Most people today will never understand the impact of seeing Emma Roberts in this role, to a lot of us she was just this Nickelodeon actress from unfabulous. How times have changed 💀

This movie has balls. In an era where Hollywood was churning out horror remakes left and right with the hot new actors of the time, Scream came out of an 11 year hiatus to clown on the whole situation. They marketed this movie as a “passing of the torch”, every magazine/online article was talking about Emma Roberts and crew taking over and carrying on the franchise to possibly Scream 5, 6, 7. Then the movie comes out and literally kills every single new cast member instead. (yes I know of the retcon in Scream 6 with a certain character but don’t want to spoil Meg/Caleb) Honestly bravo to Wes and Kevin and the studio for allowing a sequel where all the hot new talent is wiped out while only keeping the ever aging adults alive. “Don’t fuck with the original”

the fate of this character that came back later was left ambiguous on purpose by wes craven himself

@@tgabz You don’t need to school me on Scream. I already know the original plans for the ending of 4 that would’ve lead into an alternate Scream 5-6. But the end result is what we got and until Radio Silence came on board, most of the fandom figured that this certain character was dead and buried with a few holding out hope. Those few were rewarded with the Easter Egg in 5 and the full blown appearance in 6 but again, until the requels, this character was assumed dead.

The 2010s was the era of reboots and remakes that changed the original material. People thought Emma Roberts was going to be the new final girl of Scream when it came out so her being the killer was a big shock. The main young cast is a mirrored version of the original. The new final girl, Jill, is the killer alongside the new Randy, Charlie. Trevor, the creepy boyfriend is actually innocent. Judy is the new Dewey, Rebecca the new Gale, and so on. So, remake characters with a twist, like every 2010s remake, which are referenced in that scene with Kirby on the phone with the killer.
@RandellBowers26 күн бұрын
Just an FYI - the original ending was a cliffhanger with Jill being wheeled out on the stretcher. They added the fourth act/hospital scene last minute. The next film was going to pick up with Sidney having amnesia.
@DXChrisCross25 күн бұрын
Yup, and a new Ghostface was going to be hunting Jill, while she tries to cover her tracks. Jill was ultimately going to be made into an antihero.

I wish they kept this because Jill surviving and being in jail would create so many storylines for sequels.
@lordmorklen516628 күн бұрын
I didn't see the reveal coming because it was Emma Roberts - this was the first time she played a negative character. And then she was typecasted and we got Scream Queens and AHS - which basically outed her for Caleb, ironically.

Wonderful reaction! Jill is arguably the most vicious antagonist in the entire Scream franchise. Her motivation is ahead of its time and still relevant-maybe even more so-today. A bit of useless trivia: Marley Shelton (Deputy Judy) was cast as Gothic heroine Victoria Winters in the 2004 unaired pilot reboot of the classic vampire soap opera, Dark Shadows.

I remember when this movie first came out, I loved Jill but thought the motive was kind of corny, but rewatching now, it's actually very scary and almost realistic! I was reading this article the other day about how teachers will ask little kids what they want to be when they grow up and instead of saying things like firefighter or doctor, they're now saying influencer or youtuber. It makes me think of Jill's line where she scoffs at the idea of going to college and working.

What got Jill into the murders was that she felt overlooked and inferior all her life, and it got worse when Trevor cheated on her with Jenny. In my opinion, this is the best film in the franchise. Jill is a very scary Ghostface killer.

One time, he and I were on the phone and right before I ended the call I said to him "Hey Ant, before I hang up I just got one more thing to say: Fuck Bruce Willis". He thought about it for a couple of seconds then started laughing his ass off lol

Meg, I'm shocked you haven't reacted to The Cabin In The Woods yet. It's another meta horror, with a lot of comedy. Also, might I suggest A Perfect Getaway - not a horror film, but a suspense/mystery that's set in the most beautiful part of Hawai'i - starring Timothy Olyphant, Milla Jovovich, and Chris Hemsworth.

For the longest time this was the last Scream movie I could bring myself to watch. After Wes Craven passed it didn’t feel right seeing anything he created without him in the world. Sadly this movie didn’t get a good reception both box office and for just being ahead of its time. Movie was great and it showed the strides Sidney, Dewey and Gale had made in the years between the original trilogy and now. Sidney using her story to inspire others Dewey still being Woodsboro’s protector and Gale being his lovey wife. Jill was like Michelle Carter on steroids unlike the past killers she had a perfect good life family friends and was more than willing to give it all up for the fantasy of being a survivor.

its not that gale thinks that dewey is incompetent, granted she used him in scream 1 and in scream 2 and scream 3 she knew that he was a very good detective. gale gave up her journalism life for dewey so that they could be married. when she said at the police station "we solved these 3 times you and me" she was feeling like herself again: a reporter who solved mysteries with her bestfriend, dewey. with him being the sheriff and no longer being a deputy he has certain guidelines he has to follow and hes also trying to protect her. she knows it, but theyve never been by the book to begin with and thats why shes hurt.

