I love your spreadsheet! You put a lot of time and thought into what you're looking for. I was having a lot of problems with planners and journals last year. Ultimately I did a mind map for what I need. And I started this year in a TN and haven't looked back. The ability to customize was appealing while having it be "bound". Archiving is a lot easier. Also, each booklet lets me change when I need to, while also organizing and committing longer than a few weeks. It's so flexible but also helps me stay committed. I hope you're doing well and giving yourself grace! We are ever-evolving, and it makes sense our planners (who are a reflection of US) are also evolving. ❤

To add, as I watch further in your videos, I also use sterling ink booklets. They are amazing quality and I really have zero complaints. Their monthly and weekly booklets are great, too. The onyx and forest colors are gorgeous in person. I hope you enjoy them as well. I do enjoy watching you try new things, though I know it can be stressful.

I think whenever the current notebook system causes friction it's tempting to try another system, I definitely feel that. From your spreadsheet the TN system does seems to have all the features you want (at least on paper). Personally I could never really get on with the whole elastic + thin booklet thing, I also disliked storing them. But the fresh start of a new booklet could be really nice, I also enjoyed decorating the booklet covers. When I used a ring binder I archived my pages in chronological "packages", not separated by topic, and just bound the pages together with string - using some stiffer paper as a "cover". I loved the aesthetic of those page packages and kept them in a pretty shoe box. Much slimmer than PVC binders, but idk if that'd be your cuppa. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with the TN. And omg, Tamagotchi Corner Shop, such a blast from the past! I loved that game on the DS lite. My favourite mini-game was making those fried dough balls with octopus inside, I forget what they're called.

You said "September" and little bell dinged in my heart. LOL, barely even started summer here. Can confirm that Gathering Moss is quite interesting. Love the summer stickers. They have a feeling of looking at the bright world through sunglasses.

A potential idea for filofax archiving that I've thought of but never tested myself---- Since you can buy rings separately, could you buy those and a decently thick sheet of cardstock and make a sort of craft binder folder? That may be a big more work since it isn't a one-and-done binder solution, but the sizing of it could be completely customizable. You could probably hold it closed with treasury tags or just a rubber band thing.

My first ever hobonichi just arrived like 5 minutes ago... and the pages are THIN 😅 I did not know tomoe river pages were this thin. It will take me some time to get used to it but I like how soft smooth it feels ♥️

I laughed so hard at the spreadsheet, because... I just had a massive rant to a friend today about a system. I'm literally in planner shambles and have been for the longest time. It's actually making me think (from your previous videos), I have something going on as well, because you mentioned something about diving into different planners to have a sense of control and man... I think I have the exact same "issues". It's fun but then becomes stressful with what you waste, what you don't use, what you don't enjoy, what you spent money on, etc... I needed this today. Thank you. Genuinely think I'll be making a massive spreadsheet list too. I'm currently stuck on what to do for a bullet journal, long time Archer and Olive (and similar brands) user, but I'm kinda burnt out on it all. Definitely come to appreciate stats and information more over excessive drawings (that I'm not that good at anyway!). Which made me swap to a Midori, then back to my first notebook I ever used an LT1917, hated it, went back to the Midori, hated that too... Keep logging everything in the Hobonichi weeks (first year trying that brand) and... I don't know if it's working. Got my first A6 techo this year, thought I'd hate it, cause I was used to thick paper, didn't hate it... Ordered the cousin... Both as daily journals. Loved the idea of having more space to write because sometimes I just wanna word vomit, however, the small A6 just seems more convenient... THEN... Traveler's notebook came back into the picture. Seems like the perfect size between the Hobonichi A6 and A5... And I hate it. My poor wallet. I ordered the passport size a while back and hated that, it's just too small. So I've considered the regular now... What I've done is just ordered a grid and dot grid insert, I'll try and keep it as my daily writing (along side whichever hobonichi for now) to see how I like it, if I end up liking it I might have to sell a kidney and get the TN standard size. Ahem... About that spreadsheet. I'll be going now.

hey megan! i don't mean to send you on another planner journey, but have you considered a more standard size of filofax like an a5? i think it offers you solutions for a lot of the issues you have with it and provides the benefits of the hobonichi a5. the archival solutions are much more abundant (i use jumping fox design or a set of three plastic ones similar to school binders and an expanding accordion file). i think the page size will also allow you to create larger pages that have both a daily journal entry and a commonplace on the same page so they're not out of context. i think one of the issues you hit with the personal/franklin covey personal is that the archive solutions are less abundant due to the uncommon sizing.

Have you considered secondhand filofax binders for archiving? The non leather ones are usually pretty affordable, are still aesthetically pleasing and you could color code different kind of archives?

stoked to hear you mention traveler's notebooks! it has been my main system for almost a year now. I have a notes book, journaling & prompts, commonplacing, DND related things, etc etc. sometimes I just yeet a book out because i don't use it and it's a joy. I use a hobonichi for creative memory keeping (very messy, no planning, just vibes, ephemera, memories and pictures). I have a Louise Carmen roadbook for my TN (they are a special size, so a bit wider than traveler size - a5 moleskine sized basically but any TN stuff ALSO fits which is cool? my books are mismatched), they are not cheap but the customization is sooo so endearing.

So nice to see another in the trenches I call TN vs Filofax. I’ve been fighting all year between the two and have been scrambling to keep the hobo weeks up to date as an “important info” archive… hopefully I’ll figure it out by the time I need to pick a system for next year

Sorry you aren't feeling well - hope it's a quick one. For coffee with gloom: two options in case either are video-worthy. (1) How do you find your own balance - i.e. protect your space without then also feeling isolated? (2) How do you find having a dog vs a cat? Care-wise and peace-wise - is it a lot harder? I love Wednesday (and dogs in general) but have always had cats.Thank you for your videos - I am glad YT sent me here early last year. ☕
