Was the megalodon the biggest shark? 🦈 What was the size of a megalodon? It's been believed that Meg was nearly the length of two school buses in size. But a new method of calculating the megalodon's size claims the previous numbers were an underestimation. New studies suggest Meg was 2 times bigger than we thought! 😱 No wonder megalodon was the king of the ocean.

Same type of thinking with sailors believing the giant squid was impossible but now a days, it’s absolutely a thing and does in fact exist. Now I don’t know if I’d call it hope though. Having a creature like that be around would be terrifying. Honestly, I hope it is long gone, but I’m not gonna say it doesn’t exist. Not till every corner and depth of the ocean has been mapped.

It is overly presumptuous to think that if something as big as megalodon still lived we'd have already found it. There is much about the oceans we don't know still. Also, there are many reports and videos of exceedingly large sharks at great depths. I won't its the meg, but I will say that we don't know what it is and it looks to be very large.

@Kris De Roo ok then 1- 10000 or 24000 years ago is still bc but I guess its the associating terminology that goes with it you don't like. 2- even now ( and always has been ) carbon dating is unreliable, especially after 30000 years, pretty much negating it and putting it into realm of guessing. Fossils are mainly made up of the surrounding minerals just leaving the shape of what was once there, so what is being dated, the animal or the planet? Science programmes info into the computer initially and changes the narrative when it doesn't fit but the start is always the same someone programmes the machine

@theamorphousflatsch2699 2 жыл бұрын
Evolution is a process of natural selection, which takes a long time, unimaginly long. The extinction happened over a couple of decades and would have killed off all megalodons, before they could have changed in any way. Also, even if it survived, it would have already been found.

@theamorphousflatsch2699
@theamorphousflatsch2699 2 жыл бұрын
@@dontsubscribe5505 You clearly don't have a clue of what you're talking about. The Megalodon and the white shark aren't even distant relatives. They have a common ancestor, but the megalodon didn't "evovlve into any other species, that makes no sense. He died out millions of years ago. And he definitely doesn't live in the deep sea. The Megalodon is a shallow water shark. He hunts and breeds in shallow waters. This shark needs to eat more food a day, then most regular sharks eat in a week/month. He would never ever be able to support his food requirements in the deep sea. Also he definitely could not have survived the mass extinctions, since massive animals are the first to die out, since they cannot support their weight.

Hey don't forget the Megamouth Shark no one knew it existed until it was first photographed back in the 70's and don't forget the Celocanthe fish it was supposed to have gone extinct with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago until it was found alive in the 1930's or what about the other animals that people thought were extinct but are still alive and thriving in areas untouched by humans so anything is possible.

@@jbalvinfan2762 its unlikely, since its a shallow water shark, it had to be rather *small* to be a effective hunter. Also, as already established, since its not related to any modern sharks, the proportions could be off by a lot. Imagine this, the white shark hunts thin skinner fish and mamals. Very soft prey, so he has proportionaly small teeth. So the scientist, that investigated megalodons teeth, made the assumption, that megalodon has exactly the same proportions, but we know that megalodon hunts thick skinned, bony, and scaled animals, most of them giant in size. Of course, he'd have larger teeth proportionaly to his body mass. Also wider teeth, since he doesn't swallow all of his prey, but rips flesh out of most ( they were to large for him ).
