@@rosemaryalles6043 It was literally the fakest thing. Again, it came off as super weird. There were literally production members that were calling him racist for covering her song, calling it racist that his cover went number one and her original version did not, so it is easy to understand why it came off as weird. To me and yes lots of others it came off as corny, and uncomfortable to watch. I am a fan of Tracy, but his duet was comical.

Luke Combs said his father used to play this song and he had always loved it. He remade it exactly as it was - didn’t change anything. The way the left (WaPo) reacted was outrageous and obnoxious and infuriating. Two people from different worlds coming together in mutual respect with this song. It was awesome and inspiring.

Below is from the Washington Post. They called their performance the highlight of the night. You have no idea what leftists think, feel, or know. Get over yourself. Everyone loved it. Apparently, you weren't listening to their wonderful performance. Instead, you were digging around to say something unkind and obnoxious. How sad that you heard the song but missed the moment. It was very moving. And it was performed by 2 of the sweetest people ever to grace a stage. "Luke Combs has always said that Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” is one of his favorite songs of all time, which is why he decided to cover it - he had no idea it would become one of his biggest hits. As the camera focused on Chapman (who rarely performs in public) during her duet with Combs, the audience cheered wildly. You could feel the glee radiating off Combs as he stared at Chapman in awe as they sang; Chapman strummed her guitar, looking happy and serene. The collaboration resulted in a huge standing ovation."

You’re stirring up the same mess. A few race baiters doesn’t mean the left was mad. And a few racists who left insulting messages about her doesn’t mean the right was mad. When either side highlights the worst of other side we end up in these stupid culture wars. I’m listening to her first album right now, it’s incredibly soul soothing and a reminder that we are more similar than different

I love that Luke Combs covered Tracy Chapman's Fast Car. Not only did he introduce this beautifully written song to a whole new generation but, he also introduced the song to a different region of the country. The reason that song became #1 on the Country Charts is the themes in that song are universal ; economic struggles, Abandonment, Alcoholism,& longing to escape to a better life. Since Tracy Chapman is not only the songwriter she also owns the publishing rights. So Luke Combs recording is not only making her a lot of money ; she just made history by winning a CMA 4 song of the year I've always loved this song & when I heard Luke Combs rendition it was perfect not over done ,he allowed her words to tell this sad yet beautiful story.

@@Ace-gi4bp Ummm it wasn't released as a country song, that's no riddle. What is the matter with you? When Tracy Chapman released it back in 88, the song was at the top 6 on the Billboard charts of her music genre. Riddle me why you are throwing out ridiculous negativity? This was a beautiful moment for her. I wept throughout the performance, seeing the tears in her own eyes at the recognition and appreciation she felt. I bet you are super fun at parties. When Luke Combs covered that song I wasn't expecting to like it but I loved it. And I still remember when that song came out in the 80s. It gave me goose bumps then as it does now. It's a wonderful song!

Great performance, and the lyrics to this song resonate across all generations and people of different backgrounds. That’s why it was beloved in the 80s, and why it’s made such a resurgence now.

Seeing Tracy finally get the response and respect she so longingly deserved as an artist for that beautiful piece of music after all these years on that stage then having it shoot to #1 on iTunes was absolutely GLORIOUS..You want true organically occuring DEI? (I hate this term) take a GOOD LOOK...THIS IS HOW IT IS DONE!! What a gratifying moment to watch unfold!

Wow! Over the PA system at the grocery store? I am so jealous. I had to take my sony walkman cassette player with me to work at the fast food joint where I worked and listened to it in my car on break while I smoked a dooby.

I didn’t like that song when it was originally popular, but now after so many years, I really find it very moving and important. My younger self couldn’t appreciate the story, but now I see it clearly as I watch my own kids grow up and go out into the world.

Not going to lie, I clicked on here wondering how @meghynkelly was going to find a way to spin this into something negative and (for the most part), both ladies did a fantastic job of seeing this for exactly what it was…a beautiful performance that UNITED us all. Whatever issues that arose prior was put to rest after the first note of this duet and to see people come together on anything is huge! THE WORLD NEEDS MORE OF THIS..and guess what…it turns out UNITY also generates clicks (as you can see😉)!! Now before ppl jump down my throat for saying what I’m about to say, I’m Canadian 🇨🇦 and have no dog in this race but your reputation precedes you around the globe…and this is the most admirable light I have EVER seen Meghyn Kelly..Please continue down this path for 2024 (..throwing shade is beneath you), but this humane sincere side looks so good on you. Respect Meghyn!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I read somewhere that she shocked the Grammy’s producers when she wanted to sing her song live and not use a track. Yes, this is what diversity and respect looks like. Both equally respected each other. The song was easy to learn the words. You didn’t have to stop the cassette after each verse to write the words down. People born in the 70s will know what I mean.
