Nursing student here!! Burns from a strong base/alkaline agent are much worse than an acidic burn. Acids can be washed off with water usually and don’t tend to penetrate as far (they still can be super harmful it not removed!). However, a base has to be neutralized and destroys both proteins and lipids of the skin, penetrating deep into the skin and fat. Bases are also more difficult to remove in the hospital setting. Because of that, the wounds are often deep, painful, and difficult to heal. Many people are blinded each year just from a small DROP of drain cleaning getting into the eye, it just keeps destroying as it penetrates far into the tissue. I'm a nurse who works on a burns ward. Full thickness burns like what Konrad had are normally painless due to the extrensive destruction of the nerves. Also, 40% burns create a systematic inflammatory response that would have made him go into severe shock (hence the kidney failure) and after that happened he most likely would have been unable to think stright or do anything if he was even conscious at all. My guess is that he was very, very intoxicated when it was thrown on him, and the shock and systematic reponse to the burns kicked in before he had time to sober up, wake up and help himself. Poor man. That is an absolutely horrendous way to die.

For context, Lye also known as sodium hydroxide or NaOH, it absorbs whatever water it gets in contact with, for example from the air or from the skin, and forms a strong base. Which eats away at flesh and many metals. Having it in powdered form, to me, is scary because it could get into your lungs and work there. In general, it's a "do not touch with bare skin" substance which should be handled with care and while wearing PPA.

And I am really tired of the trauma excuse made me kill someone or family. Trust me there are a lot of us who went through trauma and don’t commit heinous acts. People who have known trauma and get somewhat past it, our survivors. They don’t cry crocodile tears in order not to go to jail. And it was all an act and anyone who is a judge and doesn’t see that might needs Togo back and learn from mistakes. I have to wonder how many repeat offenders of serious crimes she has let out in the world. Probably a lot because this was open and a shut case.

0:46 I was working in Chemistry lab one time and didn’t realize that I got a corrosive chemical (may have been lye; can’t remember) on the back of my hand. It started getting really uncomfortable really quickly, and when I looked down, the back of my hand was basically being burned away where the chemical drop had hit my skin. I got it washed off really quickly, but I can still see the outline of the healed-over scar on the back of my hand almost 20 years later. Chemical burns can cause damage so quickly. @@mariamoosetail1287 I don't really want to get into it too much. But it's just interesting to me that this judge decided that this girl got to be judge, jury, and executioner for her father. I mean, drunk drivers, for example, also do not intend to unalive people. But they do it. And their childhood, the status of the victim, it doesn't matter. The dad's only "crime" in this specific scenario is refusing to drunk drive. And he was unalived for that. It would maybe be considered crime of passion for what you're mentioning if that was happening in that moment and he passed out drunk after, and then she attacked him Because of that. But since she didn't use that as a defense we can assume it didn't happen. So, although it could be a factor leading up to her crime, it is not directly related to the crime she committed. (Allegedly or whatever.) She also consistently contradicted herself. Is her dad a positive force in her life or what? She is at the very best a serial liar. Her current life she is posting about how she wishes her father was still alive. Oh this girl is heartless. My dad was abusive towards me as a child, he wasn’t malicious but he was drunk. I was the only one out of my sisters to get beat for crying or anything that would set him off. As I got older and my dad had to be put on dialysis I was the only one out of my sisters with my own apartment. I took him in because he needed all around care. He never stopped drinking, never apologized for the trauma he inflicted on me and yet when he told me he was basically on his death bed and that he was serious. I just cried. I wanted so desperately to confront him. Tell him why he was the reason all of my relationships failed, because he showed me through acts of violence that vulnerability was a weakness. Up until his passing I had NO good words for him the way this chick does. She loved her father and yet she still murdered him. I resented my dad more than anyone I know. But when he went to work on his birthday I was asleep. Later on I went to work. I got the call that my dad had a stroke and because he was on the job sight and was the boss he was there first with no one around. Once someone found him and got him help it was too late. He slipped into a coma and was basically brain dead for 2 weeks. Me and my sister still kick ourselves till this day for not telling him to take that day off. What she did to her father is unforgivable. She absolutely had no right to bring trauma into this!!! I went through fucking hell and yet I’d rather self destruct than even think about unleashing my pain onto others, this world hurts my heart.
