In this video, I tell the tale of my Paragard IUD falling out! I wish it was as funny as it just plopping into my pants or something... but there were some bodily signs & I explain them in this video! There are obviously a lot of stories like mine out there, but I wanted to share my personal experience & advice on getting an IUD in general. Hope this helps some of you ladies out or at least gives you a laugh! ENJOY!

I wouldn’t even trust a man enough, think about it! if you are dating a man for a while and the time comes and he’s like oh it’s fine I’m on the pill. And then there’s also the chance of him taking it incorrectly, he’s not got the responsibility of the consequences in the end.

Mikaela Grace I can understand that completely! Lord knows that lots of “men” have let us ladies down in the past. But for me, that seems to disregard the fact that if you’re with the right person / have a stable and honest foundation / mutual respect / equal awareness surrounding safe sex and each other’s sexual organs I feel like taking that responsibility should be a given. I’m personally not willing to be with someone if there isn’t a steady flow of openness and communication, so if the guy was acting like an immature and reckless trash bag surrounding taking his birth control as well as his / my sexual health and safety I would say adios to him. Also if any dude were to be reckless with something as important as taking birth control or hell even wearing condoms it would show that he has some serious growing up to do. Also I’d say we should make every dude try taking birth control just so that they can experience that same feeling of taking charge of one’s body and sexual health as well as understanding the lengths that women have to go to in order to prevent pregnancy

Choley Haslam that’s why i believe it’s so important to use condoms even if he / she were to be on birth control, especially if it’s just a hookup. Plus good god STDs and STIs are spreading like wild fire gurl. Also if that level of trust isn’t there in the first place would you really wanna be canoodling with them? Plus at least for me if I was iffy with his commitment to taking his birth control I would try and include myself in his whole birth control “journey” (just as men should do for their female partners imo) to make sure that he was doing it properly / not being a child about it.

it's truly terrifying knowing that nothing is truly safe. women shouldn't have to be punished and deserve pleasure, simply because we have the ability to labour a child, should mean nothing. i want to enjoy sex and have a bond with my partner without being terrified something is going to happen to me. we all deserve that.

I’m sure you’re aware, but your maturity and openness about everything you believe in and feel is so admirable. I see videos like this and I am so built up and inspired that there are women like you in the world. I think the “trust yourself” method definitely varies from person to person, and I’m at the brink of that decision for myself after being on birth control for 9 years. At 29, I’ve never really known adulthood without hormones, and I am wildly looking forward to just feeling like myself. Thanks for being sweet, smiley you. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Xoxo

Dear young teens watching this video, Although the pull out method is NOT SOMETHING TO DO IT IS NOT EFFECTIVE!!! Meghan obviously does not care. Please please don’t do this. Condoms are in ANY store and you don’t have to be a certain age to purchase them it’s so so important that you and your partner remain safe and healthy !!!

Meghan I work in Healthcare you should totally call your insurance let them know that the clinic hasn't reimbursed you the $700. They can help you get it back since they already paid for the service. You can also report the clinic for that. They shouldn't have had you pay other than a copay for it until after your insurance reimbursed them whatever amount.

As a med student I can almost assure you the pull out method won’t work for a long time. (Don’t come from me help I’m not a hater! I’m really just stating facts that you can search on any review article) It is highly risky because there are sooo many spermatozoa that are expelled before the ejaculation... but if it’s what you want then do it! And if anything happens and you get pregnant (which I think will happen at some point with this method) you will be a great mom and you love kids so damn much! So it’s all good either way!

This is the realest vid I’ve seen on KZbin. I can totally relate too! I have the mirena but I had my period for the first two months and nothing was “wrong” so my doctor was just like oh well wait it out. I got ultrasounds, went back on the pill for two weeks and nothing worked. I wanted to get it removed but also didn’t want to give up on it. I just got to the good part where everything is normal now and I love it!! Not being on birth control is totally okay and shouldn’t be looked down on. Do what’s best for you!

