Horse meat is perfectly safe to eat and actually very tasty. The problem only arises when it's sold as beef.

In the UK horse meat when sold as horse meat is more expensive than beef. I think what ended up in processed food was old horses who were put to sleep then should have gone for pet food, and ended up in human food instead as it was cheap.

it might well be safe but culturally and ethically it isn't acceptable in the UK.
@alwhyte65333 жыл бұрын
@@PhyllisGlassup2TheBrim ethically? Sorry buddy, but I feel it's more 'ethical' than running horses for 'sport' and killing them that way. It's 'cultural' prudishness on the part of Brits. Personally, I've got no problems with eating horse. The acceptability part is on the part of the individual. If they don't accept it, that's entirely up to themselves. I do accept it however, and I'll eat horse when I can source it. As I say, I don't see why there is an issue around horse meat, when we quite happily allow a 'sport' that lets people run horses into the ground, whip them with riding crops and hit them with spurs. All for people to place bets on. Now THAT'S unethical, surely? And if the animal falls and breaks a leg? It gets shot. End of story. THAT'S unethical. It's a prime example of the backwards thinking that's so commonplace in this country.

I didn't know that rice was so sensitive! I live on my own so occasionally make a big batch of 'My Mock Chinese Food' that is a mix of rice, seasonings, about 3 different veggies, mushrooms, & cooked meats. I sautee each separately and then mix together and leave in the refrigerator for at least 2 days. I only reheat the portion on my plate in the microwave and haven't been sick yet. Getting Harry's bottle to a reading of zero won't be doing him any favors, long term.
@carlhartwell79784 жыл бұрын
I understand what you're saying, but it will never be zero and there will always be other ways his immune system can be given a chance to strengthen, what with him constantly putting his hands in his mouth and all. I certainly wouldn't recommend a parent not sterilizing bottles as thoroughly as possible in order to help boost their child's immune system anyway. I guess it's a difficult balance nowadays as our common awareness of bacteria has increased dramatically. On the one hand, this awareness has without any shadow of a doubt increased our lifespans and health by an enormous stretch, but on the other, it has the ability to make us afraid of _germs_ to a potentially dangerous degree. I'd hope though that as long as we are aware of the dangers of both extremes, we can strike something of a balance.

What is the problem with the fact that it's horse meat?
@kennikitty4 жыл бұрын
Well, for once horses are generally considered companion animals or pets now and not lifestock. For many people, it's like eating their pet dog. The other side of the story is that privately owned pet horses are treated with much different medication than lifestock when they get ill. These meds can go into the food chain, if said horse gets bought by a shady meat buyer, who's not too concerned with proper papers and has the horse slaughtered for meat somewhere where someone else is not all that concerned about papers eithers. And even with legal slaughter horses there's sometimes issues like transport and equipment meant for cattle. Horse meat is a very controversial topic.
