Bobby I just bought the Techart version of a EF-Z mount adapter for the Nikon Zf. The answer to your question is, yes! I have a ton of Sigma EF Art glass as well as native Canon L glass. Wish I knew Megadap was working on this, especially for the control ring feature. I have the Megadap Sony E to Z mount and it exceeded my expectations, works fantastic.

@@btonelli I've had good and bad with that adapter. Mostly it's fine, focus is slower, of course. The other shortcomings is that the camera wouldn't apply lens corrections, and some lenses will show heavy distortions and vignetting. And your raw software may also have problems with that combination not being able to apply corrections. But sometimes the adapter goes totally nuts. I had an occasion when a lens started hunting like crazy, I also had the camera freezing, and just today, the lens would quietly neither focus, nor report correct aperture and you may not notice until later. Usually to fix those problems requires either power cycling or removing the battery. And sometimes, Megadap firmware would break compatibility with lenses that worked before. Right now the latest firmware is broken, I sent email to customer service with no response from them. Fortunately, I found a previous firmware version works despite having some other bugs.

Fringer EF to Z adapter as been available already for a while now and it is a solid product. I bought EF TS-E L lenses to use them on Nikon Z9 because there are no true mirrorless T/S options and Canon's T/S lenses are better than Nikon's operation-wise (except for the 19mm PC-E). so there's definitely a market for it...but not as mainstream.

Bobby. I think there is a definite market, I’ve been a Canon user for decades and so have a number of Canon EF lenses. I use the lenses with adapter on my R6ii and R7. I’m very happy with the lenses but have become increasingly disappointed with the bodies, The R6ii really needs more megapixels and the R7 desperately needs an upgrade in multiple areas. The R5ii addresses some of the problems but is expensive and there is a supply issue. I’m on the verge of buying a Z8 therefore. Knowing I can use my stock of EF lenses is going to finalise my choice.

I picked up a different brand- the 7artisans I believe- for EF to Z. Like you, I absolutely love my 50mm 1.4 EF lens but didn’t love any of the newer canon bodies and got the Nikon ZF instead. I did notice though a very slight difference in the subject pop when the lens is mounted on the 5Dmkiii compared to the ZF with the adapter. Do you notice this with the megadap? Have you done side by side comparisons? I’m wondering if it’s the sensor of the camera or the adapter since I used the exact same lens on both bodies.

If nothing else this adapter highlights the fact the Z mount is the best mount in the business - with the potential to adapt any lens from any system that currently exists - due to its wide throat diameter and its industry shortest flange distance. Currently, we can adapt Sony E mount, Fuji X mount, Leica M mount, and Canon EF mount - all to Z. So that means the Z camera is all of those other systems in addition to mounting the Z mount lenses which in themselves are top of class and in many instances the best in the market. Of course as far as lens design goes in the future the Z mount unlocks possibilities that just won't be possible with the Sony E mount for example - this is physics not an opinion. As far as the topic of this video, if an RF to Z adapter comes out and it works natively, Canon may not sell bodies anymore lol. Of course, I am being facetious, but in every joke there is a kernel of truth. -PD
@btonelli8 ай бұрын
Yes the Z mount is taking over what the E mount was a few years ago. It’s great to see this adaptation but also credit to Nikon for enhancing their cameras to make them more desirable. For a while the go to after Sony is Canon but we are seeing a shift. I would love to see an RF to Z haha that would be great!
@photographydiscourse11858 ай бұрын
@@btonelli Hi Bobby. Thanks for the reply. It would be great to see an RF to Z adaptor indeed although likely not so good for Canon. With Nikon's ownership of RED who already licenses the RF mount, it will indeed be interesting to see what happens going forward. And, I agree with much of what you say Bobby, and generally I want to preface the rest of this comment with the following statement. I think you generally put out decent information and that you are intellectually honest, and I like your channel - so the following is NOT an attack, yet I feel it needs to be said. I do not concur with your statement that Nikon is becoming 'go to' AFTER Sony. Not because this is not correct, which I think it is - clearly Nikon is edging out Canon as of late - that is not even disputable, but this statement gives the false impression that Sony is still somehow the best. Objectively, Nikon is the go to at this point. Probably not subjectively to all the shills, but facts are facts... The one exception is possibly the A9III - but ONLY for fast action and even then the Z8/9 keep up well enough for any professional application without the compromised DR - which there factually is. I know you did a review and said the A9III it was 'good enough' for general shooting - and you are correct - it is 'good enough' to the extent that APS-C is good enough because that is an equivalent DR. As you know, Nikon now own RED which has a global shutter than does a bonafide 17 stops of DR - this crushes the Sony sensor by any objective measure and does two more things: 1) It won't be long until Nikon takes advantage of RED tech - this and other techs that RED has, and 2) this notion that Nikon is (and has been) somehow dependent on Sony for sensors - to the extent that was true (which for those in the know it wasn't) - is also over as of now. Take any other objective criteria: Build quality, ergonomics, RAW files, IBIS, lenses that do not focus breath due to a substandard mount etc. etc. and it is clear to see that Nikon is the go to camera over Sony. Nikon is even caught up on AF and in some instances better than Sony - check Steve Perry for confirmation. Sony has one thing left - third party lenses and Nikon is now allowing for that as well. I only say all of this because for way too long KZbinrs have been supported by Sony (maybe not paid - but taken on vacations and given gear and promoted) and have given the general audience this impression that Sony reigns supreme and all else is bad - they especially targeted Nikon for the last 5+ years - making false and damaging claims like Nikon is going out of business - making the uninformed public reticent to buy into Nikon - this was a grave disservice to Nikon, but also the industry at large as Nikon is, and has proven again to be, a great innovator of photography equipment. Now the tables have turned and Nikon is showing the way. It is ridiculous to even consider an A9III (for $6500!!!) when the Z8 which does everything better than the A9III except 120 FPS for $3700 - just ridiculous - anyone who says otherwise is a Sony shill - facts are facts. Sure if you work for the AP and they give you an A9III to shoot pro sports that makes sense (mainly because you didn't have to pay for it yourself) but for any other shooter or any genre the A9III over a Z8 is pure foolishness and a waste of money that could be spent on Nikon's line of much superior telephoto lenses. In general, I think you have been fair to Nikon (and other non-Sony brands) over the years and that has been appreciated, but many of your peers are now exposing themselves as shills, and the general public should be given objective information - I think people are starting to see through the veil of Sony superiority. Ironically, Sony is in trouble in the long run - their substandard E mount which is objectively an APS-C mount jury rigged to FF will become more and more of a bottle neck as Nikon and Canon continue to create more innovative glass going forward that will not be possible on E mount without gimmicks like 'focus breathing compensation' which literally is a loss of focal length so not a real solution at all - anyone can just zoom in to avoid breathing but I for one want the focal length I paid for. I wonder how long they will continue to shove a square peg through a circular whole (so to speak) with the E mount. Just want to be sure we all set the record straight, and stick to the facts. Thanks again for all you do and for your intellectual integrity! -PD
@vipEmpire_7 ай бұрын
I would be happy to be proven wrong but I believe that even though Z mount does indeed have a shorter flange distance than RF mount, the difference in flange width is not great enough for an adapter to be physically possible.