I got mine inserted two months ago and I haven’t stopped bleeding yet, how much longer did it take for you? I haven’t had any other issues yet though..My bf doesn’t mind when i’m bleeding so we’ve had sex since then, and he’s never mentioned feeling the strings... Now i’m kinda nervous things will go south 😂

Maddy Carnevale the only time it stopped in the two months is when I was taking two birth control pills a day for a week, my doctor thought it would stop the bleeding for good but it came right back after that week. It was just about two months. I got an ultrasound though to rule anything else out so I guess it just takes time for your body to adjust to hormones. Unless you’re in pain I’d say wait it out a little longer

I love ya Meghan, but please don't rely solely on the pull-out method. There is not really any scientific backing to it, and while your partner may do it right every time and you may not get pregnant, there could be someone watching this video who might follow what you're doing and end up getting pregnant. Pull-out method also does not protect against STDs :(

Yennifer Bland-Kelly I would consider you very very lucky. That does not typically happen. Couples who use the pull out method typically get pregnant within the first year. I do not believe people should encourage people to use the pull out method, ESPECIALLY teenagers. If you can use condoms or birth control, then do it

CRAZY. I had almost the exact same experience with my copper IUD, but a slightly different outcome- I wanted to share to give another perspective to some of the ladies that may still be interested! Same kinda thing- I initially had some discomfort, then the husbabe started complaining that he was being stabbed (poor lil guy), and ALAS! The IUD was literally coming out of my body. I ended up getting it reinserted, only for it to happen again. My gyno was amazing and kind and left the next-step decision totally up to me, but did inform me that IF I decided to get it re-reinserted, my body may eventually start to accept it. I decided that I’d give it ONE last shot, and if the same outcome persisted I’d simply have it removed. I can say that it has now been over a year later (woohoo) and I have had zero issues since my last insertion. I truly feel like my body eventually just got used to it being there. Of course, it may not be for everyone- some have no issues at all and some simply decide on an alternative- but I wanted to share my lil story as another frame of reference!

I LOVE YOU! I'm the same way. I was getting migraines and was depressed for years, so long in fact, that I forgot what it felt like to feel like myself. I went to a doctor of internal medicine and she told me I could try stopping the pill. My migraines disappeared. I laugh more, I feel more like myself. We know our own bodies! Since then, I have kept track of my periods and feel more in-tune with my body and its natural process. There are thermometers you can buy that'll keep track of your cycle and let you know when it's safe to have sex! You could always try that if condoms are becoming a hassle. Thank you for this! Love ya forever, -Alex

I'm a public health major and I love studying women's health and birth control. If you want to learn more about natural family planning, there's lots of effective methods such as the basal body temperature method and checking your cervical mucus. They're not necessarily the most effective, but if you love living the natural life, its totally something worth looking into too. Good luck girly!

Seriously put a remindr on your phone and call every single day, keep a planner or notebook and document every single time you talk to them. They will try to let it time out or for you to give up. Ugh that passage from the book, spot on! I have the Paraguard right now, and I actually have an appointment booked to have it removed in May. I will have had it for just under a year when I get it removed and it's been a frustrating one! I loved it in theory because it was the only hormone free option, but it has made my periods absolute hell.. So I had to make the decision to try another IUD because I didn't want to be "irresponsible" and go without birth control. Fingers crossed the new one works for me, because I don't think I'm willing to try anything else if it doesn't.

If you ever change your mind, I got the Nexplanon implant (hormonal birth control that is essentially a small plastic piece inserted almost painlessly into your upper inner arm) and have had it for a year now. Have had no issues besides small acne breakouts every few months so that’s dope! It lasts 3 years (or if you want it removed sooner of course!). My friends that have had heavy periods ended up with lighter ones and I myself, with an already light period prior this, have a VERY light one. Just my experience! Regardless, I respect your decision and am glad you’re expressing your independence in such a viscerally personal experience as a woman. Much luck and love!

although female contraceptives are an amazing thing & I do support them, it is really awesome to give your body a break and let your body exist in its natural feminine state and experience cycles naturally. I am fully aware that a vast majority of women use contraceptives for things other than preventing birth ( headaches, wanting shorter cycles, acne but it is really empowering sometimes to just embrace the female body and all that comes with it. love to all the sisters that use contraceptives & to those who choose to rock life with out it !!!!

