Unfortunately this set shows Lego really needs a new design or a stiffer joint element for bigger mechs. We always say “just don’t have the ankle restricted” when we see big mechs that don’t have good possibility but here we are and it’s atrocious stability. That’s the price we pay. We need a new change I think.

What we need is an ankle rocket side to side, and not an unlimited range in the feet. Then add a thigh swivel or an above the knee swivel to add the motion needed to actually use the ankle rocket. That's how most Transformers figures work and they have amazing posability because of it. One can give these mechs an above the knee swivel by using the thigh joint as a knee joint. We had a friction added to ball joints but they discontinued it for some reason

Then you would have to have a bulky mech whitch would ruin this entire build

Yeah those pieces absolutely suck after like a week if you touch the joints they will fall completely off Lego REALLY needs to make a better way more stable piece

No, we dont need a new piece, we just need a reinvention of the basic leg. I think the double ratchet joints would work amazing, but also double joint, like the lightning dragon used, could work great aswell, but no need for a brand new piece just yet

I think you forgot to bring up a major feature with the set that's even shown on the box. The guns and the boosters on the MK vehicle can be detached and put onto the mech, giving it a more unique look. It's shown on the front of the box in this form. Otherwise, great review! It's my birthday tomorrow and I've asked for this, and this review made me certain that I want it.

Fun fact: the windshield piece actually originated from Nexo Knights, the piece itself was made in Jan 2017 but it was molded in that trans neon green colour in 2018 for the villains of that wave

The service bay reminds of the base from Exo Force. I almost want to buy the set for the service bay so I can use it with my ninjago mechs.

Great review, the opinion is almost the exact opposite of what duckbricks said in his review, and I have to agree more with him. Personally, I'm all for trying things out with these large mechs. I've got almost every one that's in this style and I like the little differences they all have. The sort of high-heels this one's got are quite unique, and personally I think it's fine if stability suffers a bit if it makes it unique.

Perhaps the stability could be helped if the lower legs were built up a bit more. The thighs on this mech are FAT but the shins/calves are quite skinny and kind of short comparatively

I'm definitely going to get this set. This might be the only set I get in this wave. I am 20 years old and only display sets. So it's Nothing to fight isn't really a big deal for me.

I used to be a fan of giant mechs, but at this point, I prefer the more smaller scale ones. This set is an example why.

On the back of the mech there is a part that looks like something should clip to it and idk where I've seen it but I feel the thrusters on mk flyer should attach to it

Mei deserves a giant mech. Hope that means in the show we’ll get to see mk and mei fight side by side with Mechs because that would be cool. Kinda wish it was a dragon mech like Lloyd had but perhaps that would have been to similar. She meant to be a actual long Chinese dragon so I’d love her to get the same treatment macaque got for his kaiju demon form.

Hey mind, I got this set January first and I do want to throw in my two cents. While the stability isn’t perfect, neither are many of the well loved large scale ninjago mechs that also include poseable knees. I own Arin and Lloyd’s mech, and l accidentally bumped my shelf the other day and the whole thing toppled. It was in a neutral standing pose. I believe if that that criticism is going to be held against the dragon mech, it should also be held to the same degree to other similar large scale LEGO mechs with knees. The exception to this would be Nya’s samurai X mech from crystalized. That thing is robust. I also have to disagree pretty largely on the side builds. I understand your point on the maintenance build, however I would personally take it with that build as it adds character and shelf presence, and it legitimately looks very nice behind the mech. Taking a step back and looking at this from a child’s perspective, it also adds a lot of play value, which is great for kids. On MK’s vehicle, I disagree heavily. It does not at all feel tacked on to me, as it quite literally enhances the main build, (with the canons and thrusters) adds play value and looks great in both its stripped down mode and powered up mode (not something you can say for many “power up” sets). That brings me to the value. Do I think it’s legitimate and fair for some to prefer to buy the mech by itself for 75-80 dollars? Yeah. Heck, I’d say 70 is fair. But for 100, I absolutely think the value is there and I do not at all see the side builds as tacked-on. That being said I very much agree about the back being plain and I would have leaned into that point even more, though great point about it simply being another color improving the look of the set. Edit: it’s also worth mentioning that the maintenance build can combine with other monkie kid buildings from the line. Big deal no, but I do appreciate it. Anyway, those are my thoughts, as someone who also owns the set I figured I’d share my perspective.

theres no way mechs are selling well enough to justify how many IPs are jumping on the mech wave this year. while its nice to see some new designs (since ninjago mechs peaked a decade ago) i dont think anyone can really appreciate these the way they would enjoy normal playsets.

You can put the thrusters and the cannons from the sidebuild onto the mech, you didn't show that in the video. :)

This is one of the most valid criticisms I’ve seen about this set. I think it’s odd LEGO is holding out on the villain minifigures until the summer wave.

I have a few minor complaints that are probably more like nickpicks, I guess. The back of the mech just looks...empty and blank...to me; Inreally wish the tail was bigger and longer (though thay might have exaccerbated the stability issues); the feet really needed to be bigger and with more draconic elements; and the top of the head, I feel, would have benefited looking more like a dragon head helmet. I still wanna get this kit, and some of my complaints can be fixed in a number of ways I guess. Implementing the Guardian Dragon set would definitely fix most, if not all, of those nitpick issues.
