters that allow you to use non-autofocus lenses on your camera bodies. Unfortunately, the Megadap MTZ1 model has become almost unusable, or "bricked."
This model was last updated with firmware version 3.0 on October 29, 2023, and since then, there have been no updates or news for 10 months. It has been removed from their website, and each camera update makes the adapter less functional.
The MTZ1 adapter lets you use Leica M-mount lenses on Nikon Z cameras with autofocus. I have videos showing it working perfectly before, but now it shows errors and no longer supports autofocus. This issue is seen on both the Nikon Z9 and Z8. I'll link to a video of it working, but currently, it only shows an error message asking to press the shutter release button to reset.
If you are considering buying a different adapter from Megadap please think twice. They don't seem to support their products long-term. This expensive gadget, costing around $400-$500, might end up showing the same error over time. Right now, it only works on my Nikon Z7 II, but it's only a matter of time before it stops working with new updates.
For those using Z6, Z6 II, Z7, or Z7 II cameras, the adapter seems to work for now with firmware version 1.61. However, Megadap is not responding to emails, which is frustrating.
Megadap, if you're watching this, please support your customers better to maintain trust in your brand. Currently, I feel like I can only sell this adapter, hoping someone with compatible cameras will find it useful. It's about 80% bricked for me.
If anyone knows how to make the Megadap MTZ1 work on the Z8, Z9, or ZF, please leave a comment below. It's disappointing that it worked well on my Z9 but no longer does.
Thank you for watching. If you have any solutions, please share.