I've had no real problems with Nexplanon (implant in the arm). The only weird thing I've had are just weird periods. I won't have a period for MONTHS and then I'll spot for a few weeks. The first time it happened I got REAL worried and called my gyno office freaking the heck out, and they told me that it was normal. Still freaks me out when I feel like I've been spotting for forever, but it does stop... eventually. But woohoo no regular periods, and (most importantly) no babies!!

Birth control sucks. I have been on hormonal birth control for many years. I hate that's it's able to control my body so much. More power to you for not just getting on the pill and calling it good. I appreciate your honesty and stories. It feels like I'm chatting with a good friend ❤️ My best friend had been looking into The Leaf, it's an ovulation/period tracker that can be used to avoid pregnancy as well. May be something to look into! Be safe!

She sounds like an incredibly shit doctor. IUDs were only initially not for those without children because they only did their studies on those that had already had them. It really had nothing to do with much else. There are now tons of different types for specific needs and body types. It sucks when doctors don’t listen to their patients and is incredibly frustrating. I’m sorry you had to deal with that but I’m glad you found an office that is great!

You should definitely leave a yelp review or something for the LA gyno... Lord knows no other women should be going to her! It sounds like she is not only woefully uninformed about birth control, but worst of all she doesn't care about the comfort and happiness of her patients!
@NeonPOP323
@NeonPOP323 6 жыл бұрын
She was a shit doctor, but I have to say the reason that a lot of GYN’s don’t recommend the IUD to women who haven’t given birth is because your cervix isn’t as open as it is after you have given birth. By giving birth, your cervix is more open, thus making insertion less painful. The fact that your gyno didn’t even assess these concerns to you shows how she’s not a legitimate gyn and should really be reported

Oh my goodness I'm so sorry this happened to you Meg! How your LA gyno treated you was unacceptable. That coupled with the stress of moving must have been so tough. I will say that your IUD video is what inspired me to get a Paragard coil for myself, and it is actually is working wonderfully for me and my body. For the first month the strings were painful for my partner as well, which my doctor never warned me about. But my strings did actually soften and are no longer an issue during sex (THANK GOD). I'm so sorry your IUD experience didn't go smoothly, but I'm so glad you informed me about Paragard. So now that you are using more natural birth control method, I would definitely tracking your fertility. There's some great apps out there that not only track your menstrual cycle but other factors like your daily body temperature to accurately track ovulation. But anyway all that aside, best of luck to you and Finley in the new place! I follow both of your socials and love everything you guys are doing in your home. My boyfriend and I just moved to a new state and got a place of our own as well. It's super cool seeing another couple accomplishing similar goals and figuring out this whole thing we call life. Love you Meg!! Stay smilin!

Taking birth control is being responsible & accountable.. just because you're not taking birth control and it's "on you", being 99.9% sure that you're not going to have kids is way more responsible that just leaving it up to you and your boyfriend.

from the time I was 16 until i was 27 I have suffered with 6 different types of birth control. I just couldn't do it anymore. So now I'm using the temperature method to track my fertile window and if there is a chance i'm fertile we use a condom. I honestly feel like women are bullied/shamed into taking birth control despite some horrible side effects including fatal blood clots. I agree that Meghan relying on "pulling out" is irresponsible, but it isn't irresponsible to seek out new ways to prevent pregnancy.

You should give nuvaring a try! It's kind of a happy in-between an IUD and a pill. You have to remember to switch it once a month but you insert it yourself so there aren't any uncomfortable doctors visits! It's also hormonal, and like you I have had a bad experience with the hormones in the pill, but I have yet to experience anything negative yet! (I'm only on my fourth month, so don't take what i say to be true for everyone but its worth looking into!)

