I think it may also speak, in part, to the mixed feelings Brits seem to have about Americans. As an American living here, I meet lovely people who don't care where I'm from and lovely people who are excited to talk to me about the US. She tried to make the impression that she's this famous Hollywood actress who married a British prince even though most Americans probably never even heard of her before her engagement to Harry.
