I know it was campy, but seeing Tony go without the suit for a big portion of the movie and see what he can do as just a human, I can say top 5 of my favorites of the MCU.

Something to be noted about Tony's narcissism, is that normally narcissist surround themselves with people who'll sort of praise them and won't really oppose them in some way or another, and if we look at Tony, who's this rich genius, it seems like, for him, it'd be really easy for him to find people like that and surround himself with those people. However, he chooses to surround himself with people like Pepper, Happy and Rhodey who don't take his crap and will straight up call him out on his nonsense and this coupled with the fact that he even made Jarvis to be this sort of sarcastic and witty AI really speaks volumes to Tony's character. Edit: By the way, love your reactions. You guys seem like a really cute couple 😊💕 .

There are different levels of it, and unlike most he can actually back it up. But after IM2 he is also smart and aware enough to keep his critics close, because maybe they have a point.

I don't know that he's really a narcissist, he's just got a big enough ego to match his ridiculous talent. textbook narcissism has someone thinking highly of themself and lesser of others, and usually emotionally discarding them as worthless. Tony is none of that. he knows exactly how talented he is, but he also knows his own shortcomings and is always actively working to better himself. he also loves easily and deeply, and keeps people around who aren't yes-men because he knows they'll help keep him sharp edged. he never boasts about anything outside of his actual abilities, and he never thinks more of himself than he actually is. he's also constantly full of self doubt, ever since his first movie, and a narcissist never doubts themself

27:47 Mark! After my first viewing, I told older people in line with me, that the movie is told in flashback as part of a therapy session and if they wanted to see who the therapist was then they should stay through the end credits. I was vindicated whenever they did stay and I heard their laughter! Afterward I would get thanks! 😊

I will never for the life of me understand the outrage for the fake mandarin twist.i believe it was brilliant & great commentary on our society at large. While we paying attention to this, we not paying attention to the real threat in the shadows.

I have come to really like IM3 personally. However, the buildup before the movie came out about The Ten Rings and that Iron Man would finally face his Arch-Enemy from the comics, The Mandarin. It was a really big deal. So for those of us who had grown up on the comics, the sudden fake out seemed like we got cheated out of him facing his Big Bad. But like I say, having seen the other films this one fits in very well and is lots of fun. There are SO many other things to love about this film.
@JustShin11
@JustShin11 2 жыл бұрын
@@testfire3000 i grew up too on the comics as well & while i was shocked at 1st when i 1st saw this twist in theaters years ago, i never felt cheated because for me as i was thinking about the film as a whole & what it was trying to say & i stand by now that i did even then that it was brilliant. not to mention the comics themselves never stay the same so i never expect the films based off of them to either. more creactivity comes from that i feel like this film.

Umm it’s pretty easy to understand. Fans of the iron man comic book were pissed. Was that not obvious
@JustShin11
@JustShin11 Жыл бұрын
@Parker Animations let me rephrase then so you'll understand. As someone who also grew up on these comics, I also don't mind creative changes in the story every so often. Especially when adapting to another medium. I'm not saying all Changes are good of course not. But that in itself it subjective. But even now it seems alot of fans are clinging to the same reason why it's not good. That they "ruined" the mandarin & no other reason. Being willfully blind in my opinion to both the outside writing/storyboard for the film for why the change but also how it affects the overall plot & how as I stated how brilliant it is when you think about it. So when i say I don't understand the outrage, I'm saying there reasons for disliking it in my opinion is silly. Especially when even in the comics they change things up every so often. Which I'd expected given these characters are 60 plus years old.

I've never once disliked IM3. Always loved it, I just don't like the part where he gives the press his home address and was totally ill prepared for what followed. That was not true to his character but then again he's always been taking risks and has had an egotistic personality.😂

Just a friendly reminder/fyi if you two have any interest in watching Agents of Shield, even if it's on your own off camera, it picks up right after this. I'd also highly recommend watching the short but sweet and really fun Agent Carter series, which does have Haley Atwell returning as Peggy and has Dominic Cooper reprising his role as Howard, with the added bonus of introducing you to the real life Jarvis, who you are sure to love, played by James D'Arcy. A couple of other great Marvel series to keep in mind while making your way through the franchise, Daredevil with Charlie Cox who makes you forget all about the craptacular Ben Affleck movie and the Punisher series with Jon Bernthal who too makes you forget all about the previous attempts to bring to the big screen. The Punisher is actually introduced in the Daredevil series before spinning off on it's own, and last but certainly not least is the often overlooked Jessica Jones, which has an absolute killer first season with arguably the best villain in the entire MCU! Unlike Agents of Shield these shows are relatively separate from the cinematic MCU, with only Daredevil having any tie ins, which came about recently with Spider Man: No Way Home and the Hawkeye series. Though there is hope that Punisher and Daredevil will make it into the cinematic universe in the future with Charlie and Jon reprising their roles. P.S. if you jump into Agents of Shield make sure to pull up a watchlist so you don't jump ahead or fall behind.

