democracynow.org - George H.W. Bush died in Houston on Friday night at the age of 94. Bush was elected the 41st president of the United States in 1988, becoming the first and only former CIA director to lead the country. He served as Ronald Reagan’s vice president from 1981 to 1989. Since Bush’s death, the media has honored the former president by focusing on his years of service and his call as president for a kinder, gentler America. But the headlines have largely glossed over and ignored other parts of Bush’s legacy. We look at the 1991 Gulf War, Bush’s pardoning of six Reagan officials involved in the Iran-Contra scandal and how a racist election ad helped him become president. We speak with Intercept columnist Mehdi Hasan. His latest piece is titled “The Ignored Legacy of George H.W. Bush: War Crimes, Racism, and Obstruction of Justice.”

Janet I was just out of high school and knew some of it, back when Barbra Walters was actually a more hard hitting journalist when she interviewed G HW Bush. I’ll never forget it, nor the investigations that the only 1 to pay the price was Oliver North. Not that he wasn’t guilty, he was. But they dumped everything on him regarding selling cocaine in order to purchase weapons for Nicaragua! And I didn’t pay as much attention to politics back then but knew enough to know that Bush Sr., was not some knight and shining armor but the complete opposite. His brutal policies, whether abroad or at home with his criminality of ignoring the AIDS epidemic and so on.... have not been forgotten! I am agnostic and if there is a hell, it’s where he belongs. PS - the way he defended Jr regarding invading Iraq was revolting, especially since it was after the fact!

The Bush family fortune mostly came from his Dad who worked at a company who funded the SS and helped spread Nazi Propaganda in the US. After the trials his boss was convicted on war crimes and the money went to the share holders including Prescot Bush. He also founded the USO shows so nobody wanted the Nazi connected to get out and this was swept under the rug for years.. check out the gardian article: How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

No. He dealt with global challenges very well. Read this carefully and with an open mind. The far-left is insane. This whole video is bullshit. How on Earth they claim Bush41 is racist for carrying on the policy of enforcing drug laws that Congress passed? By the same token they attack him for nominating a black man to the Supreme Court and standing by him? Also the 1990 military operations against Iraq was a success. It liberated Kuwait and the coalition's causalities were tiny. It's insane that a dictator initiate aggression and when a world-wide coalition responds, the far-left pacifists cry "no war!" and hold that against you. Tough shit, war is a necessity to push back against aggressors. Funny how they want us to accept and deal with the consequences like hosting refugees but not intervening when suitable to deal with the problem. The trolls on the web are a whole another story. It's a trend for anti-America foreigners to accuse our leaders of war crimes without evidence. What's worst, some Americans join them in this global phony grievance-peddling. Rest in peace, GEORGE H. W. BUSH.

I live in Houston ! I tried to get this information out for years. I was witness to books being written with this information in them. Only to see the authors be persecuted unto suicide. Then the book companies would pull the books off the shelf ! Anyone that would tell this stuff would have the Bush family after them. When I would try to inform personally, people in Houston, they would attack me and tell me what a great guy he was. So, rather than go to jail for what I knew ,I watched from the shadows. It was news when both he and Barbara died. People who were there, at Bush`s death bed side ,said that G.H.W. Bush said, " If they only knew what we had done, They would chase us down the street throwing rocks at us."

Helan M Back The President at the time was his son Bush, but Daddy Bush and his crew wrote the patriot act years before. Worth noting The VP was running most of things during 911. The VP was also the head of the non goverment organization the CFR, but this was kept secret until years after! It is interesting how the VP was running so much, this reminds me of when Daddy Bush became VP after he ran the CIA for years... The Oligarchs have a gang and it knows no party! Bill Clinton was trained by Daddy Bush for instance. And the Bush ties to ruling class goes back to his father that helped Hitler rise to power and created the USO shows, they kept that hush hush for years also! The USO shows kept ww2 troops ready to commit to a war, if they knew the founder was tied to Nazis it wouldn't work so well. The lesson we can learn from this is how much the rulling class is tied to all sides of war. They choose when we go kill each other and the rulers make big bucks! Easy to blame Hitler for ww2 as he was a horrible man, But I blame the oligarchs that not just allowed it all to happen but profited from it! And they continued to do so after, and still to this day. Bayer, IBM, Hugo, BMW, the list goes on