You guys are giving Gale too much leeway in this movie. It's not her position to investigate anymore because she's not a journalist. She's trying to weasel her way into the murder investigation because she has writers block and can't write anything unless it's the Ghostface killings. She's also making her husband's job needlessly harder while he's trying to keep a town calm and safe. I like Gale lot, but she is not in the right on this one.

Scream 😱 6 is the best in the franchise
@BadassRaiden27 күн бұрын
This is probably my least favorite Scream. Emma Roberts acting is great but, the motives of her character of "I'm so tired of hearing Sydney Sydney Sydney, so I'm gonna go crazy and kill people and pretend to be a victim so they will stop talking about Sydney Sydney Sydney and talk about me," I find to be remarkably cringe and lazy, and really unbelievable honestly. The motives of all the other killers were at least reasonable the way I see it.
@5i.26027 күн бұрын
None of the motives are reasonable though. Killing people because "peer pressure" is not reasonable. Killing people because your mom left you is not reasonable. Killing people because you wanted a revenge for your psychopath son is not reasonable. Killing people because your mom moved on and be jealous of your sister's fame, which happened because of you is both dumb and not reasonable.
@anomalysakawendy509614 күн бұрын
The motive here is ahead of its time. Jill didn't want to go to college and work for what she wants. Jill wanted the shortcut of viral fame from clicks, likes, and followers. Like so many otherwise ordinary folks can stumble into these days with YT and such.
@BadassRaiden14 күн бұрын
@@5i.260 I didn't mean reasonable in an ethical or moral sense. I meant it in an understanding of the human psyche sense. People are peer pressured into committing crimes, including murder. People have been so traumatized from having their family broken up that they have had psychotic breaks and went on a murder spree. Having a psychotic break after your child is murdered, regardless of whether or not they themselves were psychotic, and going on a killing spree is not improbable. Killing people because your parent left you/abandoned you and a sibling got what you felt you deserved is not unheard of. These are all things that can be so traumatic they can lead to causing an individual to have a psychotic break with reality and become dangerous to themselves and others.
@5i.26014 күн бұрын
@@BadassRaiden pretty sure sometimes killers don't have a good reason to kill. They don't have sad backstory and tragic life, they just happened to be jealous and pure evil for the sake of it. I really like this aspect of Jill. She wasn't mentally ill, influenced, broken, just absolutely evil bitch. It's not deep, but it is what it is 🤷♂️
@BadassRaiden14 күн бұрын
@5i.260 I'm not saying she needs a sad backstory or tragic life. Jealously is one thing, and so is evil, but that's not all she was and the additional part that they wrote for her motive I just find to be laughably ridiculous and absurd. It wasn't just that she was jealous, it's that she was annoyed. It wasn't just that she was tired of hearing her family talk about Sydney and she wanted to be the one they talked about; it was the fact that she was just plain tired of hearing them talk about Sydney. Her annoyance with hearing about Sydney all the time and that driving her essentially mad, or being the thing that pushed her over the edge if she was already mad - such a motive just feels so lazy and dumb because of how laughable that excuse is, and honestly how unbelievable that excuse is. Jealously makes people kill, that's totally real and probable, but it wasn't simply jealousy. It was legit because she was sick of hearing "Sydney, Sydney, Sydney." Like, if I had a family member try to kill me because their immediate circle of family or friends was always talking about me, and they got so annoyed hearing about me non-stop that they were driven to murder me, I'd be like "are you fucking kidding me? *That's* the reason??" Obviously none of the other motives (with the exception of Billy's mother) are because of any actions Sydney herself took. On the other hand, if I had a girlfriend who was like "your slut mom tore apart my home which made my mom abandon me and that's why I killed her and why I'm gonna kill you" obviously it wasn't my fault and I'd be like why do you want to kill me for something my mother did, but I would at least be able to understand that that event must have had such a cataclysmic effect on her psyche that it caused her to do this, and that it is *believable* that it might have had such a cataclysmic effect that it would cause this. That's the thing for me, the believability. I mean her character literally says she was tired of hearing about Sydney. The idea that that is what would make someone have a break in reality, or go mad, or be the last straw that breaks a mad camels back that causes them to start murdering people just makes me laugh because it sounds so dumb. If she was already mad or not, I simply don't believe this whole being annoyed hearing about Sydney all the time would believably cause her behavior. Jealousy yes, but they didn't write her as just being jealous, they wrote her as being annoyed at Sydney, and that is just plain dumb. The whole thing about her planning to kill them and be the sole survivor so they would talk about her instead and she'd be famous, I can get behind that as a motive. If that's the case, then they should have removed all the bits about her professing how annoyed she was listening to her family talk about Sydney all the time. They could have wrote it exclusively like a lightbulb moment where the jealously kicks in and she realizes everyone is talking about Sydney because of what happened to her, and that if she had that happen to her too everyone would talk about her instead, and that's when she got the idea to plan all this and be the sole survivor. But they didn't, and here we are. It was 'I was annoyed first, and then became jealous, and then had the idea for the plan.' For me the annoyance aspect just makes her character as written by her motives to be really stupid and frankly undermines the "absolutely evil bitch" part.
