Pitrelli is really underrated just because he isn't as technical as the others, but come on, the guy played the solo on a Gibson Explorer hanging as low as his knees, I give him credit for shredding on that kind of guitar

Which was not a good idea in the first place. Having it that low may look cool to some, but it reduces your playing ability and maneuverability. If it was higher it would’ve given him more freedom for his arm to move. I’m not saying it was bad, but I think it could’ve been better.

Zé Pereira Dude.. You are right. Kiko plays those key notes that define and separate each run in the solo, the carefully placed single bend transition notes that Marty talks about which makes his playing stand out. Marty has played it much better live. Marty timing most consistent followed by Kiko for me. Kiko seems to be late on the chromatic descending section but overall the better performance

Props to Kiko and Al (and to a lesser degree, Glen) for adding their own special touches to the solo. The song is about a breakup, and in my view, the solo should reflect that. Everyone has a different breakup experience, a different story or set of stories. Playing this solo the way Marty plays it is like trying to feel his emotions rather than adapt the solo to reflect your own. I would encourage anyone learning this solo on their own to first get the original down, but then to add their own touches to make it emotionally honest and reflective of their own style, personality, and experiences.

Being in a band myself, playing some songs originated and composed by several guitarists before me entering the band, I could understand how it feels to be these dudes. Filling and standing in other's shoes yet you know you unconsciously share your own tone and color, so the song and melody lines must have changed somehow. In this case of Tornado of Souls, gotta say I like them all, each one had been able to perform in their own uniqueness. If I were forced to rank them, I'd go with this order: Marty, Broderick, Loureiro, Pitrelli, and Drover. Nice post by the way.

If you've ever accomplished the goal of learning the studio solo and played it like it is, note per note, you can easily tell that none of them played the solo exactly like the studio solo, not even Marty himself. I heard him say in an interview once that he hasn't been able to replicate that solo the same way again.

Except he missed a shit ton of notes...and he doesn't know every note. Watch his other practice videos where he plays with the studio version and you can actually tell that he doesn't know every note like you claim. Claiming he is the best guitarist because he is Brazilian is doing him no justice.
@eduardoferrari657
@eduardoferrari657 3 жыл бұрын
@@_Chipster he already admitted that he can't play the solo note for note, but that's not a great argument for deciding if he is a good player cause I'm pretty sure marty can't play his Angra solos note for note as well. Music isn't a competition any way, so let's just enjoy their songs and be happy.
@georgewalker3702
@georgewalker3702 Жыл бұрын
@@_Chipster even if he claims he can't, Kiko could actually play Marty's solos the way they were written, but he chooses not to. And it's not a lack of effort. The reason is that's not the type of guitar player he is. He adds himself to the solo. Yes, he should be more focused when he's playing the solo so that he makes less mistakes, but he's so smooth with it that you barely even notice it unless you really feel like hating him for some reason.

Mr. Friedman is for me not in this category because he created the solo, so for the other 4, Al's version is the best for me. They all can play solo like it was written but they want to give there own flare, ones again Al did the best job, old school solo.

Yeah, he really using totally different approach. While every Megadeth guitarists are typical 80's shredder, using superstrat model like ibanez or jackson. Pitrelli just looked like badass hard rocker, he played so many gibson les paul on stage with Megadeth or using Explorer model just like James Hetfield on this video which is kind of type of rhythm guitarists selection for metal band. And what I really loved about this guy is his solo is look so pentatonic compared to the rest of Megadeth's lead guitar. Sorry for bad English, not my first or second language 😁

I love how Kiko does it because where others just kinda replicate what Marty did, he adds his own little flare to it, playing it with his own unique style while still retaining that golden standard that Friedman set on the original solo. The only way I could describe his version of the solo is sounding desperate, like he’s backed up against the wall.

@@JoshSingleTon2 tbh when going to a concert i expect the guitarist to have stage presence. That's what Marty and Kiko did better than the others. Broderick is the most technical for sure, but having technique is not everything while playing live. What i mean is they focus too much on getting the solo as perfect as possible, and too little on the people in front of them. And 90% of fans go to concerts to see the musicians, not to hear the songs, otherwise they would just open spotify for it.
