Wow, great first song reaction for your introduction to Megadeth. The reaction to that solo out of nowhere during Holy Wars, both of your faces was priceless. So, Dave Mustaine is definitely a Christian now, full blown Christian. He won't play several older songs that had demonic undertones to them, and he even won't play some tours with some bands. For history of the band. Dave Mustaine was the lead guitarist of Metallica. When they left California to go to NYC to record Kill Em All, there are different stories about what happened, but he was fired and woken up after a night of drinking, and told he was going back to California. He asked when his flight left, and the rest of Metallica told him it was a Greyhound bus. He rode the whole way back to California, just angry. He arrived and was staying some motel, and he kept hearing some kids outside trying to play guitar, waking him up. He finally told them to go get him some alcohol, and come back and he'd teach them how to play. One of those kids was David Ellefson, who became the bass player of Megadeth. Dave Mustaine was constantly in a state of competition with Metallica. He always wanted to play faster and heavier than Metallica. He always wanted to one up them. This song is off the fourth album of theirs, and it features what is probably their most iconic lineup. Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman both would play solos on songs, and this also featured Nick Menza on drums. The part you mention, where he ends with "messenger of God," is the end of the "Holy Wars" part of the song. Punishment Due starts after that, and is about The Punisher. This album would be released about the time of Metallica And Justice For All, for a comparison. I'll give you my meeting Dave Mustaine story. Megadeth started what they wanted to be a yearly festival tour, Gigantour. The first year, they had Anthrax on it, my favorite band, and I had a hook up for two tickets and passes to meet Anthrax for two shows, one in Seattle, one in Portland. First one was in Seattle, and the second ticket wasn't there, and when I got the pass, no one in security knew where I was supposed to go for the pass to meet Anthrax. Wandered around for hours trying to find an answer, until someone said go to a certain gate, that I had been at many times before. I wait in line and other people start showing up, with Megadeth passes, so I figure that it must be the location for all bands. I'm watching the time, and next thing I know, next band to go on stage is Anthrax. Then the gate opens, and we all go through, and then I hear the beginning of Anthrax's song, NFL. I know I'm not in right line, but screw it, I'm here in a line. Come around the corner, and there's Megadeth. First person at the table is Dave Mustaine, and I say, "hey, I am guessing this isn't the right spot, but I was supposed to have a pass to meet Anthrax." Dave Mustaine looks at me, "I'm not in Anthrax, I'm in Megadeth," with this look of, "you're one dumb idiot" look on his face. I say, "oh, I know, your band was what got me into loving thrash metal and Anthrax, and they're on stage right now, and I can hear them playing NFL, one of my favorite songs since it reminds me of a good friend that killed himself day before my birthday when I was 15. Got me through tough times, love the song." He pauses, listens, "yeah, that song is awesome. Here, talk with my tour manager, she'll get you straightened out where you're supposed to be, thanks for being a fan." Some more Megadeth songs: Symphony of Destruction, Peace Sells, Addicted to Chaos (I made a video for this one years ago) If you haven't done any Anthrax yet, here's one on point for what is going on currently, Keep It In The Family (and go with either a live version or the John Bush version), Blood Eagle Wings would be another good one (I would recommend not doing the official video though, it is Hard R). The lyrics of Blood Eagle Wings have to do with the violence present in all great cities, built upon the blood and dead of the people throughout history. Long comment, sorry.

WASP was big in the '80's, the singer came to Christ, and now they play Christian metal. The song Golgatha is really good. (The lyrics are already on the official video.)

I would love to see their reaction to this as well.

I mentioned that too. My first WASP concert was in 1985 and I still have the tour program. I idolized Blackie Lawless as a teenager so when I heard he “converted” I figured he was just trying to stay artistically relevant. Then I heard Golgotha. A little repetitive, but, sufficiently W.A.S.P. Blackie’s still got it!

I’ve been a Megadeth fan for 32 years and I’ve enjoyed watching you two for a while now. I think you should do “In My Darkest Hour” next. I believe you would love analyzing the lyrics and musically it is more simple than this one, but still one of my favorite Megadeth songs to date. Dave Mustaine has said he hates the album because of how drugged out he was and the mental state he was in while making it, which comes out in this song for sure, but So Far, So Good, What is a fantastic album, so it broke my heart to hear him say that. Rust In Peace is by far their best album in my opinion though. I met Dave Mustaine back in ‘91, long before he became a Christian, and he was a super down to earth and cool guy. He was of course sober by then too. Even if you don’t do this song, I think you should listen to it because again you can hear that raw emotion in Dave’s voice.

Theocracy- I Am I know I comment this in almost every video you post so hopefully it's not too annoying but I do it because I really am trying to put you and gauge on to one the best Christian rock bands out there, and this song in particular probably has some of the best lyrics out there at telling how awesome God is! I literally just have to stop what I'm doing and praise God every time I hear this song.

I had the great joy of being a college FM radio metal DJ when I received an advance copy of this single, before anybody in the community had any idea it was coming. When you call the studio, the phone doesn’t ring, but a red light bulb blinks. The day this prelease came in the mail, I started my radio on Saturday afternoon by dropping this on-air unannounced. The light was solid for the rest of the show because people who heard other callers talking about it were demanding that I play it again. Saw them that summer with Anthrax, Slayer and the the new opening band Alice In Chains. To be honest, Megadeth was the most technically excellent, Slayer was the scariest, Anthrax was the most fun, but Alice blew ‘em all away. Anyway... this is one of the great metal songs that is still accessible by casual rock fans. Good job, guys! I love your perspective.

Dave Mustain has a basic pentatonic/chromatic style of lead playing. Marty Friedman is more technical/melodic. Both good lead players, but very different. In this song I'm pretty sure Mustain only plays the last solo. Which is my favorite in this song.
@maxvincent55844 жыл бұрын
@@auri8810 I believe kirk played small parts of each solo on kill em all as Mustain wrote it, then improvised the rest. Kirk was a student of Joe Satriani before Metallica. Also Mustain wrote a cpl songs off kill em all, which had changes in the lyrics.

This was my first time viewing one of your videos, and I will admit that I've scrolled past several of your video links in the past due to the "Pastor Reacts" in the titles. While I am not a religious man by nature, I do not find myself drawn to any particular brand of religion, and just try to live a good life firmly believing in Karma, and respect for the one single planet we have been given. I don't have one bad thing to say about most religions, just live and let live. That being said, I finally got pulled in, The song in particular playing no small part in that choice, as it is one of my all time favorite metal songs. So, I just wanted to say I really enjoyed watching you two taking it in (This song IS a lot to take in). You have a great dynamic together. I enjoyed seeing how each of you noticed different, and valid, aspects of the song. Great reaction video, consider me subscribed, and look forward to see more of your stuff! Cheers.

Vic is the character on the cover of all the Megadeth albums. His origin comes from the song "Skull Beneath the Skin" off of "Killing is my business and business is good" which according to Dave Mustaine is a government oppression reference "See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil" so if you look at Vic he has his ears closed, his eyes shut, and covered with metal, and his mouth is sewn shut.
