Props to Kiko and Al (and to a lesser degree, Glen) for adding their own special touches to the solo. The song is about a breakup, and in my view, the solo should reflect that. Everyone has a different breakup experience, a different story or set of stories. Playing this solo the way Marty plays it is like trying to feel his emotions rather than adapt the solo to reflect your own. I would encourage anyone learning this solo on their own to first get the original down, but then to add their own touches to make it emotionally honest and reflective of their own style, personality, and experiences.

Why is everyone talking about Shawn? It's Glen who plays the solo, not Shawn.
@HitTheSnake4 жыл бұрын
I think Broderick is such a good player that playing Tornado of Souls is easy for him.. that’s why it sounds lifeless, cause it sounds as if he is barely trying, cause he is just technically too good. He doesn’t have to work for it, so there is no “feel”
@83442handle4 жыл бұрын
Not thats not the reason lmao. What makes the solo is Friedman's melodic bending which is what goes over the head of most players. You could play solo note for note and you won't sound as good as Marty. Thats the difference between Marty and someone playing a Megadeth cover.
@seanmatthewking4 жыл бұрын
I get what you’re saying. Some people who can just play really fast are almost impatient to play the next note and rush through it because they’re bored. There is something about being at brink of your abilities that gives a solo an edge. Maybe Marty was really pushing himself with this one.

He's good but have no charisma just like John Petrucci. Technical freaks but zero entertainment and connection with the crowd.

Bro fr Broderick played it PERFECT, i appreciate hearing all the notes clearly like he did and bends are right too. I don't get all the no feeling thing ppl think a guitarist is better if they make dorky faces and moves

Marty was a beast onstage. I saw one of his last shows and i had no idea he was unhappy and fixing to leave. He was rocking and smiling that night. The next time i saw them with Pitrelli, i remember Dave telling him to move around more and Al did not like that.
@plamenmilanov30093 жыл бұрын
obviously Friedman is the original and thus the most liked, but god damn did Pitrelli understand the solo on a completely different level or what? And i mean it in the best possible way. Also he has the best solo tone of all of them. Bonus points for playing an explorer and hanging it that low.

Don't forget they decreased the tempo/bpm of the song as the years gone by so Marty also plays/played it alot faster.. Which also is a fuckton harder..
@SamH9805 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not, faster can be an advantage. Marty was the best of them, but by no means does faster mean harder. When things are slowed down it can instigate more chances of mistakes. When a mind is used to a fast tempo and muscle memory is developed on a given peice, its harder to slow that material down is what I am insinuating.

I had the pleasure this year of seeing Kiko and Marty do this solo. I saw Megadeth first. They were fantastic. Kiko was great. Marty was on a whole other world though. I saw all my favorite bands in the past 2 years and going to that Marty concert. it was 10x better than any other one I've been do. You're just in his world man. The guy plays with so much feel and emotion. He just sucks you in. So with that solo and everything that has to do with guitar, Marty wins haha. How boring does Chris lol btw. watching someone do it like that, i couldn't even get excited

I love that Broderick’s engagement with the crowd is just nodding yes or no like “you like how I play this solo?” “you’ll never play this solo like me.”
