Being someone that came from a very unpredictable day to day life (abusive drug addicted mother) it's good to see what a normal mundane "routine core" vibe is like so I can sort of regulate my own patterns. Hi Meghan! I’m 6 months pp and I agree with the minimal approach. We did splurge on the stroller and crib, because it goes from bassinet to toddler bed. I’ve used both items every single day. The other thing that is an essential for me is a baby carrier. I would research ergonomic ones. I got one from ergo baby and it ended up not working. I spoke with a lady that teaches how to baby wear properly and decided to buy another one. I love the brand Neko Slings because of the fabric and how easy they’re to use. I breastfeed so I’m glad I didn’t buy tons of bottles etc. I figured back then that I would buy as needed. And that has been my moto ever since. It avoids having unnecessary items for your particular needs. So listen to your mommy intuition, think about yourself and what you think you’ll need and use and go from that. And do prep food, I wished I would’ve prepared more in that aspect.

A big postpartum food tip - A big jar of some homemade snack mix to keep beside the bed for when you might be nap-trapped (baby asleep on you), or just hungry during nursing or in the middle of the night! I had something like: tamari almonds, shreddies cereal, some kind of dried fruits, cashews, dark chocolate, dried ginger chunks, even some little crackers in there. Chillis were my love during early postpartum --- warm and satiating and Bonus points for corn bread as well! As well -- Wooden or plastic cutlery came in super clutch for eating over/near a sleeping baby! No clanging of metal spoon on bowl.

Yes, I am loving that you aren't getting caught up in all of the consumerism that can come with having a baby. So much of it is a huge money suck and waste. Take it from this momma of 3 whose oldest is turning 22. Thrift what you can, keep it simple, and create a baby capsule wardrobe. I gave birth to all of my children all naturally. I like being busy while I'm in labor. Music was a must for me. I love a warm shower.

I’m 5 weeks postpartum at the moment! One thing to keep in mind while freezing meals for the fourth trimester is bub’s little belly! I love curries so I made a bunch of them and they upset my baby’s tummy so much and make her gassy! 😂 So definitely think about things that might make you go to the toilet, might do the same to your baby 🤍 stir fry dishes, fried rice, lentil stews are great. I am three months PP and I too struggled with the insane consumerism surrounding motherhood and the guilt embedded in not purchasing the ‘must haves’. I prioritized ergonomic hip healthy items. The one splurge my baby loves is the bjorn bouncer. A good soft carrier and more structured one is also a must! Other than that just lots of burp cloths. You never know what kind of bottle or paci the babe will like too so maybe check out if there’s any sample packs- my girl loved the MAM bottle. The next thing I wanted to mention is that my birth plan was quite similar to you but unfortunately it went the complete other way. Baby and I are healthy. One thing I wish I did was a hospital tour before so if just in case I had to go I was prepared and could visualize what that would be like.
