See, this is why Europeans are dominating the NBA. Euroleague is a very competitive league and its coaches (especially Greeks and Serbs) are having none of it. In 14:38, Obradovic is sending Bjelica to the locker room. He was the Euroleague MVP that year. It's like the Bucks coach sending Giannis to the locker room during a game, or the Nets coach kicking KD out of the game.

I used to practice basketball when I was a teenager, until the end of high school in Serbia. The one thing that matters in EU style basketball coaching is that all of the players from the very start are seeing the coach as a person with absolute authority. You get that mentality from the beginning. Coach is something like your "sport dad". The team is the family, only the team matters and the coach is the head of the family. And if the coach is good, like these guys in the video are, you as a player have the upmost respect for them. You don't argue, criticize or talk back. You even feel ashamed when the coach criticizes you. Because in 99.9% of cases he is right. You actually feel ashamed for letting down the coach and your team (you can see the players having their heads down when the coach yells at them, like kids who just broke the neighbors window and are in the process of being grounded for a month). There is no place for self promotion and solo flying. Never saw this in the NBA. In the NBA the coach and the captain are running the team equally. The best example would be Bulls with MJ. So they share authority, quite often even the cap has more authority than the coach. In Europe coach is the father, captain is the oldest brother who was entrusted to lead the team by the father, end of story. You can even notice that when a US born player comes to Europe he kinda starts the individuality thing and going against the coach, but he soon toes the line. Most of the time by the pressure from his team mates, not the coach himself.

I think it's necessary to explain something in this video, as a Fener fan. When Mr. Obradovic spoke to team and Datome ''Fuck you Gigi Datome, fuck you everybody'' so many people criticised him in Turkey for his language like ''ok, you're ambitious, angry and very motivative but you crossed the line out there''. So later in this video when he talks to team as ''Sorry that I need to speak like that. May I please ask you to play a little defense?'' is like one or two weeks later if I remember correct. He talked to team in that way also to give media a message.

@@janakolasinac1686 well to be honest most of fener fans like me didn't really make a problem out of it, we knew that's how he is, as character and how he managed so many things this way. So we never had problem. But the other teams fans criticised him mostly and i believe they did it only to hurt the team and the coach. Fener fans rsspect and love him a lot like Pana fans

Watching that last one from Saras at the end of the video, I just imagine him watching NBA and going CRAZY with the idiocy that is going on with the 3pointers with 20 seconds on the clock. I mean even I get angry at this blatant stupidity. Imagine an actual coach watching that unfold. They wouldn't send them in the locker rooms, they'd expell them from the whole damn country if they did that in Europe :P

That's why best coaches don't work in The nba because players do what they want
@sejuanisupportonly73853 жыл бұрын
@@420Lauris Lately I struggle to understand what coaches in NBA even do, when plays like "we have 18 seconds on the clock let's yeet the ball from one meter behind the 3-point line on a fast break" are now common-place. I actually saw Milwaukee Bucks do that. Look at the highlight when Kyrie got hurt. He was down on the other end and Middleton iirc just chucked the ball 5 vs 4 with 18 seconds to go. He didn't even wait for someone to go in the paint for a rebound for crying out loud. Meanwhile I was looking some older highlights and I was reminded of a Greek basketball finals with coaches Ioannidis and Βozidar Μalkovich, with the old FIBA rules, 30 seconds on the clock and the defenders stuck on the opponents. *FINAL SCORE of the whole game* ? One of the most *extreme* results in basketball: *45-44* ... in a professional game between two of the best teams in Europe at the time. You can actually watch that old game here on youtube. Look up "Ολυμπιακός - Παναθηναϊκός: 45 - 44 (1995)" and it is there, all of it.

@@dennisthemenace855 I think it's just different..you can't really compare it, because in Europe the fans are really going to war. So that creates a completely different atmosphere. I've seen interviews with NBA players talking about their experiences in Europe and they said it's like playing in a war zone, they sometimes felt their lives were in danger while playing. I think the NBA creates pressure because of the money involved, in Europe the pressure comes from the social aspects.

The best players of the NBA are the best players in basketball. But Euroleague has players that are as good as NBA players who play 20 minutes per game that really buy into the team they play for. Guys have longer deals where you don't have to worry about getting traded, so even the sixth man knows he's a part of the team for long term.
