Thank you for this video. I ordered this same harp in Amazon and an hour after this video popped up in my video recommendation. I canceled my order right away 😂. I now ordered a Ravenna 34. You definitely saved me from wasting money.

I absolutely love my Roosebeck Minstrel Harp 29 string. It even has a level 1 blemish (cosmetic) and still plays like a dream for this beginner. Still giving a like for your honesty! It’s important to be true to yourself.

Most important is that you love it! There are definitely some good ones out there, but quality control is pretty spotty unfortunately. Keep enjoying your music 😊

Hi Molly! When internet became accessible for me, I started researching about harps, then found a harp teacher before I ever made a harp purchase. She was instrumental (pun intended) in helping me to buy my first harp. All your good harp teachers are going to tell you to stay away from these kinds of harps because of the reasons you just gave. As always, thanks for the great videos!

Hey Molly! In the title of your video you mention Roosebeck and Mideast. Are they the same company? Or does Roosebeck sell Mideast harps? I'm confused because Roosebeck has it's own website and they appear to build their own instruments.

Great point about getting as many strings as you can afford from a quality maker!

Hello Magical Musical Molly Khan, aka Musical Molly Khan ;) I've read/watched enough to convince me on not getting a Roosebeck harp. I almost got a Megan Harp. But I went with a basic Harpsicle and I am quite pleased. I lived in Seattle and was able to rent and have a few lessons on a Ravenna 34. However, I'm in no shape or form worthy of one at this time. I'm in the market for a gothic harp, no levers but maybe. Tbh, I haven't seen many videos about gothic harps in general and none about reviews. I keep seeing an EMS Gothic 29 string model. Are EMS , "The Early Music Shop" Middle Eastern harps in disguise? They appear to be located in the UK? Their gothic and most all of the floor harps do not have any carvings on the side which are dead giveaways for a middle eastern harp. What do you know about EMS? Do you own a gothic harp?

I wanted a Dusty Strings Ravenna 34 but the price went up by £1000 to £3200 putting it right out of my price range. I don't know how they can justify such a huge increase. I'm 65, a beginner so just bought a Pakistani made harp for £850 as I'm never going to be a concert harpist, just a hobbyist (I've played piano all my life and wanted a different instrument to learn). Interesting what you say about the bass strings. They're not too bad except for low C. It is so slack it doesn't even register on either of my tuners. I've only had the harp for a few days so I know it takes a while for the strings to settle. This harp is probably OK to learn on. Maybe in the future I'll upgrade it to the one I really want - the Ravenna 34.

Hi Molly I’m actually super interested in getting the Meghan and Minstrel harps so I’ve been finding all sorts of way to get one to my country. I tried using your Amazon link but it said currently unavailable so maybe you could take a look at the listing? Thanks a lot!

You saved me from throwing money away. I think if someone who understands harp manufacturing went to Pakistan, they could possibly create a good instrument at a good price point. Thank You.

Did Roosebeck improve quality of these harps lately? I watched a video stating that quality had been improved.

Build quality of Pakistani harps has improved a lot. An all-Pakistani company, Mikel Harps make some quite good-looking, usable instruments, and new Roosebeck harps come with improved levers, too. Pakistani harp makers use more solid wood and they have lower prices than their Western counterparts. However, they do tend to use cheap, bad quality strings and thick polyurethane finish. The tone of their instruments is usually rather poor, although it can sometimes be made a little better by installing a new set of strings to the instrument. A lot of the issues with the old Pakistani harps were possible to be fixed with some invention and effort. The levers, for instance, were possible to be changed to a better set quite easily. The most serious issue has always been their tone quality. It is something that cannot be fixed so easily.

If you like a harp and feel attachment to it, go for it and learn how to make it sing. Don't believe every bad comment or negative video. They are just opinions, and your opinion may differ. With a lot of determination and hard work, beautiful music can be played on any instrument. That's what learning to play an instrument is all about. The player is much more important than the instrument. In the process of music making the qualities of the player account for 95%, the instrument only accounts for 5%. In the Western consumerist society we are all too spoiled, and think that music is reserved for the best and the richest. It's wrong! Amazing music has always been made by people with a lot of talent and no money. The quality of Pakistani harps is quite decent nowadays, especially compared to the quality of some ancient instruments that some musicians had to put up with. They are much more affordable than hyped-up prestigious instruments. In any case, they can be "tuned up" adding new strings/levers etc. later, if you feel the need for them. And if you persist, there'll definitely be a point in the distant future when you'll feel the need of a new harp. It happens to every musician, irrespective of the quality of their instruments, because we tend to "grow out" of our instruments. Try your choice at the shop first, and try some other options, too, if there are any. Watch videos, read comments, and think about the advantages and disadvantages of all the possible choices, then decide. If, after all that contemplation, you still like the Pakistani harp that you have chosen, go for it. But whichever harp you get in the end, don't forget, beautiful music cannot be made without a lot of hard work.

OMG I wish I can see this video earlier LOL I bought this harp from Amazon due to covid situation and immediately notice this is not a good investment. Now i have been learning harp for few months and ending up ordering the new quality harp from Lyon & Healy because the lever are really hard to turn. Actually this is not that cheap with this quality, I spent about 1600 on it and now i notice Salvi and Lyon & Healy offer rent to own program with very fair price.