@@sujitranjan816 I know that… (sorry I probably should have mentioned that) but I still don’t get how that makes it a bad movie. That being said I really only followed Spider-Man and the X-Men before the mcu movies, I didn’t know who the Mandarin was until this movie so I’m probably just bias.

One thing important to keep in mind is the MCU can't necessarily be treated like a regular set of movies. It is more like an ongoing series. So often times things left unresolved are picked up later on in another project. (I will spoil that it isn't with her, but I just wanted to point that out as something to keep in mind). Also, you guys should totally do a reaction to the six one-shots. They're all on Disney+ under the Marvel One-Shots section. There's a couple of jokey ones after but those aren't canon. These are: The Consultant (based on the post-credit scene for The Incredible Hulk) A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor's Hammer Item 47 (based on Avengers fallout) Agent Carter (based on The First Avenger fallout) All Hail The King (Iron Man 2 and 2 fallout) All together they aren't even an hour, so you could get through them quickly. They aren't necessary but they do add some context/world building, and are fun.

@@jamesisaacson6379 Stan Lee didn't steal anything lol. He was a showman who exaggerated a lot and was a master of self-promotion, but he always credited Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, and their contributions to Marvel. The way Marvel treated Kirby and Ditko was wrong, but that was the company, not Stan himself. As for the MCU being a failure since Endgame, I'm not sure how you've reached that conclusion. All the tv shows have been hits, and No Way Home and Multiverse Of Madness have both done amazingly at the box-office. Black Widow and Eternals aren't the best MCU movies, but they're far from the worst either. Also, calling it the MsheU is hilarious. Male characters still far outweigh female characters, and so far we've only had 1 show and 2 movies with female leads. Marvel comics has always had plenty of strong female characters since they first started publishing superhero comics in the 1960s, so getting upset about them finally appearing in the MCU is ridiculous.

Some small details Aldrich Killian played by Guy Pearce was first introduced in Iron Man vol. 4 #1 (Ja. 2005). The "Fake" Mandarin reveal was a big complaint very controversial as a lot of fans expected the real Mandarin from the comic's but instead we got some actor called Trevor Slattery. After all these years I personality don't mind it, no spoilers but the great movie Shang-Chi from 2021 answers some questions and in my opinion it makes the twist in this movie so much better. Shang-Chi is in Phase 4 so there's a long way to go lol The Iron Patriot armour worn by Rhodes is quite different from it's comics counterpart. In the comic's James Rhodes never donned the Iron Patriot Armor until after Iron Man 3 came out which inspired a story arc where his comic counterpart wears the armour. Instead, in the comics, Norman Osborn (Spider-Man’s arch nemesis, the Green Goblin) was the first to wear the Armor, as part of his scam S.H.I.E.L.D replacement following Secret Invasion. In terms of appearance the armour from the movie and comic are spot on it's really just the origin story that changed. Will not go into what Secret Invasion was or is as the MCU is confirmed to have a Secret Invasion show in 2023 I believe or maybe late 2022 so speaking on the comic could spoil the movie. But pretty much Norman Osborn was the first Iron Patriot with the concept of the Iron Patriot then being used in the MCU with James Rhodes which then inspired the idea of him wearing it in the comic's lol One example of how the MCU was inspired by a comic and in return inspired a future Marvel comic story or character design change. Should also note that at the time Sony was holding onto Spider-Man so it was impossible for Marvel to use characters like Peter Parker (Spider-Man) or Norman Osborn (Green Goblin) even though in the comic's they all existed together under Marvel comic's Disney and Marvel Studios just didn't have the movie rights to Spider-Man. Thankfully Sony opened up and made a deal in 2014 to let Marvel Studios use Spider-Man, characters related to him like friends and villains which is why there's three MCU Spider-Man movies within the MCU. If Marvel didn't sell the movie rights all the way back in the 1990s to Sony then who knows maybe Spider-Man would've shown up in Phase One. But of course if Marvel didn't sell the rights to Sony then we would've never gotten the Sam Rami movies. Without this hype surrounding Marvel maybe the MCU would've never existed if the Rami Spider-Man movies were never made. This is the same with the F4 who no doubt would've shown up in Phase One. If Fox didn't own the movie rights for the X-Men we could've gotten to see Mutants and the X-Men in the MCU but again like Spider-Man we wouldn't of gotten the 2000s X-Men movies which pretty much kickstarted the heavy focus on Superhero movies in the 2000s without this Superhero movie's wouldn't be as big. The Organization know A.I.M (Advanced Idea Mechanics) is very important within the comic's. their frontmen or guards i guess were depicted in their iconic yellow hazmat suits alongside characters like M.O.D.O.K giving them a really cool artistic. M.O.D.O.K unfortunately isn't seen at all in the MCU but he did show up in the Iron Man 3 game but as it contains several plot points that contradict the established canon of the Marvel so it's safe to say that the game is non-canon to the movies. Overall an okay movie I just wish they did more with A.I.M as in the comic's they play a massive part in many characters and villains stories hopefully they return in a future movie or show maybe introducing MODOK who will bring back A.I.M a story I really hope happens as he's such a cool villain. Thor: The Dark World is next which is another mixed movie more so than Iron Man 3 but then you got Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy two of the best MCU movies so i'm excited for them. You also then have Avengers: Age of Ultron the 2nd Avengers movie which you'll no doubt enjoy even though at the time it was a little mixed. It does built up alot of future stuff but of course at the time people didn't know this but I do think the movie is better once you re-watch it after seeing the future movies. And finally Antman which is the final Phase 2 movie. Phase 3 then starts with Captain America: Civil War and let me tell you Phase 3 will blow you away my favourite phase so far but who knows maybe Phase 4 will blow me away.