Dude understanding your body and wanting to be in control is so admirable! We forget that IUD's or the pill aren't the only way. Some people act so scandalized if women don't want to be on the pill, lol. But it's such a long term thing! I've always hated the idea of something unnatural rewiring my body. My sister-in-law and brother have used the pull-out method for almost 5years and have never had issues, so there is always an alternative!! You should look into the fertility awareness method if you want to get off "traditional" birth controls. Rooting for u!
@Flushual
@Flushual 6 жыл бұрын
Bailey Will yeah, no. There are other ways such as condoms, but don't rely on the pull out method or the fertility awareness method. I can't explain it all to you in just a comment, but please educate yourself on this properly. Just because it worked on your sister in law does not mean it works for everyone else. I am an ongoing biology teacher, so please know this is not coming from a place of hate or anything. But it's risky to put false information out into the world.

Samantha Goodman then please suggest natural alternatives. I don’t want to get pregnant but I also don’t want to fuck up my body by using modern birth control. I’m not trying to put you down at all, but just giving my opinion; I don’t think being a biology teacher means much. I could have the same amount of knowledge as you without being a biology teacher. If you do know alternatives, then please actually share them. Some of us are desperate lmao

There aren't natural alternatives that are as effective as modern methods, that's why the invention of the pill was so revolutionary at the time. If you don't want to take a hormonal method then condoms would be the next most effective method, if used correctly.

Babbling Brook I’ve heard amazing things about the non-hormonal copper coil. Do some research- just because one pretty famous KZbinr has a negative experience with it does not mean everyone does. I am so sorry this experience happened to you at the gyno. I'm in school to be a physical therapist, so whenever I hear about bad customer service in the medical field I get so frustrated and I hope I'm never like that. Doctors can be really hard to deal with sometimes, but I've learned to be really assertive and tell them exactly what I want when I encounter doctors like that. I also wish women were more thoroughly educated about the pros AND cons of birth control so that we can make better decisions. I had a terrible experience with the DEPO shot, so I feel you girl. If you're looking into a non-hormonal, natural form of birth control, I HIGHLY recommend looking into the fertility awareness method. It takes some work to understand and use, but it's super effective if you do it correctly. FemmeHead here on youtube makes videos about it as well as educational videos about other female-related topics. I hope you have a wonderful day ily girl.

Love your story. Thanks for being honest and sharing with us. I was on the pill for a few years lost dosage of hormones. I was still having my periods but then we changed the dosage and that's when it screwed me over. Now I have thyroid issues and have also been depressed and gained weight etc. Now that I will be 30 next month and will be married for 3 years this year so I feel you and I DO NOT want to be on any more birth control now. Love you glad your experience in Oregon was great I really like my GYNO doctor here in my Oregon town she listens and yes the fact the she explains everything during an exam etc is so helpful and more comfortable. Love you girl stay true.

I had the same IUD experience!! I think when you did the insertion video I mentioned that mine was falling out! The main difference is my insertion was SO PAINFUL!! when they said it was falling out and I had to take it out I was like “never getting anything inserted again” then I got Nuva ring then I learned that lots of hormonal birth control have the side effect of FRICKEN DEATH and I was like “I’m just gonna track my periods, use fertility charts and go o’natural”. Also... I’m sorry it didn’t work for you☹️

It’s so crazy listening to your experience! I tried using oral birth control and I bled so much. I had just gotten off my period and I felt like bled forever. My doctor pointed out it wasn’t normal, I expressed interest in the IUD, and so far so good! I’m going on my second year. I use Skyla, which apparently is good for women who’ve had a c-section (me). I remember before I even got my IUD and after I had my son my period became so painful and irregular. My cramps felt like contractions, and my IUD helped everything get back to normal!

i also have the paraguard and i had had normal strength cramps for the first few months, nbd right, and suddenly out of nowhere i’m cramping so insanely bad when i’m not even menstruating, having these cramp attacks throughout the month, so i made an appointment to see my gyno who ALSO HAS BEEN SUPER SWEET UP TO THIS POINT, and she was snippy with me and saying “you know that’s normal with birth control” um to feel like i’m actually dying??? i have the highest pain tolerance but damn i was laying in bed crying the other night, feeling like i needed to go to the hospital. but no, it’s fine, this is normal, right? lmao now i’m super skeptical about this and also pissed that gynos downplay things and are incredulous to what we know is going on with our bodies.