When George H.W. Bush was president he ordered the massacre of Iraqi soldiers after the ceasefire in 1991, and after he had promised them safe passage out of Kuwait. This article, which went viral after the war, exposed Bush as a mass murderer and war criminal, directly involved in the “Highway of Death.” He is a “hero” only to Big Oil and the Wall Street financial empire. This account was assembled by the author and presented by her at a tribunal examining U.S. war crimes. It is still cited around the world on anniversaries of this war. I want to give testimony on what are called the “highways of death.” These are the two Kuwaiti roadways, littered with remains of 2,000 mangled Iraqi military vehicles, and the charred and dismembered bodies of tens of thousands of Iraqi soldiers, who were withdrawing from Kuwait on February 26th and 27th 1991 in compliance with UN resolutions.www.globalresearch.ca/george-h-w-bushs-complicity-in-the-1991-highway-of-death-massacre/5661837

George Herbert Walker Bush: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY For those Americans who wish to eulogize George Bush Senior, I can only say some people choose to have political and historical amnesia. Thank God for KZbin and videos. As a public figure, we Americans as citizens of the world need to remember exactly what happened. Maybe it's the case of the famous Jack Nicholson line, "You can't handle the truth!". To this I say, search and you shall find. Public figures need to be held accountable. One doesn't have to dig very deeply to discover the 41st president's crimes against humanity. Those who wish to ignore objective history, do so at their own peril! Time will tell; Hero or villain. 41 did some good things in his life. Most of the things that he did in the name of all Americans, must be scrutinized in the light of day. People need to realize that he was the actual power behind Pres. Reagan for two terms; then he served as our president is alright another four years. Many of the social, political, and historical problems we have inherited today, can and should be laid at George H.W. Bush's doorstep. To blindly believe this revisionist version of history, "the great man", is a perversion of history. We need to have the courage to seek the truth.

The footage that starts at 2:47 is from the area I used to live in, Al Ameriya. The shelter was close to our house so we went there on foot in the morning. Some people who were at the scenery at the time said they could hear the horrible screams from inside as people were burnt alive. Whole families were wiped out. You can find detailed info about the massacre on Wikipedia, but I quote this part: "Not all who died died immediately; black, incinerated hands of some victims remain fused to the concrete ceiling of the shelter. According to visitors' reports, a woman who lost eight children in the bombing, moved into the shelter to help create the memorial, and serves as its primary guide." Yes, Saddam was a criminal, but what do you call the one responsible for this? Not a single Iraqi took part in the 9/11 attacks, with 15 of the hijackers being from Saudi Arabia! However, George H.W. Bush chooses to take it against Iraq and its people, who still suffer the consequences to date!

You 'love' Mehdi Hasan 'cos you're an ignoramus. He conveniently omitted the nearly 2 million Iranians that Iraq willingly killed when they were U.S puppets. And if we're to believe Mr.Hasan's own words that he's a 'Briton', then 'his' country murdered thousands of people in both Iraq wars, endlessly supported apartheid in S.A as well as being one of the Saudi's biggest arms suppliers-and this is only the tip of the British 20th/21st centuries crimes......why doesn't Mehdi show as much moral principle as he does moral outrage by giving up his British citizenship ?????

Apologies-I didn't realise that you were a conservative who resents free speech and the right to reply-my response to you was basically factually correct, whilst Mr.Hasan's was guilty of immense, deliberate omissions.

The thing about people bringing up some "good" things that assholes like Bush did to defend him is that no one is completely, ultimately "evil". Even 45 is going to do some "good" things, even if only accidently. What you have to do is weigh those "good" things against all the horrible, disgusting things that they do, and both H.W. and W. were horrible war criminals and should have been in prison since the day their first term ended. The problem is that these people are never held accountable for anything they do, no matter how much damage they do to the world in general and our country in particular. This is what fosters and encourages corruption and greed.

Interestingly, when Glaspie talked with Hussein, Iraq had troops on Kuwait's border clearly implying that they were about to invade Kuwait. This massing of troops on Kuwait's border had been reported on in US papers so Glaspie, as US Ambassador, had to know that Hussein was about to invade Kuwait. We gave the go-ahead for the invasion, and it's not unreasonable to think that we likely engineered the invasion to give Bush political points.