Hey, Meg and Caleb! The fanbase was sharply divided over this Iron Man installment for two major deviations from the comics: the Mandarin and AIM. Ben Kingsley was admittedly hilarious as Trevor and the revelation that he's merely a paper tiger facade for Killian was completely unexpected. However, the Mandarin is Tony's nemesis and one of Marvel's great villains. When he was reduced to a laughingstock, it frustrated all the expectations the trailers had built up for a live-action showdown between these major opponents. The other disappointment was that AIM was reduced to a corporation run by Killian when it's supposed to be a major terrorist organization comparable to Hydra but comprised of rogue scientists! The movie also uses PTSD as a substitute for Tony's notorious alcoholism but this deviation still helps to ground the character and humanize him for audiences nevertheless. The plot is adapted from the "Extremis" storyline written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Adi Granov which propelled the character into the 21st-century. The Mandarin is a top-tier Marvel villain who deserves a special note. He was created by Stan Lee in 1964 debuting in issue # 50 of the title that was running Iron Man's adventures at the time called "Tales of Suspense". He goes by many aliases such as Eugene Khan, Zhang Tong and Tem Borijgin but none know his real name. He is the bi-racial product of an aristocratic Chinese family from pre-Communist China who claim descent from Genghis Khan. Orphaned at an early age, he was raised by a bitter dowager aunt whose hate for the Communist regime was exceeded only by her hate for the West! A boy prodigy, she spent every last bit of his fortune training him in science, history and combat until they could no longer pay taxes and were evicted by the government from his ancestral estate. Now a proud young man with a grudge against the world, he explored a hidden valley none dare enter and makes a remarkable find: a spaceship with the corpse of a dragon-like pilot from a world called Maklu IV. This find explains the motif of intelligent dragons in Chinese folklore. He spends years mastering the technology which confers upon him longevity and the ten control rings that power the ship. Each ring has a specific function and can be wielded independent of the ship as weapons. He easily seizes the area around the valley which draws in the government whom he intimidates into a detente where they agree to shelter him and turn a blind eye to his machinations so long as he doesn't molest China. He moves his center of operations to the Gobi desert and begins his plans for world conquest. More recently, he has modernized his outfit into a legitimate corporation to advance his nefarious agenda. Perceived as a culturally insensitive "yellow peril" stereotype in collusion with the Chinese government, a true rendering of the character would have prevented distribution of "Iron Man 3" in the lucrative Asian market so the Ten Rings became a logo and the Mandarin himself became a joke. Feige attempted to correct this egregious misrepresentation in the One-Shot "All Hail the King" and the movie "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" but still came up short. Shane Black, who directed RDJ in the excellent neo-noir "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", handles this entry as if it were more of a techno-thriller than a clash of armored titans like the last two. It's a smart move and a faithful translation of the source material which has Tony out of his armor for most of the film! The relationship with young Harley is amusing and affecting presaging his mentorship of Peter Parker. The destruction of the Malibu mansion and the human chain skydive rescue are thrilling highlights! The cast, as always, is excellent headed by Robert Downey, Jr. playing Tony Stark aka Iron Man for the fifth time now accompanied by his regular stable of Don Cheadle as Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes