I just received my Mego Starsky & Hutch figures yesterday, courtesy of eBay. I'd always wanted them when I was a kid but, unfortunately, never got them. Now, at 48 years old, I finally have them in my collection.

Now Starsky and Hutch was at least a line that I remember from my childhood. I don't think that I had any of them, But I definitely remember seeing them on the pegs. Nice review of a small Mego line. Thank you.

I never saw Starsky and Hutch as a kid, but I know I would have loved it like I did CHiPs and the Dukes of Hazzard. It wasn't until 1999 when Starsky and Hutch aired on the TNN channel that I finally began watching the series and I was able to collect most of the MEGO figures except Chopper. And I also got the Torino. Out of all the figures, only Starsky's clothes were what I saw on the show. In addition to not having guns and holsters, Starsky and Hutch never had any jackets either. Fonzie's leather jacket would have been good with Starsky. But I love this line and I'm glad I was able to collect it.

That was really interesting, thank you for posting. I loved watching Starsky and Hutch as a child in the UK, but never knew there was once a Mego toy line. I miss being able to go into toy shops in the 70's and just being blown away by all the figure lines...

I had both Starsky and Hutch, but no others... I still remember my mum buying me the 😁

One of the strange things about getting old is when you look back at something you remember as a massive cultural phenomenon and realise how brief it was.
@BrickMantooth4 жыл бұрын
yeah I've noticed that too.
@ian_b4 жыл бұрын
@@BrickMantooth Maybe it was better though, thinking about it. Rather than this massive franchise properties thrashing about trying to find meaning in a changing world like Star Wars, Star Trek etc. At least something like Starsky And Hutch remains rooted in its time and cultural context.

@@BrickMantooth I also remember having another line of figures from a show that was great. S.W.A.T. Special Weapons And Tactics. They all had blue "uniforms", a bullet proof vest, a M-16 tactical rifle, a pistol and some other accessories but I can't remember exactly what you received. These were also Mego Toys from the 1970's. I'm sure you have them somewhere. Time to go search. Those are some of my favorite Mego figures. BTW, I love your channel and your choices of videos! Great work sir!

I had Starsky & Hutch, along with the car. I'll never understand why they came up with those clothes, considering they never wore anything like that. Especially since they wore jackets all the time to hide their gun holsters. (Luckly, I had some other Mego clothes to fix that problem). The car was cool, but those sticker decals for the white stripes really stunk. & the car's motor burned out in less then a year.

I still to this day find it wildly amusing that Mego released what is essentially a Pimp action figure. Ah the 70’s.

Crazy as it seems, 'Huggy Bear' was probably more popular amongst white school kids of the 70s, than Starsky and Hutch.
@EdsterIII2 жыл бұрын
@@johnpatterson4272 No he wasn't, BUT he was "cool" and since he was the anti-establishment or anti-hero he was the bad guy kids liked/digged! But no he wasn't more popular than Starsky & Hutch. I had buddies who all had the Starsky & Hutch figures and car. Nobody had the huggie bear figure.
@johnpatterson42722 жыл бұрын
@@EdsterIII I recall the 'WASPY' kids at my elementary school would discuss the latest episode of 'Starsky and Hutch' during recess the next day after the show aired. Everybody wanted a model of the red and white 2-door Ford Gran Torino car. Few sought-out the actual action figures of the 2 main stars. Yet everybody wanted a 'Huggy Bear' figure, in all his pimpin' glory. You're right, 'HB' held a certain 'rebel cool' factor that was never seen, nor witnessed in real-life by my generation in my small town during the 70s. There were few Starsky and Hutch toys/merchandise products available where I lived back-in-the-day. The 'Huggy Bear' toy figure was never available for sale, but I do recall the parents of another Grade 7 student I knew owned an actual limited edition Gran Torino automobile. Complete with a roll-bar and mag-wheels.

Action Jackson Spy Outfit walkie talkie and shoulder holster/revolver, sweet for Mego S&H, wouldn't mind picking up a Rookies police car radio some time for the Torino too

When I was in grade 7, there was another popular kid in school who's parents actually owned and drove the Starsky and Hutch lookalike Ford Torino car. That was the epitome of prepubescent cool in the mid-70s. Again, more toys and action-figures never available in my town.

I like that line, very much of the era. Clever scale shrink in the car, toy-centric but it gets the job done. ;) Really nice staging in the catalog, good use of standee props. Too bad Huggy Bear never made it out.
