It is only after hearing this ghazal for the second time that I have been able to decipher the in-depth philosophy of Khan sahib's rendition of this admirable and heart touching poetry of 'Sufi Ghulam Mustafa'.... This unique feat of rendering a 'Heer' in ghazal form, could be executed by one and only one, and that is the... Shahenshah of Ghazal..Mehdi Hassan saab.! So soulfully sung, it touched the inner core of my heart.!.. An unprecedented performance of Khan sahib, beyond words.!.. Priceless poetry and rendition, one that could be cherished for a long time to come.!.. Tere bazm mein aane se aye Saaqi..Chamke mai-kada, jaam-e-sharaab chamke..Zarra zarra nazar aaye maah paara... HEER sung by Legend Mehdi Hasan sahab ic extremely nice, sung in Raag BHAIRVI He was only best singer who used to sing ghazals in classical Ragas . Each ghazal he sang for one haur. This is his big credit.

SubhaanAllah. Brilliant upload Saurav saab. Very moving rendition, inspite of the fact that he was very tired and did not wish to continue. I was indeed blessed to have been able to see, hear and meet this amazing legend in a small live mehfil. The Almighty did indeed bless Ustaad Saab with the unique voice, strength, understanding of music and memory, emotion, spirituality, perseverance, heart and passion which resulted in these level of performances, that leave a permanent effect in the hearts and minds of those people that have been 'gifted' with the ability to listen. The original “Heer” by Waris Shah is most definitely not a ghazal. It is composed in what Urdu people call “nazm”, each hemistich rhyming with each other, as opposed to every verse. Punjabi poetry, usually, defies the dominant Perso/Urdu conventions of poetry (ghazal in particular), Shiv Kumar Batalvi should be the most prominent example of such. The poetic forms couldn’t be more different. Sufi Tabassum (the poet here) is one of the exceptions. He was equally adept in Punjabi and Urdu, no surprise there because he was from Lahore, that one city that defies, even today, the stark distinction between the established languages of Sufi Tabassum’s early life. @@sumansaurav71 There is a long linguistic/historical/political explanation involved here. I am not sure this particular medium is conducive for me to do that. Suffice to say, here is what I have been listening to for days. Each performance has a genealogy. Like legal arguments, there is precedence to performance. Whether you prefer the older or the more recent is a matter of personal preference/familiarity/politics. As an example, and there are endless, listen to Asad Amanat Ali Khan (also from Eastern Punjab, which eventually became part of Bollywood, e.g. any song by Surinder Kaur). “Umran langhiyaan pabhaan phaar Haali na vass ve kaaliya” Recently performed by Ali Sethi on KZbin Pakistan. Except, the second part, originally sung by Allah Ditta Looney Wala (from interior Punjab) is even more mesmerizing and lyrically fascinating. Have to go to make chicken karahi. Rabb Raakha hovay.