rebranded as Iron Patriot, Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia 'Pepper' Potts, Jon Favreau as Harold 'Happy' Hogan and Paul Bettany as JARVIS. Paltrow, in particular, gets to perform some amazing action both in and out of some armor! Ty Simpkins as the young Harley Keener, in whose cluttered garage runaway Tony flops, is excellent as an unwitting, pint-sized therapist. Shaun Toub returns for a Yinsen cameo set in 1999. Guy Pearce plays a lean and hungry Aldrich Killian nursing a hateful grudge with a perpetual sneer and running two evil organizations: his company, Advanced Idea Mechanics, which fronts for a mock Ten Rings terrorist cell. Ben Kingsley does a menacing job as the Mandarin and delivers a brilliant comedic turn as sleazy Trevor Slattery. The lovely Rebecca Hall is appropriately tragic as the spurned Maya Hansen. James Badge Dale is savage as the lead Extremis operative Savin. Stephanie Szostak, as another Extremis goon named Brandt, has a vicious throwdown with Tony. William Sadler plays President Ellis, a role he reprises in "Agents of SHIELD", and Miguel Ferrer plays treacherous Vice President Rodriguez. Character actors Spencer Garrett and Dale Dickey have bit parts as a Tennessee sheriff and barfly, respectively. TRIVIA: 1. Shane Black sets every movie he directs at Christmastime and "Iron Man 3" is no different. EASTER EGGS: 1. The dragon tattoos on Killian's chest are of the Makluan dragon and Iron Man antagonist Fin Fang Foom! 2. The red, white and blue armor and Iron Patriot moniker are references to when Spidey villain Norman Osborn wore the suit in command of the Dark Avengers! 3. The company the accountant hostage worked for, Roxxon, is the Marvel Comics equivalent of Exxon, a multinational petrochemical juggernaut! CAMEO: 1. Stan Lee appears as a gleefully generous judge of the beauty pageant issuing a score of '10'! END-CREDIT SCENE: 1. Tony recounts his adventure to a half-asleep Bruce Banner who protests that his doctorate doesn't qualify him to practice psychiatric therapy before Tony ignores him and goes on an even deeper dive into his childhood! The gag reveals that the entire movie has been a flashback from this session! The next chronological stop in the MCU are the first seven episodes of Season 1 of "Agents of SHIELD" followed by the One-Shot featurette "All Hail the King" in which we catch up with Justin Hammer and Trevor Slattery in jail. The featurette is found on the "Thor: The Dark World" blu-ray or on DPlus.

his ptsd was real. even in his alcoholism he could sleep, and sleep fully. as someone who suffers from c-ptsd and anxiety based insomnia, it was used correctly. him going into that wormhole in the avengers and then seeing those alien beasts every time he closed his eyes, yeah that'll cause one not to want to sleep for fear of being back where the nightmares began. so you're incorrect on that one.

@@sersastark Serah, I never said his PTSD wasn't portrayed accurately. I was noting that what hamstrings Tony in the comics is his alcoholism which is barely touched on in the films. It is central to his character but PTSD was used as a substitute on film because Disney didn't want to go near the booze. The PTSD serves the same function as the alcoholism does in the comics: it provides Tony a humanizing flaw. If there is any kind of anxiety he suffers from in the comics, it is that he is a futurist who can predict ten steps ahead of anyone else but is often not believed much like the curse of Cassandra in Greek mythology. I gather from your remarks that you are not overly familiar with old school Iron Man comics. There is a very famous arc devoted to Tony hitting rock bottom and turning over his Iron Man duties to Rhodey for years called "Demon in a Bottle".

A lot of ths comics fans don't like this one, because of its treatment of the Mandarin and AIM, and I get where they're coming from. But all the cool suits and Tony's character development make it my favorite of the Iron Man movies.
